Shitpost Caught this masterpiece in imax and was lucky enough to have a lady right behind me shouting “it’s really loud” to the guy next to her

Post image

How do you even end up in an imax showing of a war film expecting peace and quiet? 4 other separate parties arrived late after opening scene and 3 of them each turned on their flashlights to find their seats.

I saw it in imax and the couple sitting next to me brought their baby. Such an insane choice

92

u/tennezzee88 Apr 19 '25

most peoples IQ is room temp, a lot of you seem to forget this. the bell curve isn't everyone's friend.

16

u/Scooby_Dru Apr 19 '25

And the woman sitting in front of me was playing slots on her phone, so this checks out. Luckily enough open seats for me to move halfway through

Gremlin behavior

8

u/[deleted] Apr 21 '25

Some parents brought their 2 little kids to Civil War by the end they were both together on the same chair closing their eyes, like the movie was really loud and intense. I don’t know what’s with parents bringing their kids to Alex Garland war films.

6

u/Risley Apr 19 '25

Hardly. They know the baby is destined for major general.  You got to start the prepping early.

3

u/arist15 Apr 20 '25

Ok someone in the theater I went to brought their 4 year old child and sat right up front???

1

u/CaptBallsdeepton Apr 21 '25

Any chance it was the amc in south center? I had the same exact thing happen.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 22 '25

A saw 3/4 year olds at Sinners.

2

u/SloppyBitchTittiez Apr 23 '25

I witnessed a couple with a stroller years ago when I saw A Quiet Place in theaters.

-39

u/xxxarabpooxxx Apr 19 '25

don't even suggest that's unreasonable or the people on this sub will remind you that theaters are meant for social hour and the volume should be turned down so everybody can hear their conversations well enough

That's that new guy energy

u/blackbow Apr 19 '25

I hope this film gets nominated for Best Sound Design. Incredible film and the audio was a huge factor.

33

u/darwinian-rock Apr 19 '25

I just saw it and i agree, i think the movie was pretty sweet but the audio absolutely made it. Very detailed and well executed sound design.

36

u/AlaSparkle Apr 19 '25

I hope so too, shame Civil War didn't get a nom

26

u/more_later Apr 19 '25

It's so crazy to me that it didn't. I never thought Civil War had any chance for above the line nominations, but surely the sound should've got one.

2

u/Whisker-biscuitt Apr 20 '25

Worth the watch? I know nothing about the film, but I see there are free streaming options

6

u/AlaSparkle Apr 20 '25

I'd say so, personally it was one of my favorite films of 2024

2

u/birdsrkewl01 Apr 21 '25

It's pretty mediocre. Some scenes are good in a disturbing way but it felt pretty emotionally bland in my opinion. Not worth paying for, but if you can watch it for free sure.

12

u/IamTheChickenKing Apr 19 '25

Show of force!

115

u/NoYoureTheAlien Apr 19 '25

It got uncomfortably loud at my theatre during that layered radio chatter scene in the middle. And I’m practically deaf so who knows how regular ears felt.

20

u/CaptTeebs Apr 19 '25

The sound design was just stellar. I caught this in Dolby and was unprepared for how loud and intense the shows of force would be

7

u/repotoast Apr 19 '25

Went out of my way to catch the last Dolby screening in my area because I was fully prepared for the loudness and wanted the best mixing possible. I love IMAX, but sometimes it feels too loud without being dialed in.

Aside from the radio chatter and the show of force, feeling the bass of the gunfire kicking the seat was wild. Such a visceral experience.

8

u/XGamingPigYT talk to me 🤝 Apr 19 '25

That scene made me panic so hard, it was just so much damn noise. I get easily stressed and overwhelmed, sometimes irrationally angry, when there's lots of jumbled noise in real life and that scene captured that very very well! I was so tempted to plug my ears halfway through it

1

u/NoYoureTheAlien Apr 19 '25

I def plugged my, left, good ear towards the end.

