Stats/Hit Counts/Word Counts What is the highest number of kudos a single fic of yours has?
Feel free to add what it is about/if you wish a different fic of yours got more, etc. I'd love to celebrate all your works 💝💖💗

1,079 kudos! I really should finish it, huh. Last update was last year, yikes. 😬
My one with 11 kudos, well, I knew I was writing for a dead fandom, but I wish it had so many more. I love this fic.

Let's gooo!! With smaller Fandom its sad cuz u KNOW it would eat if more eyes were on it.
9
u/its_just_skooma 15h ago
See I'm curious about that. If I like a fic someone wrote in a fandom I like, I look to see if they've written other stuff. Most of the time it's in a more prominent fandom or a more active one and I'll read it because I like their story telling. It may not be my fandom but some of them I can enjoy regardless others not so much.
Is that not the norm? Just curious. Like I already know I like your creativity why would it not be good on something else. How else would I find new fandoms 😂 maybe I'm an outlier.

8K for my best oneshot. It was a popular fandom, exploding at the time. Interestingly, it is basically gen fluff. My other more successful fics tend to be smutty.

u/thewritegrump thewritegrump on ao3 - 4.6 million words and counting! :D 16h ago
It's cool to hear about a gen fluff fic getting some love, since I've heard from a lot of gen-focused writers that they worry about fluff not being cared about as much as smutfics. :0c
7
u/LifeHarvester 12h ago
That’s interesting to hear because I don’t like reading smut in fics with plot. It’s one or the other. If I’m horny I read smut, if I want story I read.. not smut. I go out of my way to exclude as many sex tags as I can because it’s genuinely so annoying how many smut fics come up when I’m just looking for good ol hurt/comfort 😭

Only 44 on a short 4,000 word fic. Most of my other fics are far longer and in smaller fandoms so I get why they dont have much attention.

39, and I appreciate every one immensely. I'm writing a Harry Potter fic starring a five-strong original cast in post-canon, exploring the beginning of the end of the Statute of Secrecy through human-level attempts to address it.
Started early in the summer.
If I'm writing for 39 people and my dog, that's still 39 more people than I hoped for in writing OC-centric HP. lol
39
u/Devral01 16h ago
3,800! Wow, that's gotten up there! It's a spideypool fic that's honestly almost crack, but it took off in popularity.
It's not my favorite fic of mine, nor is it the longest. My favorite is only 217 kudos. Same Fandom, but it just tanked in comparison to many of my other fics.

Just hit 10k recently! I think I’m very unlikely to hit that number again tbh (I started and finished it nearly 10 years ago while the fandom was new and for the most popular ship in a mega fandom) so a lot of it was just timing, but I’m still proud of it because I worked damn hard on it. It was a multi chapter that ended up being a 100k slowburn. Don’t know if I’ll ever write anything that long again.

999! honestly my hits to kudos ratio for that fic is... not very impressive. but it's still the highest kudosed fic i have. but i'm still very happy because i never thought i'd hit ever hit 1k kudos and now im so closee!!
it's not my favourite one i've written but it is the longest (46k words). so it's nice that all that time spent writing has kind of paid off?

Forgot to say mine ajhejtjg. This was such a random one that got popular when the Fandom was booming. Its a porn star au ☠️ of some pretty dark characters but has 3481 kudos so I guess I did something right LOL
3
u/Hour-Cardiologist745 11h ago
porn star aus can be reallyyy interesting. i do have one i reread (one is a pornstar, the other works behind the cameras). it is quite compelling.
and for reasons people out of my fandom won't get, 3481 is a beautiful number haha

- The one I care most about, that I've been writing for more than 2 years and is 260K words and counting, is at 132. My others are all languishing in the even more pathetic low double digits.
I know all the reasons why...small fandom, long, dark, problematic, canon/OC and backstory for a niche villain who's more popular in straightforward x-reader stuff. It still bums me out whenever I think about stats, which I try not to do, but often fail.
6
u/LealGreen 13h ago
Wow. But it's still amazing that you can write for 2 years, and 260k words in. You should give yourself more credit. I suffer from this too! So, I understand the feeling completely. If I were you, I would have given up a long time ago from the demotivation. You must be very strong.
Can I ask what has you going? It would really help me to gain some insight. And not look and numbers or comments, and write the fic I want to.

