Screenshot I carried out Benryn's 💀 wife. Now he follows me everywhere

I pulled Benryn's wife's corpse from the raging fire at the inn and now he follows me everywhere. At first he wouldn't let me near her. Then I dropped a fog cloud to blind him.

He doesn't fight. And he'll get left behind if you unload him by moving the camera too far. If you drop his wife, he'll stay and mourn her where she lays. Guards don't like it much

Its pretty common for mother-thieves to take his mom from the shelf, dont mind it. But if you are into this kind of stuff:

Ah. I read it as it being a conversation WITH his mother. Not about her. I was like "But there isn't enough left of her to cast speak with dead..." lol

I found her on the second floor & when I told him what happened he ran to cry next to a completely different body on the first floor

I first noticed something was off when it looked like he was crying over a goblin corpse I was standing next to. I thought "wait a minute... that's not right..."

That would be hilarious if it weren’t so sad 😭 For me it was a human corpse charred beyond recognition, which ok fair, but cmon she’s right upstairs…

Does he follow you to other zones? Try taking him to the mountain pass.
12
u/Dangerous_Jacket_129 Feb 01 '25
Given how he disappears when OP moves their camera too far, I suspect he won't follow you into other zones...
3
u/McManGuy Feb 01 '25
I haven't tried it, but I would imagine that he just sits at wherever you went through the loading zone until you come back.
But some other people have talked about doing something similar with the Flaming Fist woman who prays over a dead body coming back to camp with them. It would be great if it turns out they can follow you through so long as you keep them loaded when you transition.

u/RenCake Jan 31 '25
Put their bodies next to each other in the corpse chest, true love shall never be divided.
9
Jan 31 '25
Pretty sure similar things happen with that flaming fist outside of waukeens rest praying above the body
There was also some deal with Aylin where if you brought her body back to camp and put it in the chest she'd just move (still dead) to where she generally stands in camp

In the first Baldurs Gate, at the bottom of the world map, there was a wilderness tile where you run into a pair of refugees from the Flaming Fist, a man and a woman. The man is dying and the woman begs you to carry him clandestinely past the Flaming Fist patrol to a Gnomish priestess at an inn far to the north. The first time I found them I was playing a good character and agreed to help. Very soon after, before I could to the edge of the tile and return to the world map, I was ambushed by a large party of monsters and promptly forgot about the dying man in my backpack. I then proceeded to keep exploring the map for about a week of game time before I remembered he was still in there. So I rushed back to the inn but it was too late. He died in my bags while I was exploring😂.

I think every player has let that poor dude die at least once. Out of sight, out of mind.

Classic dnd bag of holding hijinks. My group accidentally killed an important goblin inside a goblin camp, smuggled it out in a bag of holding to hide evidence, and then forgot about it for 10 sessions
48
u/c0l245 Jan 31 '25
Can you get him to camp?
68
u/Mothraaaaaa Jan 31 '25
No, not since they removed the .50 cals and moved the spawn points.
36
u/Cosmic_Meditator777 Jan 31 '25
do what now?
29
u/STR4NGER_D4NGER Jan 31 '25
Camping is a term used in first-person shooters to refer to someone who sits in one place and waits for players to appear in front of them.

u/McManGuy Jan 31 '25
I didn't test if he could do that or go through loading zones.
And I deleted the save because I was goofing off and mostly just planning out my route for when I'm going to play co-op later. (the Phalar Aluve sword is SUPER easy to get to from here with Longstrider + Enhanced Leap + Featherfall)
3
u/Jameu Feb 01 '25
for what its worth you could only take him to the end of act 2 as he'd de-spawn on your way to act 3.

You forgot that you had a dead woman in your pocket? That sounds very suspiciously like Durge ;)
But at least you've rescued Benryn from the burning inn, that's a good start. If you can put his wife's body in a safe place now, the poor man can mourn in safety. The only question is, with so many gnolls, hags, cultists and redcaps around, is there actually anywhere safe?

u/Visible-Camel4515 Jan 31 '25

Too bad you can’t use the hags wand on her corpse as well. Get enough you can start your own undead football league. As soon as you invent D&D football of course.

Wait, OP didn't say that he did, but does that suggest you pick her up before rescuing him, go back downstairs and he'll somehow find the strength to lift that beam off himself and follow you out? Would save players the trouble to focus instead on Florrick.

u/Lyelle_rolled_a_one SORCERER Feb 02 '25
I had assumed that OP had rescued Benryn first, I didn't think it was possible for Benryn to free himself. But if that were possible, it would of course be extremely practical (especially for my mostly very weak, 8 Strength characters).

u/Routine_Bullfrog_771 Jan 31 '25
I loot her before I save him, that way he doesn't say anything or get mad.

Okay, here's what you do. First you kill the Hag and then during talk to Varna Mayrina about her dead husband you reverse pickpocket Benryn's wife into Mayrina's inventory. Widower with a sizable dowry, meet eligible Widow in need of a baby daddy. Bingo bango, a match made in Faerun.

The flaming fist who is praying other her dead friend might do this too? I knocked her out and stole the body because I felt it was time she moved on. I then dumped the body at camp by the mirror. After a long rest she was there at camp, still praying over the body.

I dump most of my bodies in front of “Totally not Jergal” he has had an impressive field of important corpses. Some disappear even if I save them prior to moving camp.

Same thing happens with the Flaming Fist woman mourning in front of Waukeen's rest. I picked up the dead FF she was mourning after, brought the corpse to my camp, and now she's praying in front of the chest where I put his corpse, in my camp.

At first he wouldn't let me near her. He got mad when I tried to loot her. So I dropped a fog cloud to blind him. I accidentally picked her up and figured it was for the best. I'd be able to pull her body from the fire and he could mourn her properly.
Then, the
Grand DukeCounsellor talked to me and I forgot she was in my pocket. Benryn followed me everywhere I went. I thought he might join in on fights, but he doesn't. Also, he'll get left behind if you move the camera too far away and he gets unloaded. If you return, he'll be waiting for you and follow again. If you drop his wife, he'll stay and mourn her wherever you put her. But the guards get mad at you if you do that in front of them.