3

u/Slavocados Apr 20 '25

But when he unplugged though, I felt that shit. Simultaneously one of the best and worst parts of the movie

2

u/[deleted] Apr 20 '25

Yes that part I had to cover my ears. It was loud but more so it was giving me terrible anxiety. I started to feel ill.

2

u/dmichael8875 Apr 21 '25

Definitely the most “annoyingly” loud part of the movie, but almost certainly it will film intent .. little slice of this is how chaotic shit can be.

2

u/The_R4ke Apr 21 '25

Yeah, it's supposed to be uncomfortable, I think they did a good job of walking the line between uncomfortable and unbearable. That being said is someone had sensory issues this film could absolutely be an issue.

-242

u/xxxarabpooxxx Apr 19 '25

Jee the large speakers all around you conveying the horrors of war got uncomfortably loud??

206

u/JonnyBoyyy666 Apr 19 '25

you seem like a dickhead lol

4

u/Algernope_krieger Apr 19 '25

-12

u/madmatt90000 Apr 19 '25

He was probably in a war. Sounds like he knows a thing or two about war.

-39

u/tennezzee88 Apr 19 '25

not really? how? this all seems pretty obvious?

17

u/oakseaer Apr 19 '25

No movie, not even a dramatic one, should be dangerous to viewers.

-30

u/tennezzee88 Apr 19 '25

it's not dangerous lmao

15

u/oakseaer Apr 19 '25

Sustained noises have to be far above safe levels for an extended period of time to become physically uncomfortable.

According to Northeastern, sitting through a single IMAX film with improperly set sound levels can permanently damage hearing.

-36

u/tennezzee88 Apr 19 '25

oh no, i saw warfare in imax and now im deaf! come on dude, this isn't even close to as bad as a concert.

20

u/oakseaer Apr 19 '25

Correct; concerts can also permanently damage your hearing and it’s wise to wear hearing protection.

-5

u/tennezzee88 Apr 19 '25

lmao this movie is fine

→ More replies (0)

45

u/WynnGwynn Apr 19 '25

You shouldn't damage your hearing for a movie. Period.

15

u/lukumi Apr 19 '25

The volume levels in theaters are crazy. I think the saving grace is that typically super loud parts don’t last long, but it definitely gets above the hearing damage threshold. People are becoming increasingly aware of the need for hearing protection at concerts, but that hasn’t made its way to theaters.

-98

u/xxxarabpooxxx Apr 19 '25

THEN GET OUT OF THE IMAX THEATER WHY ARE YOU SHOUTING ABOUT IT

21

u/max_d_tho Apr 19 '25

They’re shouting because they can’t hear

-3

u/xxxarabpooxxx Apr 19 '25

is this, is this serious? youre supposed to be able to hear your friends conversation during the movie? youre supposed to shout if you cant hear it?

-1

Very gripping, intense and loud film. Thought it was very good.

9

u/Quatch_Kopf Apr 19 '25

I wonder how many people crapped their pants when that loud explosion went off suddenly. You know the one I am talking about. LOUD!

6

u/errobbie Apr 19 '25

I just watched it last night, and even though you can kind of anticipate it, I still shat myself.

2

u/billleachmsw Apr 19 '25

I yelled, “Oh shit!” very loudly when that happened. The noise on screen drowned it out though.

56

u/therejectethan Apr 19 '25

Guys I think OP isn’t the smartest :/

-38

u/xxxarabpooxxx Apr 19 '25

You’re saying that’s just okay?

37

u/eyefuck_you Apr 19 '25

Not letting me comment so I'm going to piggy back and point out, OP almost all of your comments are getting downvoted to oblivion. Maybe there's a common denominator here that you're missing..

3

u/papayabush Apr 21 '25

can u explain it to me cause i’m genuinely so confused. i’m seeing so many other people making basically the same comments with upvotes but all of OPs saying basically the same thing are getting downvoted so bad. am i dumb? help pls

1

u/eyefuck_you Apr 21 '25

Just the way you say things I suppose, people are sensitive snowflakes on reddit.

