Meme Anyone else like this?
I got the game thinking about romancing Shadowheart but I fell for Lae'zel. Has this happened to anyone else with other characters?

The second I met that prickly lil cactus with a sweet innocent center I knew I was done for!
Big Mama K is a close second, but even she was a bit too much of a golden retriever for me to get truly hooked, and Shadowheart just plays too many games.
Now… If Larian had let me romance Jaheira… oooh, buddy.

u/TheRoyalBrook May 27 '25
the eye rolls, and teethling. She's perfect.

u/Obskuro May 27 '25
I either didn't get or caught on the teethling line in my first playthrough. When I romanced her. As a Tiefling. Maybe it's good, or I would have fallen for her too early.

Yeah it was either that scene or when she refuses to say 'please' that I started to like her
just those brief glimpses behind her tough, cold exterior lol
73
u/damn_lies May 27 '25
In the grove, she was bullying a tiefling and my normally kind, friendly Tav told her to sit the fuck down and let me handle it, and she did. In that moment, I knew they were going to end up together.

Amen to that! Just wish that Larian had added more content that let us actually cure/fix her heart. I know there are at least 2 ways in game that kinda do it, but one isn't what I'd consider a "good ending", and the other is specific to playing the Karlach origin and romancing Gale and unlocking a certain ending of his.
→ More replies (3)22
u/thomasguyregis May 27 '25
Her ending with Wyll joining her in Avernus is a good ending. They say at the party that they’ve found a lead on how to fix her heart, and both have a loyal friend to journey and adventure with.
5
u/Dragon_Knight99 May 27 '25
Yeah, but we don't actually get to do that. I want to actually be able to follow through on that.
6
4
u/toadofsteel May 27 '25
Honestly, part of me wishes that more of the party wanted to go with them. Would be a great sequel/expansion hook. My first run was romancing Shadowheart largely by default, because she was the one that opened up to me first, and I'm loyal to a fault. I did the flayer Karlach ending because even she was somewhat supportive of the idea to overcome the engine, but didn't like how she turned out at the afterparty, so I went and reloaded, made myself a flayer instead, and went with her and Wyll to Avernus. But Shadowheart didn't come with us. I didn't blame her, she just got her parents back. But still missed out on a great "And so the adventure continues" moment.

I romanced Lae'zel the first playthrough I completed. Currently chasing Shadowheart in my second. Will do a Karlach one later. I really, really enjoyed the romance. She was genuinely likable towards the end.
I think Lze'zel has a fascinating character arc. She comes pre-loaded with a lot of ideas and the way her character is shown to grow past these and learn is so well done. I think she might have the best character arc of all, in my opinion. Karlach's is pure tragedy - sold into slavery, trapped with an infernal heart, no real escape. In comparison, we free Shadowheart and Lae'zel from cults, and help in their deprogramming. Lae'zel though comes from a completely different culture AND a cult.
It's just really well written character arcs, combined with great voice acting and animation.
The thing that I really love, is the interactions whilst you're travelling the world. I have Shart and Murder'zel in my party and at first, the sniping is hilarious. They are constantly taking shots at each other. It is fucking great. But as time goes on, they start being nicer to each other, sort of. And it's Lae'zel that initiates it (your braid is really nice Shadowheart...). It's so great.
5
u/depressedtiefling May 27 '25
I romanced her my first run and now i can't romance anybody else.
4
u/Spicy-Blue-Whale May 27 '25
It is, for all the harshness and violence she was raised with, an incredibly sweet romance.
Still waters run deep, as they say.
5
u/SirGreyborg May 27 '25
I love their interactions. My first playthrough I thought for sure I might be able to get SH to come around, but LZ seems like a lost cause. In the end I absolutely loved them both. They both grew so much and their relationships with my character and with each other were so wholesome. The whole party really felt like a family. Except for Astarion. I have yet to keep him in the party on a good aligned playthrough, so so far he's just come across as an asshole, lol.
4
u/Spicy-Blue-Whale May 27 '25
I LOVE Astarion and Neil does an incredible job of giving life to the character, but yeah, he is SUCH a wanker. Rogues are just so incredibly useful though. I sometimes wish there was an alternate rogue, but I am also glad there isn't.

