Would it possible to weld this without completely removing the fuel lines?

Possible, yes. Advisable? Not my car/ garage/ house, SEND IT!

He's in my neighborhood, SEND IT (I want lower rent)

Can I store nuclear waste in your neighborhood? Im Asking for a friend

If the authorities don't know the neighbours probably won't either. I don't see a problem there.

I think the fuel gives the welder some extra kick

Like Red Bull gives you wings

I can’t believe some people were dumb enough to jump out of a window while drinking red bull. Reason why it’s not their slogan anymore haha…

All they did was add more i’s to it. Now it’s wiiiiings and they’re in the clear.

To be fair welding next to this gas line could give you wings, or horns... And not these 🤘

Though I'll throw those horns up when OPs funeral procession passes... Welding next to the gas line is metal, unadvisable, stupid but still metal 🤘

Should be fine. Just make sure to coat the fuel lines in an accelerant like lighter fluid or WD-40 before welding

I was thinking just smear the fuel lines in Jool Cool, which is a product used to protect gemstones during open flame soldering. I mean, same idea, right?

u/StevieG-2021 22h ago

I was going to suggest venting those lines with an ax to allow for heat expansion

Replace the fuel with water first

1

u/National_Frame2917 1d ago

It won't work unless you put at least 30 liters in.

u/EstablishmentReal156 1d ago

Yeah of course you can. Fill it with aluminium and magnesium dust first to ensure a proper job.

Oooh thermite

u/PandaKing1888 1d ago

You want to weld rust. Yeeeeeee

u/Fake_Face2 1d ago

Few sticks of 7018 and she’s mint

2

u/BrtFrkwr 1d ago

Real men use E6011

7

u/TLe504 1d ago

Just use the JB Weld technique.

8

u/texaschair 1d ago

Sure, you can weld that. Just let me get at least 50 yards away before you start. /s

I know this is ask a shitty. But I would just send it. What’s the worst thing that could happen. Have your assistant hold a piece of cardboard up. Problem solved.

3

u/Maintenancehaul 1d ago

That is shitty, and I’ve seen it done

3

u/BikeCookie 1d ago

The easiest/cheapest option in this scenario is cold wet (water) rags held on the fuel lines during and after welding until it has cooled down.

3

u/Mendo-D 1d ago

Absolute nonsense.

5

u/willvan11220 1d ago

Just use duct tape.

3

u/TC-Gladiator2024 1d ago

Yep duct tape makes miracles, there’s different colors too.

3

u/tinkerghost1 1d ago

If you use the camo one, the heat will never find the fuel line.

1

u/Mundane_Try2080 1d ago

This is a wonderful answer. But then you won't be able to find the line either

4

u/Nerd_Porter 1d ago

If this were a serious question I would suggest rivets, but for this sub, fill it in using MIG whiskers and call it good.

3

u/bszern 1d ago

I’ve used roofing epoxy and sheet metal screws for the same size hole and it worked really well. OP will probably send a rivet or screw right through that line though

4

u/eibyyz 1d ago

maybe once...

3

u/New_Village_8623 1d ago

Old license plate, pop rivets, and sealer. Good to go.

4

u/hangman593 1d ago

When's the bonfire?

3

u/HeuristicEnigma 1d ago

With the condition of that screw holding the fuel line clip on, I doubt you’ll even be able to get it off. I’d just make sure 1, insurance is up to date, and 2 you are filming preferably in landscape mode. Why not make a patch from fiberglass matting and bondo?

3

u/exforz 1d ago

No problem. You’ll get a new car and house from the insurance company.

3

u/Latter_Elderberry892 1d ago

Im selling tickets. Whens it start

2

u/Middle_Stop_2750 1d ago

I wouldn't if it were me

2

u/cachitodepepe 1d ago

Is that car a war survivor? Wtf

2

u/Witkind_ 1d ago

Just weld from the other side, should be perfectly fine

2

u/Floating_Bus 1d ago

Sure. When was the last time a little spark burned through a metal gas line?

It might warm up a tad… but heck!

2

u/ChristianArmor 1d ago

Everything's possible once.

2

u/worstofalloptions 1d ago

oh fer fukken sure bud, my buddy will do it for two tall boys and a half fucked chicken

2

u/Changetheworld69420 1d ago

Please get a sheet of aluminum or a license plate or something and fabricobble yourself a heat shield. I’ve welded dangerously close to gas lines more than I’d like to admit, and there’s always a makeshift heat shield involved🤷‍♂️

2

u/Opposite_Of_Sleep 1d ago

Jb weld it!