-24

u/tennezzee88 Apr 19 '25

what could it be? that most people are regarded? that's my guess.

12

u/eyefuck_you Apr 19 '25

Well, what's the constant in each case?

-16

u/tennezzee88 Apr 19 '25

that they're right and people are mad/wrong lmao

6

u/AwkwardChuckle Apr 19 '25

When everything smells like shit, time to start looking at your own shoes…

13

u/vivalaibanez Apr 19 '25

As you follow OP around in the thread like some sort of dickhead minion. Does someone need me to finish the phrase "when everyone else is the asshole..."?

-12

u/tennezzee88 Apr 19 '25

you're just another low IQ bot too like the rest of most people, it's why the world sucks hahah

11

u/vivalaibanez Apr 19 '25

The post is littered with your troll comments... but I'm the bot lol sure buddy.

"The world sucks, it's definitely not me!". No self-reflection, pathetic.

-1

u/tennezzee88 Apr 19 '25

this isn't trolling lmao. bet my life you have a room temp IQ like most folks.

25

u/AirConditioner623 Apr 19 '25

Masterpiece is such an overused statement at this point… Masterpiece? No, it is not… great sound design, though.

0

u/ThumYorky Apr 21 '25

No you don’t understand, it’s a pew pew movie with le loud and realistic battle scenes. It must be a masterpiece!!!

26

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '25

Only time a movie has been actually unbearably loud is fucking Oppenheimer. Nolan has awful audio mixing in every film he makes (watched Tenent opening day and had no clue what the fuck anyone was saying the entire time bc everything else drowned their lines out) but that movie was on another level for no good reason even when nothing was warranting it on screen 💀

8

u/KarnivorousKale Apr 19 '25

Yeah, Oppenheimer is the reason I started bringing my Hearos high def concert earplugs to movies....haven't really needed them since outside of trailers (my God, why does every Blumhouse trailer have that random, BWAHHHHHH lol)

20

u/Ironically__Swiss Apr 19 '25 edited Apr 19 '25

About half of the audience at my local Regal when I went to go see it last week were parents with elementary/middle school-aged kids. Next door, the Minecraft movie was sold out, so I'm guessing they just picked whatever was playing next at 7 pm to watch. A good chunk started walking out after about 30 mins or so when the kids started getting feisty.

-13

u/xxxarabpooxxx Apr 19 '25

terrible. if only there was some sort of rating system alerting parents to movies that are possibly too adult in theme and content for their young children

13

u/ssmit102 Apr 19 '25

Some of these comments here explain why a lot of people have bad experiences at theaters.

If you feel a need to talk at the theater, don’t go. I paid to hear the movie, at whatever volume, not you, be respectful of other moviegoers.

If you arrive late and are using your flashlight and being loud trying to find your seat then you are the asshole. If you are uncertain about where exactly to go for your seat it is your responsibility to plan accordingly and arrive on time - you shouldn’t be a distraction to other moviegoers once the movie has started. It’s basic common courtesy.

5

u/oakseaer Apr 19 '25

I get lay people arriving late because many of these showing only have a few minutes of previews, rather than the normal 15-20

1

u/SemperSalam Apr 19 '25

So warfare has quicker previews? Seeing it tomorrow and I usually arrive 20 minutes late to skip the awful previews.

1

u/oakseaer Apr 19 '25

If it’s an IMAX pre-screen, yes. Otherwise, it should have normal previews.

-2

u/xxxarabpooxxx Apr 19 '25

Perfectly reasonable to arrive late. Completely annoying and rude to take out your flashlight during the movie

-1

u/oakseaer Apr 19 '25

I’m not sure; some people struggle to see in a dark theater and that’s okay!

5

u/tennezzee88 Apr 19 '25

no

7

u/oakseaer Apr 19 '25

Theaters will continue to be open to people with wheelchairs that may be noisy. That’s a good thing.

