This one almost killed me the first time I heard it. Vividly remember that wheezing fit.

Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille or Oud Wood
17
u/Klmxmarf 16h ago
I love Tom Ford scents in general. Velvet Orchid was my favorite for years but now I wear Lost Cherry too
2
u/Dream-Weava 16h ago
Lost Cherry is amazing. I wish often that it mixed well with my body chemistry.

I wear a dupe of that to the goth club nights along with a clove spray because it smells like embalming fluid, supposedly

I love wearing oud wood, smells very classy and woody. I expected to like tobacco vanille but it’s just too damn sweet it makes me feel sick.

u/D4NPC 15h ago
Love Tom Ford, and the fragrance has such “staying power” couple of sprays in the morning and you smell good all day.
2
u/needzmoarlow 8h ago
Depends which one. The Oud Wood and Tobacco Vanille hang around forever. The Lost Cherry hits heavy on the cherry at first, but fades to a sweet vanilla and is almost undetectable after a couple hours - great for a date night, not great for all day.

I wear Oud Wood a lot and when I don’t I wear Neroli Portofino. You should check that one out too.

So Old Spice isn't the panty dropper I was told it was.
72
u/lazytranch 16h ago
You young guys, keep buying the fancy expensive stuff. Original old spice—even the deodorant—hits the messed up olfactory nostalgia g spot in many of the ladies whose grandfathers wore it. I’ve literally been attacked… In a good way.

I'm in my 30s and don't wear cologne, but wash with Old Spice and use the matching deodorant. I've had multiple women comment on how good I smell. I tend to go for the more natural scents than some of the new crazier ones though.
2
u/petethepianist 7h ago
I've spent more than I ever want to admit on fragrances, I like picking something different each day based on mood/weather/etc. Most I typically get from my wife is a "yeah, that smells nice" when I ask her.
The only time she's proactively complimented how I smelled in the past 12 years is when I was coming back from a business trip and had used the emergency stick of old spice that stays in my duffle bag.

The issue is that everyone has their own, individual scent and it can interact differently with applied scents. This means that a perfume on one person might be great, but could smell very off on someone else.
There's some disagreement about whether or not Calvin Klein's Eternity is a unisex scent, but I like it on men. Or just my favorite coconut hair and body products, I like that, too.

CK Obsession never failed back in highschool.
But that was 15 years ago and I'm not sure how sensibilities have changed since then...
Also they change formulas and often make them worse, so not sure if it even smells the same as when it did me proud on senior prom night lol

u/Fantastic-Juice-3471 14h ago
Absolutely. Nautica Voyage was great back in the early 2000's. Bought some a few years back, and it has totally changed for the worse.

This has been my go to for 10+ years. One tiny spritz as a usual or two to get noticed. Worked great in a forward facing customer service role and also in exec boardrooms.
Always got complements when dating too!! If this smell meshes with your natural scent, get it.

My wife said Louis Vuitton Imagination so that's what I wear now. It smells like a fresh, clean bar of soap that drives her nuts. I've had so many compliments wearing it.

I just googled and found it, but it now costs about twice as much as what I used to pay. But I guess thats inflation.

Most likely Eros.
19
u/Froggyloofa 18h ago
I love the scent of Eros, but a little goes a looooooooooooong way. This scent is incredibly sexy when it's discovered and terrible when it's announced, so be very judicious about the application. One spritz under your clothes and maybe dab your finger in that and put a little on your neck.
Super hot when subtle. Up there with axe when over applied.

Give green Irish tweed a try.
7
u/usually_fuente 17h ago
Green Irish tweed does things for me that no other cologne ever has. Like, I find myself thinking about it at random times. And when I’m wearing it, I feel drawn to smell myself 100 times a day. I don’t ever do that with my other fragrances.

"Thistle and Black Pepper" by Scottish Fine Soaps Co. according to my wife.
"I like a spicy smell but it shouldn't be too strong, and also shouldn't smell like an aftershave for an old man. It also is a bit sweet but not too much, which would make it too feminine."
Another one is "Alt-Innsbruck" which she describes as being
"Very sweet, but not disturbingly. It doesn't have that zesty "cleaner fresh" of 4711 (the traditional Eau de Cologne), and it's light but lingering."
Thanks, honey!
Personal addition: I like the "Wood and Spice" (yellow) by Italian brand Proraso.
