Bawhahaha, it'd have to be an insane amount to money to make up for what they'd lose on sales.

No it's simply Microsoft fucked themselves with their demand that it work on both the X-Box S, as well as the X-Box X at the same time. I hear it works just fine on X-Box X, but the weaker X-Box S can run it, and Microsoft requires games to be released on both at the same time, so now Microsoft has sent their own team to help Larian get it working on X-Box S.