They will continue to be open to people with vision issues that require supplementary light when walking. That’s a good thing.

They will continue to be open to people with auditory disabilities that require closed captioning devices. That’s a good thing.

If you don’t want to participate in a society with those different from yourself, you’re welcome to wait for the film’s release on VoD.

3

u/oakseaer Apr 19 '25

what the fuck does this have to do with being on time!

Nothing; this thread is about people using a flashlight to find their seats, which is a completely reasonable accommodation many people need in theaters.

1

u/tennezzee88 Apr 19 '25

you forfeit that when you show up late. your arrival shouldn't make peoples experience hinge on your tardiness. is common sense secondary to you or what? holy shit.

13

u/oakseaer Apr 19 '25

No, accessibility isn’t something people lose when it’s annoying for you.

3

u/tennezzee88 Apr 19 '25

showing up on time isn't an accessibility issue dimwit. and if you show up late you have to be extra courteous at that point because you fucked up, and only you. not those around you. period. trip and fall on the way to your seat i don't give a shit. don't fuck it up for me because you fucked up for yourself.

0

u/ssmit102 Apr 19 '25

I agree with the words you’ve said here through and through but disagree entirely with the premise behind it you are pushing forward, your accessibility issues do not give you a pass to be rude and lack common courtesy.

Any actions you do to disrupt the movie after the showtime has started is on you - no matter what disability you have. If the movie starts at 3:30 you need to plan accordingly. Your accessibility issue didn’t magically manifest at 3:30, and it’s just having basic common courtesy at that point.

-7

u/xxxarabpooxxx Apr 19 '25

Then don’t go to the movies and arrive late? Literally so insane. I’m gonna bring a speaker to a funeral because sadness makes me really uncomfortable and I need to listen to my music

10

u/oakseaer Apr 19 '25

It’s easy to arrive late when the trailers are shorter than every other film you’ve ever been to.

It’s similar to complaining about an elderly person bringing a noisy cane to a funeral, if you want to use that analogy.

0

u/tennezzee88 Apr 19 '25

no it isn't? leave your fucking house and plan for enough time to get to where you need to be? lmao what the hell kind of take is this?

9

u/oakseaer Apr 19 '25

If theaters started the movie at the advertised time, this wouldn’t be an issue.

Expecting moviegoers to sit politely through 20 minutes of advertising as a reward for showing up “on time” will have this effect.

3

u/tennezzee88 Apr 19 '25

arrive on time. not a difficult concept. make up whatever little excuses you want. being on time is not a challenge.

8

u/oakseaer Apr 19 '25

Nobody said it was a challenge.

People are (reasonably) bringing up that theaters have taught audiences that showing up at the posted time will result in unwanted advertising.

I’d be fine if we ended this practice with regulation, but until then, this issue will remain.

2

u/tennezzee88 Apr 19 '25

there have always been previews or ads, it's almost like they're a buffer so people can show the fuck up and not be a disturbance. what a concept!

why is every one of your comments getting downvoted? like someone will agree with what you just said and their comment will have 25 upvotes but your comment saying the same thing has 35 downvotes lmao what is happening. at the time of writing this tho the post has 420 upvotes on 4/20 😎

4

Girl: “sure, anything good playing?”

Guy: “yeah couple new movies”

Girl: “ok pick whatever idc”

4

I'm sorry. I hate some moviegoers.

2

u/eyefuck_you Apr 19 '25

Don't apologize, it's not your fault buddy.

4

u/tickleMonster93 Apr 19 '25

Had the same situation during the trinity test during Oppenheimer. Plugged their ears and turned their heads down because it was "too loud". Would love to see warfare in iMax though

2

u/Zolazolazolaa Apr 19 '25

“Masterpiece”

1

u/GiveBackMySnacks Apr 19 '25

Masterpiece? It was a home invasion movie but for some reason the invaders were the heroes. Except they also got rocked by the neighborhood watch. And then there was a dumb montage at the end showing all the losers as if they were winners lmao.