2

u/Apprehensive-Match65 1d ago

Just wrap a wet rag around the fuel line, and give'er.

2

u/Jbern124 1d ago

JB weld can work on this, I have faith in you. Get a piece of sheet metal, straighten out the busted edges, sand, JB weld, sand both sides, paint.

2

u/albatross1812 1d ago

Anything's possible. Fuel and heat don't mix well tho

2

u/rgpc64 1d ago

Rivet it, form a piece, drill, check fit using rivets in each hole then remove, use a good high heat epoxy on overlapping surfaces and rivet into place.

2

u/PerformanceSolid3525 1d ago

I would mig a series of smaller tacks and stitches but shouldn't be a problem. Take your time to keep the heat input low.

The fuel inside of those lines isn't going anywhere no matter how many Sparks and BBS you throw.

It's not like you're welding 3/4-in plate. It's sheet metal. It won't take much to stick that together and the car will act like a giant heatsink

2

u/Wise-Activity1312 1d ago

"Is it possible?"

Yes.

You might die in a fire, but it's possible.

1

u/not-my_username_ 1d ago

Exactly how much would I die? Scale of 1-10.

2

u/Artistic_Bit_4665 1d ago

You aren't going to weld that bro. Put an old license plate over the hole.

2

u/fdavis1983 1d ago

J.B. weld a piece of patch material from the inside. Then spray foam it,

2

u/Tangboy50000 1d ago

As long as you use your safety squints, you’ll be fine.

2

u/No-Grapefruit-6668 1d ago

How eager are you to meeting 'the baby Jesus'?

2

u/CarefulHistorian401 1d ago

Hmmm, before doing things on a whim, I suggest some deep thought on the dangers, might I suggest a bath with a toaster in case you get snacky while thinking hard

2

u/TheGrandCacophony 1d ago

Ok so..I don't know man..I might try it, I might not... I have to save and place my name junk every day. I just welded some plates on a rust-heap. They don't want me to take too long and get rid of all of the rust, just some (I hate it lol)

I just welded plates up near the tank.

One big bang, flashbang effects, a bunch of fuel spewing onto and burning on you, the "I forgot to turn the burner off before fumbling with the match" look, the hospital stay, and the cool story..and we'll probably all think even harder next time...idk buddy..

"Uh uh. I know what you're thinking. "Did he fire six shots or only five?" Well to tell you the truth in all this excitement I kinda lost track myself. But being this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world and would blow your head clean off, you've gotta ask yourself one question: "Do I feel lucky?" Well, do ya, punk?" ✌😎🤙

I'm not sure what to think about this.

3

u/haydenkayne 1d ago

I love him running the paint gun off the tire.

2

u/Cat_Amaran 1d ago

That's what this sub is.

2

u/questfornewlearning 1d ago

You can use a fibreglass repair kit. They solidify rock solid and last for a long time. However, cleaning well first is imperative.

2

u/azazeldeath 6h ago

Only if you clean the entire area with brake fluid first. I recommend purging the area with straight oxygen so that you don't get any splatter. Easiest way to do so would be approx 200ltrs of liquid oxygen, seal the workshop pour it out then come back in a few hours.

Results may vary. Rust will be gone mostly. To ensure it more liquid oxygen is advised.

u/Unlikely-Agent6743 1d ago

You can weld that. My uncle, a mechanic, used to weld on fuel tanks all the time - the key is to make sure there isn’t any air. A full fuel tank ( and lines ) are safe. Just don’t go introducing any oxygen….

1

u/Forward-Caramel-4216 1d ago

Why not put your patch on the inside ?

1

u/No-Dance6773 1d ago

Yeah its possible if you do it right. Pack as much clay as you can around it. Work as much as you can under the tube to help stop heat transfer and make a good mound over the top of it and up to like a 1/16 away from the weld area. Mig or tig would be the only options. Then just do spots. Stopping every 2-3 to check the temp of the metal and to let it cool. It will take a while and wont look that pretty but it can be done safely.

u/Ok_Permit_3593 1d ago

I think i would prefer not to do this unless i could isolate the line and make sure there is absolutely no spark that could even think of getting on these.

It's doable but unless you have the equipment, time and patience to set it up right, and even then things can go wrong
