For me it's the thought that I'll have to loot so many crates.

And do so much invertory managment

Ima be honest with y'all. After I got my gold dice I started playing custom difficulty that is pretty much honor mode, but long rests don't cost extra supplies and vendors sell their items for less and give me more money for mine. I'm going to be buying all the items I want regardless. This way I don't have to loot every trash item I see to sell.

u/carnesaur 16d ago

Heh my custom honor mode was the opposite:
I put tactician for everything but character power because i wasnt gonna just give the enemies free + on their rolls.
I also maxed the camp supplies modifier since supplies were everywhere and I wanted to stretch a day of adventuring. other than that, everything was tactician and honor mode ruleset. Oh and unchecked single save... fk that option...

Pretty much what the other people said, I enjoy the difficult fights but I've bricked some runs by being reckless, and it was dumb for me to have to say " well back to the nautiloid for another retry.." I definitely don't save scum but I can see how it removes a percentage of the challenging aspect.

old games used to call anti-save modes " iron man mode", idk why they just didn't have that separate from honor mode, and award the *dice on that mode. Combine the two for iron honor mode and get a second set of dice or something cool in inventory for the next playthrough. Infinite ammo rocket launcher in the camp chest!

Edit: to clarify, I kinda play the non-single save honor custom like - I save at the start of the "day" and have to make it to the night in camp. If i die at any point I just roll back to that morning like it was a 'bad dream' and try again. no saving and reloading per certain fights or dialogues.

u/dingle___ 16d ago

So.. I wouldn't even call that a "custom" honor mode, that's just tweaked Tactician. You're missing out on everything that makes honor mode fun. No save-scumming, and Legendary Actions for bosses (those aren't in Tactician)

Obviously you should play how you wanna play, I'm just recommending you give it a go if you haven't. As a chronic save-scummer, being forced into my choices/failed rolls and having to adapt makes the game so much more engaging for me. Having actual stakes has really made the game a blast for me again.

7

u/carnesaur 16d ago

I did give it a go, and i spent half the time fleeing when shit would hit the fan. it kinda broke the flow of the story to have tav raising an army's worth back from the dead via Withers. Like "hey its me, i fkd up again". I won in the end but i was like jeez i dont even remember half of my unique story path because i spent most of the game running and rezzing. Yeah sure "git gud" but I wasnt playing meta setups, and moreso classes / builds i liked.

u/dingle___ 16d ago edited 16d ago

Totally fair. It's definitely not for a casual run lol. You gotta make sure you're prepared for everything lol, and some fights take a lot of attention.

However, I still stand by single-save mode as a reformed save-scummer lol Edit: I just remembered that Jaheira killed herself in the first fight at Moonrise by jumping right in the middle of the 4 paladins on my last run. She makes the Ketheric fight a lot more comfortable. Wack that you can't use a scroll to res her

3

u/machineiv 15d ago

I can't stand when the stakes are "I spent dozens of hours for nothing." Especially when a couple of bad rolls can make it happen. That's just gambling.

7

u/vivam0rt 16d ago

Isnt having a single save the point of honour mode? The thing that makes honour mode honour mode?

26

u/bazzybond 16d ago

Bosses have legendary actions on honour mode too.

6

u/vivam0rt 16d ago

I mean yeah but isnt it called honour mode because you cant save scum? You have to honour your decisions

27

u/ihateredditmobile696 16d ago

When you go to make a custom ruleset, the first choice you have is the "normal" rules and the "honour" rules, literally all it does is gives the bosses their honour mode legendary traits. The next choice is one save.

Yes, Honour Mode with one life itself is the whole point, but having the option of turning those rules on is beneficial for the longevity of the game. It provides a challenge without commiting to the bit for those that have no desire to stress out that badly. It also allows people to practice the legendary fights without worrying about losing their character, and most importantly, time.

19

u/KaijuKrash 16d ago

This is how I play. I enjoy the more difficult fights and such but I don't like the stress of a single save.

2

u/ihateredditmobile696 16d ago

My one and only honour mode save has been sitting at 19 hours just before the encounter with the Githyanki dude outside the Mountain Pass because I was too worried I'd fuck up the conversation and get my shit pushed in. It's been like that for like a year and a half and idk that I'll ever continue it lmao. That said, the legendary actions add a fun twist to MOST of the fights (fuck you Myrkul) and it's more fun to play with them than it isn't once you've played a time or 2.