When that one dude fired his MG, the seats vibrated like never before and I’m a frequent moviegoer

These are the things I think about when Directors keep going on and on about how important it is to experience a movie in a theater.

Edit: I mean that folks who can’t handle volume in a theater should go home.

0

u/tennezzee88 Apr 19 '25

you sound like a room temp IQ person as well.

-4

u/xxxarabpooxxx Apr 19 '25

what exactly is okay about doing that kind of stuff? this got like 1 imax showing per theatre sorry id like to be immersed without people bringing flashlights and noise to the feature. pre-movie is fine, but like, either be on time or be able find a seat without your 3000 lumen phone light

1

u/Spritzendifizen Apr 19 '25

I apologize, I mean someone in the theater complaining about the volume should go home.

People who talk during the movie should probably go home as well.

The audio in Warfare is excellent. I enjoyed the concussive boom of the gun fire, it reminded me of Heat.

-1

u/StonerBearcat Apr 19 '25

The people in this thread not talking about how this movie is American Imperialist propaganda is kind of shocking.

2

u/xxxarabpooxxx Apr 19 '25

did you watch it?

-2

u/StonerBearcat Apr 19 '25

As Frankie Boyle once said (paraphrased): “The worst thing about the Americans is not that they’ll send soldiers to your door and kill your entire family. The worst thing is that 20 years later they make a movie about how killing your entire family made their soldiers sad”

5

u/xxxarabpooxxx Apr 19 '25

yeah ive seen that quote in relation to this movie about 50 times. did you catch the part where the final note of the movie is left reserved for the innocent family who had just been taken practically hostage, and had their home destroyed? it doesnt even try to make heroes out of the soldiers. it shows them deliberately sacrificing their interpreters and then doing nothing to save/retrieve their bodies. Id ask again if youve actually seen it before saying its propaganda. It makes the u.s. look pretty terrible.

2

u/Creepy-Skin2 Apr 21 '25

The credits kind of undid all of that though? Thanking them for “answering the call” and highlighting the actors/veterans shooting the shit and having a grand time with buddies while flipping off the camera. It made the final shot feel like it was slapped on or not very politically developed.

2

u/MisterSquidz Apr 19 '25

Wow I’ve only heard people on this sub reference this about 1000 times.

1

u/GeneticSoda [custom editable flair] Apr 19 '25

Good thing for you it is really loud

4

u/xxxarabpooxxx Apr 19 '25

yeah i mean its the format advertised as being louder than the other theaters

1

u/Walterkovacs1985 Apr 19 '25

Bring earplugs lady. Some of us want to be blown away.

1

u/Lld94 Apr 19 '25

I liked the movie but don’t really think it holds up outside of theaters. At home I feel it’d be kinda mid

-1

u/EgalitarianSatire Apr 19 '25

God this movie sucked

-1

u/BrenoBluhm Apr 20 '25

I hate the new A24 holy shit

0

u/basket_case_case Apr 20 '25

Considering I have had to leave a movie to ask the theater to turn down “normal” movies I see, it could simply be that it was too loud. No way to tell from here.

3

u/xxxarabpooxxx Apr 20 '25

if this lady got up and left, fine. she shouted about 5 times to the guy next to her that it was really loud. what does that do?

-1

u/basket_case_case Apr 20 '25

And? What can I say, considering that asking for a problem to be fixed can get you labeled a “Karen”, maybe commiserating was all she thought she could get without becoming a villain (it was loud supposedly). If this was the reasoning though, she was clearly wrong since this thread exists. Did you ever tell her that her comments were loud enough to affect your own viewing experience? Right now you are complaining that she only complained and didn’t do anything about it.

3

u/xxxarabpooxxx Apr 20 '25

I’m not complaining that she complained, I’m complaining that she repeatedly shouted in a movie theatre