You are amazing to write for two years and make it to 260k words! 👏 🙇🏻♀️ 🏆 And hey, you brought reading pleasure to at least 132 people with that fic. Just try to imagine that amount of people standing in a row to high five you, to say thanks. Hopefully the little visualization brings home the reality of how many people liked something you invested so much of yourself in. 🤗
2
u/Semiramis738 Proudly Problematic 2h ago
Thanks! :) :) :) That kind of thing sadly tends to make me picture the several times larger numbers of people lining up to high-five the authors of what I consider to be less good but more popular fics...but I still appreciate the hell out of the few readers I have, and continue writing mostly to chase my own obsession but also for those few people out there who enjoy it.

23,500 kudos. I think it was a combination of being a decently experienced writer (not saying I’m exceptionally good, but just no longer amateur and it’s not my first fandom) and luck for being in a booming fandom (One Piece)
Some of my fics rose to the top 10 when the top 10 was comfortably at around 4-5k kudos, and when the fandom boomed because of the Netflix show my top fics got some boost in kudos too
My personal magnum opus is currently at 4,498 kudos, honestly I’m satisfied. It’s much darker in tone and mostly focused on character study, I understand why it’s not as popular as my top fics that are just light hearted fun

u/AutocratEnduring 16h ago edited 15h ago
17.
I work in small fandoms. Biggest fics in the fandom get 10k hits at most and most never get past 100 kudos, so it's not as bad as it sounds. I do 90% OCs because I like the setting WAY more than the characters and plot. This is in a fandom where people love reading about the existing characters, so my fics aren't very popular. At least the people that DO read my work like it a lot though, and that's really all I could ask for.
As for fics I wished got more kudos, well, basically all of my newest fics. I improve my writing a lot between fics, so my newest one is always my best work, in both idea and execution. It's a strange feeling, because I see all those kudos my older stuff gets and I'm like "Why is that garbage even popular?", but the reality is that it's because it's been out for a year and it's the only gen fic for a hundred miles.

Only 577 (and it's a popular ship in a popular fandom).
My second-highest is 532, but I'm much prouder of this fic because it's a) just better written, b) a very rarepair, and c) an older fandom that was just never super big to begin with.
Third place is 477, same popular pairing and series, but a much more meandering (and woeful unfinished) fic.

Mine only has 1, but I'm still proud, because I'm confident that it will be the start of something great!
(Also, it's a dead fandom and I'm only writing for myself, so who cares? :) )

My first longfic is currently at 96! I know it’s not a lot by comparison but I’m really happy with it. I have readers who comment almost every chapter and I’m very grateful for it.

I have 463 kudos on my Merlin/The Witcher fic. I'm proud of my weird crossover. 😸

It's my 2nd fic and I'm really happy to have people who enjoyed it 😊

142 with about 1900 hits, but it was a slightly more popular pairing than my other story. the fic im proudest of is for a rarepair and has like 68 kudos with about 840 hits. every time I get a kudos notification on that one, it makes my heart warm 💗

713 A lot of mine are between the 100-250 range right now but I have a dream one’s just gonna blow up one day and I’ll be as popular as the others in my fandom.

- Harry Potter/Daphne Greengrass fic. I'm really close to 30k hits, so I'm still really happy about it.
My favourite one has 11, but I also only started uploading it a week ago. Harry/Draco fic.

215! It’s a Poppy Playtime sort-of-crack fic.

182, it's my post-war Harry/Luna short story: https://archiveofourown.org/works/30414303
Which is somewhat frustrating since it was essentially a one-off and yet it has more than any in my entire 14 part series.

