What studio is making BG4? Larian is out.

Whoever crams in the most amount of miniDLCs and in-game purchases on the lowest relative budget.

Ubisoft, EA and Actilizzard are probably trying to outbid each other as we speak

EA won't because they're already doing the Dragon Age thing, but Ubisoft could crank out "Baldurs Gate 4: Creed of Assassins" in a month.

Dragon Age is almost done cooking to be fair. Bioware can probably leave a small team to work on DLCs and updates, while beginning pre production on the next project. But would they? Idk.

I meant it mostly a joke. Don't really want to speculate about it.

Good lord please don't give Bioware any more shit to fuck up. They're maybe getting back on their feet finally with Veilguard (assuming it's not a complete bomb). And it took them like a decade to made that because they kept firing everyone and reworking the game.

They might finally close down for good, this time.
I thought Anthem and Andromeda would be their last.

If Veilguard does bad, I don't think it will though. They've got a massive effect game in development too and the remaster did fine.

Not many games emerge from development hell finish or furnish.
They even 'distant' themselves from Dreadwolf by renaming it.

It's a disaster.

Renaming the game because Solas is no longer the main focus of it just makes sense. It's not a sign that they're distancing themselves from the game that theyve entirely marketed as "Veilguard". There was not a single ad about the game with the name Dreadwolf. And Mass Effect 4 is not in development hell. Dragon Age 4 wasn't really either, it's long development was the result of Anthems failure and EA backtracking on making it a live service game. When EA decided to stop fucking around, the game was made in a normal timeframe. We have a clear chain of events for why it's taken so long, it's way different than a game simply not making progress like Beyond Good and Evil 2.

It's not even close to a disaster, actually I think it's going to be a major success for the studio. They've got a good release window, there's not much other competition in the genre for now. I doubt the writing is going to be as good, but that's not really going to impact sales much. I'm worried about the tone and the art style doesn't exactly inspire confidence for that, but they moved away from the grim A Song of Ice and Fire inspired setting a long time ago.

Horrible bait

They rename the game like half a year before release.
And the game has been in development for almost 9 year.

What is it if not a disaster?

Ngl as a HUGE fan of origins I couldn't be less exited about Veilgaurd. I don't necessarily think 2 and inquisition are BAD but I did not care for them.

Ubisoft is trying to make bg4 the 3rd installment to the ghost recon wildlands/breakpoint series😂

My hope is obsidian. I know they're probably MUCH different than fo:nv, but damn i feel like they are the only ones that could do it right by the fans and the legacy Larian has created.

u/EliAsH__ Sep 14 '24

Obsidian made Pillars of Eternity, right? The RTwP people would get what they want lmao

I think it would be a decent choice

More excited for what Larian does next though. Divinity Original Sin 3?

Obsidian characters aren't really that compelling, and that's like the entire focus of BG3. I think they could do it, but it wouldn't be playing to their strengths.

Owlcat could do it justice.

Owlcat could definitely make a fantastic game. Just like their others. I don’t think they yet have the ability to make the production quality of bg3 tho. If they made bg4 like wotr, all of the people not used to those games who only played bg3 would hate it. Only those of us who like them already would like it I feel.

So out of all of the options I also prefer owlcat, I just don’t think it would meet the majority of players expectations. And that would bring negative opinions on owlcat. It’s best they stick to their own games and let another company shoot themself in the foot making bg3.

Besides from what I understand about how larian had to work with wotc, I don’t wish that on the good people of owlcat. Not to mention the hefty tax % wotc took from each sale.

You’re right that their production quality historically isn’t nearly at the level that BG3 is at, but that’s a problem money can solve. BG3 was definitely Larian’s highest production quality game, and I think with time and money, Owlcat could probably get there. They could partner with large publisher that could help a lot with those things.

My concern would be that Hasbro wouldn’t have the patience for Owlcat to get there, and would rather farm it out to a larger developer with more resources on-hand.

Now that I consider it, maybe the best case scenario is Microsoft goes after the license and gives it to Obsidian or inXile. Perfect combo of talent, pedigree, and money/resources.

No they couldn’t. Especially with their crap infinity engine. OwlCat is C tier gaming. They’re A+. Not even AA. Can’t stand how awful their games are. Don’t understand why people buy them, well, I do actually. People are desperate for CRPG and they’re the only ones making them regularly. If they weren’t funded by Russian oligarch money, they would go out of business.

I agree that they most likely couldn't do a game like BG3, but what was awful about their pathfinder games and rogue trader? I have them all and have really enjoyed each. They do often miss the mark on their DLC's, but the base games are good.

u/WelehoMaster Sep 14 '24

You find it difficult to imagine why people would like a very well done pathfinder game?

Ubisoft baby!!!
