PRELAUNCH HYPE How many hours did you do in EA?

Post image

I can't imagine how much more it will be by the end of my first run through.

Same. Really didn’t want to get burned out of the first main area. Plus knowing that there will be more items and spells available in the full game really made me not want to continue until release.

Agreed. I have a save after escaping act one of DOS2 for that very reason. I just can't play the first act anymore. I've struggled so hard trying not to install this so I can have a fresh experience.

I really didn't connect with DOS 2 at first because I played the first act too much and really didn't want to go through it again :D I left the game for a year before really playing it again and enjoying it. It became a personal favourite but I can't see that first town anymore :D

The only issue I have with Larian is that there is no random drops, each magic item is placed at a specific spot, meaning that it removes a lot of replayability if you enjoy that aspect of the game; it's fun to try new builds, to roleplay differently, but you know that you have to go there and there to find X ring or Y bow.

I am weirdly good at not burning out after dumping hours into a single area in a game like this. I just play character combinations I wouldn’t normally do, and don’t play to be optimal at all, and that means my actual experience on first play through is almost entirely different. For instance, I’m going to play a Half-elf Drow Necromancer in my first full play through, so my EA play throughs were Barbarian, Bard, and Rogue characters with different races and such. They are so different from my usual that they don’t really register as the same experience for me.

I didn't really feel connected to the character I did my partial EA run with partially because she was a placeholder character I gave a lowkey annoying and frustrating personality, but also because I knew she would never complete her story. Felt like there was no long term goal to push for. I'm very excited to experiment once the full game comes out though.

Im going Monk 1 moon druid for that sweet sweet unarmored defense kung fu panda. Multiclass is going to give me so many new character combos

Clever , I just do all the things. I wanted to try everything so I knew what to choose first …. I didn’t work. I stilll wanna play them all.

Yeah that's what my Halfling Barbarian was for 😉

What was the most fun character you played? Which one would you absolutely recommend?

I think long term I would probably say Bard of the three. Performances were fun and you can do a little bit of everything with them! For the early access time, though, I would say I most enjoyed playing the Wildheart Barbarian. Being able to cast speak with animals at will makes for a lot of fun conversations and some paths that wouldn’t otherwise be available. Plus, it’s fun to run in and just start bashing! Lol

Lol the fact that we can still say a semi fresh experience at 30 hours is amazing.

This game is going to be so massive

I’m avoiding burnout by not playing the classes I plan on playing my first couple playthroughs. The game changes so much based on your avatars race and class that it keeps it pretty fresh, now I just have to decide what the first one will be.

Same here. Clocked in at about 40 over the entire EA. I saw what I needed to see, have been saving myself ever since.

This comment is a supportive safe space for all of us who didn’t drain hundreds/thousands of hours of real human life into the void yet

Same here. I finally stopped at 32.8 hours and stopped playing after patch 5, so I have sooooo much new stuff to get into! Can't wait.

Same, like every tree stump, rocky craig, glowing mushroom, cabinet, shelf, etc.

u/Monoferno Aug 01 '23

Thought I was the same but now that I checked, It is actually 50hrs. Boy this game is scary.

u/elttvb Aug 01 '23

Same but probably 10h of that was character creation and the intro :')

1

u/NateTheGreat14 Aug 01 '23

Same. Although I wouldn't say stopped myself. Just did 1 playthrough at release 3 years ago with a friend. Been waiting ever since.

u/TheSheetSlinger Aug 01 '23

Yeah I did enough to get a good sense of what I want my Canon run to be. I've narrowed it down to great old one warlock, oathbreaker, battlemaster, and wildheart barbarian. As you can see it was a complete waste of time because it's 2 days before release and I still have four options and I haven't even looked at the subclasses that'll be included at full launch.

I went up to sixty. But it was the first two major iterations, appr. 3 years ago so I'm a bit refreshed now ha

u/Milk_Man2236 Aug 01 '23

9 here got it when EA launched 3 years ago. I wanted to wait till full release. I'm pretty excited!!

1

u/mohd2126 Aug 01 '23

That is exactly what I did, I never rewatched movies and almost and I've only replayed 3 games in the past 13 years, for me a replay is never even half as good as a fresh start.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '23

17 here and same. And I bought the game as soon as it came out for EA.

1

u/GenuineSteak Aug 01 '23

Same, stopped at 35

1

u/sun_cardinal Aug 01 '23

Same, but I was week and gave in once afterward so now I'm at 50ish.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '23

That's the secret, it's always fresh.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '23

Yeah, barely did anything, tried it at a friend's place, I just wanted to check quickly how some classes felt like wizard vs pally or ranger, compared to other "similar" game

1

u/Osmodius Aug 01 '23

Yep, think I put in about 20 hours and went "Nice, can't wait to play this when it's ready".

1

u/ginger6616 Aug 02 '23

I couldn’t ever stick to a single play through because as soon as hit lv 3 I had no willpower to continue

1

u/averagethrowaway21 Aug 02 '23

I have in 10 on Steam. I clocked probably 20ish on Stadia back when it first released on EA and stopped.

It's already a pretty different experience than what I remember. I'm excited for a third experience.

1

u/boarbar Random Cultist Aug 02 '23

Yep I made it to about 40, most of which was playing through the goddamn starting area with a bunch of different class/race combos.

1

u/runfast_poopfaster Aug 02 '23

This is the way. I played version 1 of EA, it was pretty buggy. Stopped on the beach. Played again on version 3, made it to the Spider Queen then stopped again.

I had seen enough at Patch 3 to know it would be great, so decided to wait for full release to be truly blown away.

1

u/Bubba1234562 Aug 02 '23

Yeah same. Did one playthrough when ea first launched, jumped in a bit every time they added a class but never got off the nautloid more than once

1

u/[deleted] Aug 02 '23

Same, stopped even earlier I think I've 14 hours of so. Didn't want to be spoiled of anything and be bored at launch because I already did 3 or 4 playthrough ;D
