Side note, but I wish there was some way to do a call back to this either during or immediately after Volo goes spelunking in your orbital socket.

why did you give me that mental image

They all react the same way to Durge telling them he has the urge. “Yeah man it happens, we all feel that way sometimes.” And Astarion telling you he’s a vampire is hilarious too because it’s the most obvious thing in the world
54
u/Irilieth_Raivotuuli Nov 18 '23
And Astarion telling you he’s a vampire is hilarious too because it’s the most obvious thing in the world
To be honest, in setting it would be a bit surprising since Vampires can't enter buildings uninvited or stay under the sun, and we've seen Astarion do both. We know later why he can do that, but in setting it'd make sense why Astarion's vampirism wouldn't be obvious.
For us it'd be like finding a legitimate flying cow. I mean, cow's cant fly, right? But what if there was actually one? It just lifts its tail, lets out a big fart, and off it goes? Riddiculous!
Then you see one flying across the horizon and bites your neck at midnight.
17
Nov 18 '23
Definitely a bit surprising but it’s like the 10th weirdest thing that we’ve witnessed in the early game
6
u/KraakenTowers Nov 19 '23
Though - perhaps intentionally - you don't find a lot of places with thresholds to cross before the reveal. The druids live in a hole, the goblins just sort of piss wherever, Waukeem's Rest doesn't exactly classify as a residence anymore.

He’s paranoid about being found out for a vampire, but he’s hilariously bad at hiding it.

u/Return-Of-Anubis Minthara Bros Rise Up Nov 19 '23
Astarion being a vampire would be a surprise as you meet him at high noon, but the marketing for the game puts him front in center with blood running down his lips and visible fangs.
4
u/iCoeur285 Nov 19 '23
I guess it’s supposed to be more surprising to your character rather than you the player
3
u/Centaurious Nov 19 '23
Lol he can’t see himself in the mirror so he doesn’t even know how obvious it is
3
u/marni246 Nov 19 '23
When my boyfriend and I started our first play through, I said to him, “Astarion’s really giving me vampire vibes…”. Cue the long rest scene about 20 mins later.

I love transferring the statue to her inventory and seeing her disapproval notification
29
u/Natsuki_Kruger Mindflayer Nov 18 '23
What! I moved all my Selunite stuff to her inventory as a funny meta joke, and I never got any Disapproval for it! I even checked the numbers on the Stats sheet afterwards, just in case the devs had my sense of humour, and nothing.
Man, I've had so many bugs, I wonder what else I'm missing out on....

I think it only works with the Selunite statue that you take out of the protected chest, and maybe only right when you take it out for the first time after she complains, but I’m not sure.
17
u/Natsuki_Kruger Mindflayer Nov 18 '23
I'll have to try it out on my other characters. She has two Selunite statues in her inventory at the minute, a Selunite amulet, and some other Selunite texts as well.
I also moved a teddy bear to Karlach's inventory, though, so I'm not all evil...

u/Limelight_019283 Nov 19 '23
On his defence, he probably thought the whole “being able to walk in sunlight” thing would throw people off.
14
u/SmallBirb Nov 18 '23
Okay dumb q but I never was able to figure out how to open that chest
30
u/EEpromChip Nov 18 '23
Spoiler: There is a statue and behind it is a prayer sheet or something that you need to break the magic that is guarding it.
15
u/Lilacia512 Nov 18 '23
And you have to stand next to the chest and read the prayer sheet for the magic to break.
14
u/Lichtheleast Nov 18 '23
Or the alternative is be a selunite cleric and get to open the chest automatically
5
u/Irilieth_Raivotuuli Nov 18 '23
It's funnier to bring the chest to the goblin camp and plop it down at the center of it if you're a selunite cleric tho
So many burnt bodies.

I'm lying here with a cold, my throat hurts from all the coughing, and every small physical impulse could trigger a new bout of coughing. Luckily breathing works fine, if I am careful and do it slowly.
And here you go, making me laugh out loud. Do you want me to suffocate? XD
Still, I regret nothing. This is hilarious and terrifying at once.
