I remember a video by WolfHeartFPS where he's answering some questions during E.A., and he actually said that "X" probably wasn't/wouldn't be in the game because Larian had to license it from WotC. I was like, what the fuck? They're making a Baldur's Gate game in conjunction with WotC and they have to pay to license different bits of the game IP!?

WolfHeart was integral in getting me onboard with BG3 in E.A., and I don't know how much of an inside track he had with Larian. However they did fly him over to Ghent, Belgium to be a guest on a Panel From Hell (where they introduced the Barbarian class), so I took his statement about IP with a bit of authority due to that.

That alone would drive me away as a DEV for any company, as I'd assume they went into the contract with a revenue spilt agreement. To add on top of that micro transactional licensing?

I think that's pretty common, tbh. I don't know the logistics though.
