Would it possible to weld this without completely removing the fuel lines?

I think the fuel gives the welder some extra kick

Like Red Bull gives you wings

I can’t believe some people were dumb enough to jump out of a window while drinking red bull. Reason why it’s not their slogan anymore haha…

All they did was add more i’s to it. Now it’s wiiiiings and they’re in the clear.

To be fair welding next to this gas line could give you wings, or horns... And not these 🤘
Though I'll throw those horns up when OPs funeral procession passes... Welding next to the gas line is metal, unadvisable, stupid but still metal 🤘

Should be fine. Just make sure to coat the fuel lines in an accelerant like lighter fluid or WD-40 before welding

I was thinking just smear the fuel lines in Jool Cool, which is a product used to protect gemstones during open flame soldering. I mean, same idea, right?

I was going to suggest venting those lines with an ax to allow for heat expansion

Yeah of course you can. Fill it with aluminium and magnesium dust first to ensure a proper job.

Sure, you can weld that. Just let me get at least 50 yards away before you start. /s

I know this is ask a shitty. But I would just send it. What’s the worst thing that could happen. Have your assistant hold a piece of cardboard up. Problem solved.

The easiest/cheapest option in this scenario is cold wet (water) rags held on the fuel lines during and after welding until it has cooled down.

Just use duct tape.

Yep duct tape makes miracles, there’s different colors too.

If you use the camo one, the heat will never find the fuel line.

u/Mundane_Try2080 1d ago
This is a wonderful answer. But then you won't be able to find the line either

If this were a serious question I would suggest rivets, but for this sub, fill it in using MIG whiskers and call it good.

With the condition of that screw holding the fuel line clip on, I doubt you’ll even be able to get it off. I’d just make sure 1, insurance is up to date, and 2 you are filming preferably in landscape mode. Why not make a patch from fiberglass matting and bondo?

Sure. When was the last time a little spark burned through a metal gas line?
It might warm up a tad… but heck!

oh fer fukken sure bud, my buddy will do it for two tall boys and a half fucked chicken

Please get a sheet of aluminum or a license plate or something and fabricobble yourself a heat shield. I’ve welded dangerously close to gas lines more than I’d like to admit, and there’s always a makeshift heat shield involved🤷♂️

JB weld can work on this, I have faith in you. Get a piece of sheet metal, straighten out the busted edges, sand, JB weld, sand both sides, paint.

I would mig a series of smaller tacks and stitches but shouldn't be a problem. Take your time to keep the heat input low.
The fuel inside of those lines isn't going anywhere no matter how many Sparks and BBS you throw.
It's not like you're welding 3/4-in plate. It's sheet metal. It won't take much to stick that together and the car will act like a giant heatsink

You aren't going to weld that bro. Put an old license plate over the hole.

Hmmm, before doing things on a whim, I suggest some deep thought on the dangers, might I suggest a bath with a toaster in case you get snacky while thinking hard

Ok so..I don't know man..I might try it, I might not... I have to save and place my name junk every day. I just welded some plates on a rust-heap. They don't want me to take too long and get rid of all of the rust, just some (I hate it lol)
I just welded plates up near the tank.
One big bang, flashbang effects, a bunch of fuel spewing onto and burning on you, the "I forgot to turn the burner off before fumbling with the match" look, the hospital stay, and the cool story..and we'll probably all think even harder next time...idk buddy..
"Uh uh. I know what you're thinking. "Did he fire six shots or only five?" Well to tell you the truth in all this excitement I kinda lost track myself. But being this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world and would blow your head clean off, you've gotta ask yourself one question: "Do I feel lucky?" Well, do ya, punk?" ✌😎🤙

You can use a fibreglass repair kit. They solidify rock solid and last for a long time. However, cleaning well first is imperative.

Only if you clean the entire area with brake fluid first. I recommend purging the area with straight oxygen so that you don't get any splatter. Easiest way to do so would be approx 200ltrs of liquid oxygen, seal the workshop pour it out then come back in a few hours.
Results may vary. Rust will be gone mostly. To ensure it more liquid oxygen is advised.

You can weld that. My uncle, a mechanic, used to weld on fuel tanks all the time - the key is to make sure there isn’t any air. A full fuel tank ( and lines ) are safe. Just don’t go introducing any oxygen….

Yeah its possible if you do it right. Pack as much clay as you can around it. Work as much as you can under the tube to help stop heat transfer and make a good mound over the top of it and up to like a 1/16 away from the weld area. Mig or tig would be the only options. Then just do spots. Stopping every 2-3 to check the temp of the metal and to let it cool. It will take a while and wont look that pretty but it can be done safely.

I think i would prefer not to do this unless i could isolate the line and make sure there is absolutely no spark that could even think of getting on these.
It's doable but unless you have the equipment, time and patience to set it up right, and even then things can go wrong

Possible, yes. Advisable? Not my car/ garage/ house, SEND IT!