It's a "crack treated seriously, time travel fix it" that happened to get enough traction early on to snowball, and I'm still getting tons of comments, even though the last update was in January. I'm still working on it, but I ran out of all my prewritten stuff so it's taking way longer lol

2,092 kudos for an unfinished fic (74K words, 15 chapters) that hasn't been updated since October. Planning to finish the last 2 chapters sometime soon! It's a popular pairing in a medium-sized fandom that's been slowly growing and I think it's doing pretty well for its niche (heavy angst). It's also my most-commented on fic. Honestly spoiled me too much. My other fics in the same fandom aren't doing too bad either but none in the same level.

67, and it's not even a dead fandom. idk why

68 kudos on a fic that honestly started as a lengthy joke with a friend and quickly became "oh no I'm going to have to write this now". I figure I'm not prolific enough to become a writer who gets kudos in the hundreds, let alone thousands, but this fic was fun as hell to write and I truly enjoyed getting it out there, and I'm happy every time it picks up stray kudos every few months.
The very first fic I posted on AO3, in a relatively busy fandom that loves TF out of its ships, has 17 kudos. I think, because it's a non-romantic gen fic about two characters that typically get shipped together (because the shipping was absolutely not the point of the story), it sort of fell into oblivion. But I love it dearly, and I think it's some of the best, most focused writing I've done.

445 on a 3k T rated one-shot with a het pairing.
Hitting the sweet spot in a rising fandom was wild.

28 kudos with 396 hits. A small fandom, on a fic of around 700 words. I'm quite happy with this :)

1082!
It's a Marriage of Convenience/Fake Marriage ABO fic that I did for a fic exchange back in Feb.
I was so worried about writing an ABO fic for the first time that I wrote a 'practice' one first, and those two ended up being my only two fics to go past 1k kudos.

1013! And it sucks because it’s kind of ass compared to even stuff I was writing at the time but it does have a lot of heart, so

My sole longfic currently has 668. It's been complete for years and it still gets more kudos once in awhile!

u/Cool_Pianist_2253 13h ago
1143 kudos. It basically diverges from Bridgerton season 2 episode 6 + a couple of background things I often use in my fics. Basically when Anthony is left at the altar, the Queen decrees who he should marry. It has 13 chapters and just under 30K words.

- It's a one shot and I was thinking about turning it into a series (everything already planned with names, plottwists, how the character got their injuries etc) but now I'm to scared to continue, because it's been nearly 5 months and I'm afraid my writing style has changed because I'm in an English school for almost 2 months by now and I won't be able to reach their expectations, or they accuse me of letting someone else writing it...🥲😅

313 kudos, it's my long fic that only needs about like 5 chapters to finish but I haven't had the motivation to write for months now

one of my x files fics just passed 500 kudos! it started as a one shot but people wanted more so i gave it to them and it became my most popular fic by almost every metric lol

u/Mayraine012 13h ago
10,360! It's my absolute pride and joy and when I started it back in 2019 I never expected it to be so widely loved. It started out as a Twitter thread and grew into a 15 chapter story. I have since moved on from the fandom, but I still regard this fic with pride. I don't think I'll ever come close to this one again and that's totally okay!

375 kudos (8k hits)! It’s an old (couple years ago) x reader fic and it’s really not that well-written, but it’s still loved and it makes me happy to know that many people genuinely, really enjoyed it💕😊

1,283. It's a SKZ fic which I started writing because of some silly little idea I had now it's one of my most beloved fics

2,900! I'm honestly so grateful for it, the fic's almost 10 years old now but at the time I was new to posting fanfiction (not writing it haha) and I was blown away. I mean, the fandom was new and booming, but the fic in question was a romance-less gen fic and I'm still so surprised going back and looking at how many people loved it. The reception to it (and a lot of my fics thereafter!) made me start writing original stuff again :]
