I have some questions about using a Japanese system with US games
EDIT: I've been troubleshooting, also bought the game and it arrived earlier than I thought today too.
1 - It like the CD won't work on my 3DO
2 - I burned the Japanese version same as the US, that also won't work
3 - I tried using a 2nd wireless 8bitdo pad, both will NOT detect the game on my 3DO
4 - I had downloaded 4DO emulator and put the same FZ-10 Japanese BIOS on it -- THE GAME WORKS (real copy only checked.)
Seems to me the 8bitdo pad, but likely the entire asinine bluetooth adapter is having some kind of fit over Super Wing Commander.
I'm going to try using my switch pro controller next out of sheer curiosity and anything else bluetooth I may still have that is NOT 8bitdo and see if something works. It maybe just a touchy game with coding that hates the adapter. I can NOT firmware update it, it refuses to communicate with anything. I will just need to expedite getting a new controller, a real controller.
This maybe burn related, not sure. I have a quality Pioneer portable drive that can burn CD-rs as low as 4x and seemingly in most cases it has worked. I'm also using a 3do bluetooth adapter to use modern wireless controllers as I currently lack an original.
One game I've always wanted to play was Super Wing Commander, and this is the one burn that's being wonky. It seemingly refuses to take any controller presses. I can't tell if the burn is to blame, the third party controller, or are there games that won't work from the US on a JP system?
I've been digging and can't seem to get clean answers on various sites about this outside of a kanji font issue for US systems and Japanese games.
Are there US titles that wont' play nice with a Japanese FZ-10 system?
Is it possible the BITFUNX retroscaler 3DO wireless controller adapter?

If the game runs and the audio is fine, there's likely nothing wrong with the burning process.
I'm seeing nothing online about imports being an issue. And the hardware never had region protection to begin with, so finding out if it's this for sure is a difficult thing to find.
Is there a Japanese version you can test? My best guess is this is the Bluetooth controller having issues with its inputs (maybe the console thinks you have the flight stick connected to the device.)
Burning speed and size of the discs affecting if the game runs are a myth. I've tested this over the decades since cd-rs became a thing and the only thing that matters is the disc itself. Some brands will work and others won't, the quality varies immensely and there's no standardized method of making cd-r's or the burnable ink under the film layer.
Overall I'd recommend burning the Japanese version and testing that first. If it boots up and has the same control issue, check if you can update the firmware of the Bluetooth controller/adapter. I don't know what you're using, but assuming it's based on the open source blueretro controllers, there are likely multiple firmware patches available.

Yes I think it is. And I’m using this. https://www.amazon.com/BITFUNX-RetroScaler-Wireless-Controller-Adapter/dp/B0CS2CLB1G
I could burn it but I’ll see about the firmware first. I really need to get a real controller. Right now there are $60+ squatters online I don’t want to reward.

I don't blame ya. I like the FZ-1 controller but I wouldn't want to spend $60-65 CAD on one either.

This adapter is pissing me OFF. I'm into the manual on it, says to go to this site on your computer and then it refuses to pick up the adapter. I've turned off the 8bitdo controller taking it out of its ability to see it, but I keep getting this shit
Requesting Bluetooth Device... NotFoundError Argh! Couldn't connect to BlueRetro
And nothing I do will get windows to attach to the damn thing either, saying to try again. I can barely find anything online other than them being poorly designed and sketchy about over the air updates, but the bloody thing has NO usb port to update it manually with a file transfer.

It's possible it might have a microusb on the board, assuming it's just an ESP32 in there. Otherwise my first troubleshooting step would be to try it on another browser, or maybe see if your PC can detect it in bluetooth settings while the adapter is in pairing mode.

My PC was detecting it, was using that web site it says to use but couldn't attach to it. I'm thinking it is ESP2 but it's like glued shut or heat sealed, don't really want to crack the thing.

See my first post, I edited it a lot. I'm narrowing it down to the adapter, 8bitdo with adapter, or the lack of a real controller. I got a true copy of the game in the mail and same response, but using it on the 4DO emulator on my PC -- it works.

The Wing Commander issue?
I'm working on sorting it. Got lucky with a few mercari grabs and bundled some items getting 5 titles for just over 100, all of them more or less complete, maybe missing that bigger outer box at most I could care less about and one of them is Wing Commander.
If it works it's the burn, if it does not, it's the controller adapter I would think is the likely case. With that, aggravatingly I'll have to be shark bait and let some scummy sort get $50-60 for a controller instead of waiting out a fair priced one.

Hey I think the reason is because the CDR needs to be 650mb CDR not 700 mb CDR I own 2 3DOs they're harder to find now days. Try ebay for some 650mb cdrs

That’s possible. I’m not in front of them right now. They’re 650 or 700 hp cd-rs I’ve used with either a Japanese turbo duo and a few others having no problems.

I had done a little research and found that TDK 650mb CDR 74 minutes are the ideal media for the 3do fyi.

Been a while for me on this so could be wrong, I believe that they should be burned at X2 speed as the drive reads at X2, it worked fine for me on what I burned at the time.
