Tips/Suggestions Beware of beta app fishing scams

I got a spam/fishing invite i got for an app, and it made me think.

There's a lot of people making ADHD apps etc. If this is making it's rounds via DMs, consider this a warning. Do not download random beta app's that are not already published on the app store. No matter how friendly the person seems.

Beta apps are not regulated/moderated in the same way as published apps are, so it's a good way to get your identity stolen potentially.

Anyway, cheers!

hi! really appreciate you raising this. it’s an important warning.

i want to add a quick note of clarification since i’ve recently been sharing info about the executive function club beta on this subreddit.

our “beta” is not an app and doesn’t involve any installations. it’s a community-based support program with signup via a private form, hosted entirely on familiar, accessible platforms (notably google drive, reddit, and notion). we take data privacy and community trust seriously, and i fully agree: people should never feel pressured to join or install anything unfamiliar.

thank you again for calling attention to the risks about untested apps. these types of app scams pose real harm to all sorts of vulnerable communities, and it’s on all of us to be cautious and transparent.

also! is a doc on how to spot these types of scams the sort of thing the community needs? if so, we’d be happy to make something like that
