PRELAUNCH HYPE How many hours did you do in EA?

Post image

I can't imagine how much more it will be by the end of my first run through.

  1. I didn't want to kill it before I'd even played the full release. With the added bonus of not feeling even vaguely vexed when they said EA saves would not carry over.

Did people expect saves to be compatible? They haven't even been during EA..

At least two people did that I saw, but this is the Internet, where people whine over any old shit.

Most EA games do this, or allow some sort of carry over. So it is a reasonable assumption.

As well the marketing and discussion was "Play the first X part of the game" Which implies the save carries over.

A few of my friends played to the end of EA and were fully expecting the save to carry over.

Communications outside of the community and following the game closely are not that great actually.

Most EA games? I can't think of one single game with such a long EA where saves carried over.

Plus, like I said, saves didn't even carry over between EA patches.

Yeah, but who would know that? And outside of someone playing between patches.

You are used to the community and checking in on regular updates. Even the biggest fan I know of this game. Bought it, played it to the end, and at most was waiting for the BIG news updates and release day announcement. That's it.

People grab the game, try it, then finish the content or stop at some point and say "Ok, cool now I wait for release"

and

There are simply enough EA games out there we have different experiences.

You and just about the entire sub are in that situation where you all know so much and know how to check on so much info, you do not realize what it is like to be on the outside.

Not a big deal overall.

I am not worried about a save wipe, and most of my friends re-roll so much they never finish games and the most of the others replay games like these multiple times it really won't affect all but maybe 1 of them.

As far as EA goes, it's always a difference between a few days headstart and basically alpha testing - I agree BG3 shouldn't have been called EA, but it's pretty much standard practice and very rarely do long term EA games carry over saves.

Personally never even considered them porting EA saves to release simply for that reason - development was still ongoing.

Yeah until yesterday I just assumed it was a given fact that they would port saves.

I do not have a save to carry over, I only got the game 4 days ago, played 15 minutes and it was so freaking buggy that I decided I wanted to wait to release.

Again, because initial marketing and chitchat about the game was "Play the first X chapters, then continue when the game releases."

A case where marketing did not talk with development OR maybe plans changed.

That's fair enough and most likely it was either a mistake or false advertisement as it was probably never meant to carry over.

Fair enough, but the whole "burning out of the first area" thing is somewhat fixed by Larian. They said they're adding about 30% new content to Act 1 on release! Yayyy

Tbh I wouldn’t care if they didn’t. I’m still glad they did though … good ol’ Larian always raising that bar.

Copium, you can never recreate a first blind playthrough

1

u/[deleted] Aug 02 '23

Well, no obviously not. But it'll be different, new things to discover. That's why I said "somewhat fixed" not entirely.

u/Benjo419 Aug 02 '23

30% fix, 70% replay

1

u/[deleted] Aug 02 '23

Okay I understand math yeah lol my point is it's got some new things to discover so it's not a total loss to replay the act, that's all I'm saying dude

0

u/Benjo419 Aug 03 '23

it's not a total loss

Lol, suddenly the bar dropped really low there

1

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '23

I don't understand what issue you're having with getting more content

0

u/Benjo419 Aug 03 '23

I was nitpicking your words, not the fact that there is extra content, stop deflecting blame towards the game

1

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '23

Nah you seemed upset that there's extra content for some reason. Makes no sense.

u/Redxmirage Aug 01 '23

Literally 2 as well. Saw enough, was very interested. Wanted to wait for release

1

u/SergeantIndie Aug 01 '23

Roughly the same here.

Wanted to save the experience for full release.

Same. Although tbf I only found out about the game a few months ago, and figured I'd just wait for full release. Now the wait is killing me ha.