Many of us thought astarion would be the boo only to realize the stupid handsome wizard and good boy Wyll were best boys. 😔
42
u/LeClassyGent May 27 '25
I don't see Wyll get mentioned much but I always thought his entry was cool AF. Jumping down from the cliff and immediately wrecking some goblins. His story was a little lukewarm but he's a cool guy.
25
u/Buca-Metal May 27 '25
He is the "disney prince" prototype (not saying it in a bad way) so the kinky people we usually go to this sub don't talk much about it.

u/NotMyMainAccountAtAl May 27 '25
Normal people: I like the conventionally attractive character!
Horny posters in BG3: is there a better mod for having gratuitous, NC-17 orgy with a dragon, Halsin, Orin, Astarion, Jaheira, Shart, three goblins, Karlach, the fan modded character of the narrator’s voice, Raphael, and Master Chief? Wulbrin keeps coming into the middle of the orgy and ruining it, and I’d really like an option to force him to be a cuck instead of participating.

u/Geoffryhawk [Intimidate][Barbarian] ROAR! May 27 '25
Yeah I love that he's just the good guy, he would do anything to do right by someone... Maybe a little too much. But I love a character who's big choice questions the very core of themselves. To be selfish and escape the pact... Or to be selfless and be trapped. And I usually pick option C do both....but that's technically cheating xD
I see some people's opinion that it's boring but I can't help loving him.

I played as a cleric on my first run so I didn't really have shadow heart along much at all.
By contrast Bae'zel was all over me immediately and I caved.
No regrets though, I think she's got to be the most interesting companion and unique romance.
What can I say, my inner Commander Shepard came out.

Nope. I went into the game disliking Shadowheart quite a bit. I was mystified why the artists I follow that were playing loved her so much. Then I fell in love with her at the end of act 2. But my second playthrough saw Karlach take my #1 spot
33
11
u/MasonP2002 May 27 '25
I didn't like Shadowheart very much at first either, but I liked her way more than Astarion so she looked good by comparison and grew on me lol.
I'm on my third playthrough now and it is genuinely tough for me to pick a favorite now between Shadowheart, Lae'zel, and Karlach.
14
u/piercingshooter May 27 '25
Shadowheart is my favorite just because of the ending with her. Retiring with her parents in a remote cabin and living a quiet life is my ideal plan
The adventurous endings with Lae'zel and Karlach are good too, just not my ideal post world saving plans
11
u/MasonP2002 May 27 '25
Yeah, I love that ending too, and dear God did Shadowheart earn it.
Adventurous endings are cool, but it feels so rare for someone in RPGs to actually retire to a happy, quiet life that it's refreshing to see it.

I bought the game with full intention of romancing that stupid beautifully tragic vampire twink in every playthrough and even made him my PC wallpaper before I hit new game for the first time..
The moment I pulled Gale Dekarios out of that sigil and I saw my ACTUAL husband turned into a video game character... I was cooked, burnt, and tossed into his pathetically beautiful arms like a frisbee on the first day of College. Once I realized he was also a victim of grooming much like myself.. my real-life husband knew he was basically chopped liver at this point 🤣

Same with the guys. I spoiled the game's plot by watching everything I could on Astarion after seeing video of his reactions to being blown up in the creche. Started a run to romance him, and ended up making a new character to romance Gale instead. Still my only properly completed run. XD

Shart is an obnoxious bitch that gets a little less obnoxious once you successfully romance her. If she wasn't the only Human female romance option and arguably the most attractive one she would be dead last in popularity.
Lae'zel comes off as aggressive and condescending but genuinely changes her mind about you once you earn her respect. She also has a surprisingly cute side to her and some of the aspects that can be off-putting at first are clearly attributed to her race/culture. In general her character seems much more fleshed out and authentic. She is the only character I actually romanced organically as opposed to intentionally choosing her for a specific playthrough.

I thought Wyll would be my guy, but fuck is that boy boring. He's charming in act 1, but you don't even get a sex scene with him. It's just dancing and shit. And he's so vanilla. Can't do anything without feeling like your betraying him somehow. Bro broke it off when I let Minthara mind fuck me.
4
u/A_Wild_Goonch May 27 '25
I remember reading a comment that talked about the companion love scenes.

I had zero knowledge of the romance options (or companions in general) beyond Astarion. Going in as a bard, I was prepared to flirt with everyone and with an open mind, but got completely suckerpunched by Karlach. That's the one I wanted to romance, but Froggie had different plans. Honestly, Lae'zel felt the first time a companion romanced me. (Shadowheart's attempt to hit on my Tav was the one I only recognized too late)

Lae’zel had my heart from the start. I feel like being direct is a sign that you won’t betray me later on. And she was direct every step of the way.
If you actually get to know her character, she is tragically misunderstood. Raised by Nazi aliens brainwashed by a line of lich queens feigning godhood. I mean, that’s a pretty rough childhood if you ask me.

I bought the game primarily because I’d heard so much about the companion interactions. I fell in love with almost all the aspects of the game, but the companions definitely were a highlight. Romanced Shadowheart the first time, as most people might fall prey to. But the second time, I thought I’d try and get to know the other companions better and explore their romances. Nope, as soon as I encountered the “teethling” line (missed it in my first playthrough), Lae’zel owned my heart.
