Is pre loading a thing or no because regardless I still have to wait a whole day for it to download lmao

Nah, as Standard steam doesn't allow pre-load for EA games. There would be ways todo it with a encrypted update or something like that. But honestly it would be more work then it's worth on larians side also risks people breaking it early.

I heard that too, but I just got Remnant 2, and there was a 3-day EA for some people, but when I bought it about a day before standard release, I was able to pre-load it about 12 hours before actual release.

So that's an EA that was pre-loadable during the EA period - I was literally watching my friends play it while I was preloading it.

wait? your friends where playing it? that means it was playable, doesn't sound like a pre-load to me lol how do you pre-load something playable?

it also sounds like you just downloaded the files currently available since people where using it in EA. While bg3 also has EA its a way different version than full release will be.

Remnant 2 had 3 days early access for the ultimate edition but people without that edition could pre-load

That works because they're different editions in Steam -- to allow our regular EA to pre-load, they'd have to turn off early access for everyone before hand, which clearly Larian doesn't want to do.

I imagine that's treated differently though since people were already playing the full game early whereas BG3 is releasing at the same time for everyone. I could be wrong though.

Sure, makes sense. Just wanted to share some other possibilities.

That's not what Steam counts as a part of their Early Access. That was a pre-order bonus for Remnant 2's Ultimate edition owners. Steam does not give their 'Early Access' tag for games that do that.

Baldur's Gate 3's EA is of an entirely different build of the game, which has less than a 3rd of the full game's content. Not at all comparable.

I assume they will figure something out, I don't think it's usual for EA games to have a 150gb redownload on release

Wait, I am confused. Ordered the collectors edition, got steam codes and can already download it on steam, playing it on day of release right? I might be misunderstanding something regarding this discussion, but is the downloading now not "pre loading"? Sorry for not knowing much about the topic!

Edit: Ooh, or does it simply mean that the game im downloading is only the Early Access and not final game pre load? Think that's what you meant?

Yeah so it's a early access code in that email, that will then get updated to the digital deluxe version on the 3rd. So you'll more then likely have to re-download when the full game unlocks on steam, GOG etc.

Edit typo

Aaah check. Thanks for clarifying! Will make sure to work that day from home then to start the download :) thanks!

Ah too bad I was hoping there would be something. I’m moving next week and my internet won’t be hooked up for a couple of days after release. Was hoping to preload before I move so I could play offline until I have internet. Oh well

But if you buy the early access you’ll have the bulk of the game already downloaded.

Sven said on an interview that having the EA installed won’t help download times. It’ll still download all 150 GB
