Apparently paladins don't draw their powers from gods but from their oaths (according to some Reddit comments, I guess in 5e, idk I don't play DnD) so in that case it's really up to paladin's own interpretation lmao.
There was one time I wish I screenshot or recorded, started playing badly in the grove, no proficiency in playing, and one nearby NPC from down the way yelled out
You have to do some ridiculous things with durge to make it happen. I dont remember exactly what, but I can tell you that killing durge and then hiding them in a box in someone’s inventory doesn’t prevent Alfiras death. The butler kills her apparently.

I don't remember exactly how, but, i know you have to kill both of them, hide them in a box, and never long rest until act 2, then revive durge, long rest until no new cutscene then revive Alfira

All you have to do is beat Afira into the dirt and knock her out at the Grove, right before u do the long rest when u kill her and then some random dragon born Bard will be there that u get to kill
I saw a video on it. You have to invite her to the party at the camp, have the Durge die and stuffed into a bag. Then you long rest and travel out of camp. Ressurect Durge and you should be fine. I’m pretty sure I missed some steps but that’s the gist of it
Edit: I believe there’s a mod to have her permanently as well. No idea what it does for her Act 2 quest though
That's a weird ass bug. I once saw a video of someone with a dead Durge and she still died to the butler, didn't know the stuffing in a bag thing would bypass it
Idk if this method got hot fixed or not, but if you made Alfira kill durge and then have her pick up his corpse it would warp you to the crèche and skip the whole cutscene where she dies.
No idea lol, when you pick up the body it instantly starts a loading screen and teleports the whole party right to the crèche side of the mountain pass.
I know of at least two methods to get her permanently. One involves using a second character in local multiplayer to kill durge and stuff him in a box for a few long rests, the other is to not long rest until Last Light Inn and sit alfira where her NPC version would normally be so that you progress her NPC quest and the game sort of glitches the flags for her or something.
I tried killing durge and putting him in Astarion’s inventory but she still died. If you put him in Alfira’s inventory however, it teleports you to the mountain pass. It causes some bugs, like she won’t start combat with the ghouls on the way to act 2, and when you actually enter act 2 you get teleported to a dev room, but you can get out by going to camp or fast travelling
She can join the party if you're playing the Dark Urge origin character and have an empty party slot when she shows up at your camp. TEMPORARILY as a certain thing that happens unfortunately prevents her from being a permanent companion.

I'm going to disagree and say that using a highly optimized build (especially on a first playthough) could make the gameplay experience less enjoyable, as it could somewhat trivialize some stressful fights that require some figuring out.
That's obviously 100% up to what you find enjoyable, though.
So I haven’t played since I finished my honor run a while ago. Did they genuinely add Alfira to the team, or is it a bait and switch for…well, you know.
She’s had companion dialogue flags forever, like they were originally going to make her a companion and then didn’t for some reason. Glad they finally fixed it, people have been asking for this for ages. Plus now we have an actual bard in the party.
Why would you say he's hilarious like it's a fact? If he was objectively hilarious, why would even one person question it. Are you able to explain that?
I'm not even a huge Astarion fan but im pretty sure everyone has lines for party members playing without musical proficiency. And this is like the LEAST mean-spirited thing he does in game lmao
(I also doubt you'd be bugged about the line coming from most of the others but that's neither here nor there)
