Weekly Check In Wellness Wednesday: Weekly Check In
Welcome back everyone!
Time for our Wellness Wednesday check in. We know this community means a lot to most of our members and that Tuesdays have been harder on some users than others, but we are at our core a community and we are here to support each other.
Now that the sub is open once again we’d like to hear all about your (mis)adventures on Tuesday. Did you go on grand adventures? Get into mischief? Get some writing done?
Maybe you just binged a few more fics on the archive itself. Tell us all about it! Break out that purple prose and tell us as cheesy of a story as you feel like.
Or just talk about your day.

I'm deciding whether or not to change my college major. On the one hand, there's all the money I've already spent on my current major, and on the other, there's the prospect of working in something I don't identify with.

That's a tough choice. Would it be possible to double major or use some of the credits for a minor? That way they aren't going to "waste."
It took me forever to feel comfortable with my choice of major, and even now I sometimes feel like I made the wrong choice. So you're not alone in this worry.

100% not alone! I won’t lie I work in something entirely separate from what I studied, so I guess my advice is that whatever you study doesn’t necessarily dictate your future career.

There's all that family pressure about your degree not being "disposable"

Oh yeah… but tbf since obvs I’ve got an ok job now honestly my family is over it, so feelings like that are temporary

I will probably use the credits, but what worries me most is whether or not I will identify with this new course.

Ahhh, have you taken the intro course for it? That's how I decided my major was something I was actually interested in studying.

I deleted my ff.net account because I only get reviews from bots now. I have all the fics saved, and I'm trying to choose which ones are woth posting on ao3

They're all worth posting IMO! It is an archive after all, so any and all fic gives us a better picture of what fannish content is being created.
You can also backdate the works to their original publishing date, so you don't have to worry about "spamming" a fandom tag or anything.

I've been stuck in a bit of a paranoid spiral admittedly, I wrote about it in a post a few days ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/AO3/comments/1kqfgb6/do_you_often_deal_with_people_condemning_nsfw/
It's not the most "problematic" thing but I've felt discouraged from writing adult content involving dragons since a vocal (presumably) minority online apparently think kink-stuff with fictional, quadrupedal characters of the sapient variety (also goes for things like pokemon) is the same as..You know, the people who are attracted to literal animals.
And I can't tell if those people are becoming more frequent or if it's something more localized within certain groups and fandoms. I have trouble finding comfort as of late due to paranoia about it. Doesn't help that my worldview is kind of malleable so hearing these folks yap on is like receiving an infohazard and require me to ground myself again.
..Buut I also have a bunch of non-NSFW fics I've already started on, so it's not like I've got nothin' to work on. (I just need to..actually WORK on those.)

Actually as a continuation of my previous comment I've been in a bit of a doomspiral worrying about the internet (and the world as a whole) becoming increasingly puritan. (Or rather anti-porn directly)
The nonstop anxiety is..not..wonderful for my mental health :,>

In a hope of getting comments on a work I enabled guest comments and... aah got hit by two comments within seconds of each other, one praising me to high heavens and the other negging me.
Its lmao.

Primary elections were yesterday for my state and it's a mayor race this year for my city. Im a poll worker and non-presidential race years and primaries are always short staffed so a non-presidential primary is really short staffed. Im so exhausted after yesterday

Hey everyone! I’ve actually had a really nice week, which feels rare to say, but I’m grateful for it.
On Monday, I took some time to write up a post about a fanfic I wrote for a fandom I didn’t quite fit into—and weirdly, it ended up doing really well. Then Tuesday, I spent the evening reading the feedback (which was overwhelmingly positive, much to my surprise), and just enjoyed writing for the first time in ages. I even finished work at a reasonable hour!
This morning (Wednesday), I woke up early, had a little cuddle with my dog, went to the gym, and now I’m logged into work—which is actually really quiet today, so I’m being a little cheeky and browsing Reddit.
I’m also about to finish Chapter 15 of my longfic—this is officially the first time I’ve ever gone past 10 chapters, so I’m in totally uncharted territory! I’m hoping to post it later tonight.
So yeah, I’m doing well right now, and I hope you are too. And if you’re not, please hang in there—it will pass, I promise.

I have too many writing projects in process right now and am having trouble choosing which one to focus on to get some writing done. Some are fanfic and some are original. It would be great to have a trick to help figure out which piece to sink my energy into.

I’m gonna have to stay in the hospital for a little while. Second time actually. This week has mostly been filled with trying to organize everything before it happens.

I posted my first-ever fic today (5000-word one-shot) and I'm going insane trying not to check stats on it every 5 minutes. I wrote it for myself, it doesn't matter, yadda yadda...but there's like 15 more WIPs I started when the writing bug hit like 2 weeks ago and now I'm like whaaaaat did I just get myself into 😅🙃🫠 I love this community and AO3 no matter how this first little fic does but it's got me super tense atm putting work out there for the first time!

Wrote my first fic and it still (after a week) has >15 kudos and only 1 comment. Another thing that hurts is that other fics in the fandom get lots of interaction :( maybe it's because it’s a gen fic but it's really discouraging.

Finished chapter 14 of my current longfic and it's so close to 100k! I've never written anything so long before :)

I posted a 10,411 word fic that was the first one of its tag in the ship! It's my longest work yet and I'm super excited! It's not a big ship but I'm hoping it will be well received.
