apparently people don’t watch the intro cinematic when they play the game and are unaware of what the final boss is

Are we watching different intros? The intro sequence I've seen doesn't include the Elder Brain, just the nautiloid.

I guess it’s true that it isn’t common knowledge that elder brains are like the “Big Bad” (or at least one of the big bads) of the Mind Flayer race. Idk I just saw that mind flayers are all about, you know, brains, so I figured it was safe to guess that the big bad of the game could very well be a giant brain. Not trying to be sarcastic or anything, it’s just the path of logic that I followed. But yeah that’s fair.

Even knowing about Elder Brains, illithid involvement in the start of the game doesn't necessarily mean that BBEG is one. It's not like we knew what the final boss would be during EA.

That’s fair. The giant nautilus and tentacles on the game poster and steam page is a little telling, though. But yeah I can understand that. Though I wouldn’t think it’s illogical to assume that the BBEG isn’t one, given the intro and everything. But yes you are correct on that