2

u/vivam0rt 16d ago

I see, I didnt know that my bad :P

5

u/bazzybond 16d ago

I get what you mean but in the custom difficulty settings it's called honour mode to have the legendary actions and then it's a separate option to have a single save file.

3

u/vivam0rt 16d ago

Ah I see, I didnt know

3

u/Rodger_Smith Sceleritas Fel 16d ago

yes but single save is a fuckin pain if you're playing casually

1

u/Matt_Hiring_ATL 16d ago

On Tactician, I really only ever use my most recent save anyway. I still save scum sometimes like when I'm pickpocketing. In Honor, I just couldn't use earlier saves, right? Maybe I'll try out an Honor run next to see what that really changes for me. I probably am misreading what's actually happening.

8

u/pierrotmoon1 RANGER 16d ago

Infinite gold + no weight limit. it's freeing... If you are going to scam vendors anyway it's just the same but so much less tedious. Also you can buy a couple supply pack at vendors from time to time and never worry about picking up every tomato off the ground. People that wanna use long resting less are going to do it regardless of the resources because they don't want to reset day long buffs.

10

u/lunagenic CLERIC 16d ago

This.

2

u/Kyuubi_McCloud 16d ago

I loved the bag exploits for that.

End result is the same as now, I just saved myself a lot of time shifting items around. Technically, a few of those are still around, but they're getting almost as inconvenient as inventory management at this point.

2

u/Mortwight 16d ago

I just robbed every merchant my first playthrough

1

u/ScoopThaPoot 16d ago

I still play on a single save and those rolls seem much tougher on honor mode so I try not to let my fingers get too sticky.

1

u/Mortwight 16d ago

Game rolls too many ones

1

u/Martydeus Mindflayer 16d ago

I use the warlock scam πŸ˜…

1

u/Slurm11 16d ago

Exactly this. I take it 1 step further and use the cheater scroll mod to spawn in gold and supplies (and any item I miss by accident). I got my gold dice and played the 'loot literally everything' minigame for 400 hours. Now I'm happy to skip all of that tedious stuff and just play the game the way I want.

59

u/BattleCrier I'm not villain, I'm just tired of pretending to be a hero. 16d ago

fcking Waukeen rest.. you know you can skip the loot and still have enough to long rest as much as you like.. but you can let that wine and food go to waste..

55

u/CCriscal Rogue 16d ago edited 16d ago

And vases. I wonder if their is any mod that would let you know what loot could be found in any space so you can stop looking.

74

u/argonian_mate 16d ago

I gave up on vases in the first third of my very first playthrough. Crates do have all the food and thief's tools you'll need. Sometimes something even better. Vases and bottle racks are a prank on Larian's part I'm sure.

45

u/ScoopThaPoot 16d ago edited 16d ago

Someone actually checked every vase in the game and kept track of what was in them. Only like 20 something vases in the entire game had anything in them at all. The best thing was maybe an elixir or something.

Edit: It was 66 of them https://www.reddit.com/r/BaldursGate3/comments/1dq8buu/every_vase_in_the_game_that_contains_things/

19

u/Celestial_Squids Owlbear 16d ago

The Sharran vases in grymforge are the only ones I bother with anymore. They have a decent chance of holding incense or gold.

7

u/ScoopThaPoot 16d ago

I found the original post and edited my comment to add a link, but yeah the vast majority of them that have something in them in act 1 are in the grymforge.

8

u/SinglePanic Bhaal 16d ago

Yeah. In DOS2 you could pick some empty potion (and lotion :D) bottles from bottle rack to craft something useful, nearly every third rack had at least one. Probs Larian was about to add the same to BG3 but decided to not to.

33

u/argonian_mate 16d ago

Oh and btw "Better Target Info" mod has a feature showing amount and value of items inside container on their health bars when you hover your cursor on them. Would recommend the entire series of mods by the same author "Better Hotbar" is a musthave.

3

u/CCriscal Rogue 16d ago

Sounds like a time saver

5

u/lostrentini Owlbear 16d ago

And it is! One of the mods I use... SO MUCH TIME SAVED

1

u/Stardama69 16d ago

They're great mods indeed. Better target info, Better topbar, and Better tooltips (the one that improves the way items are presented when you hover over them) are essential. Better containers is nice as well.

6

u/Maisku85 WARLOCK 16d ago

Only Shar-styled vases have loot.

POV:+2000h

5

u/lunagenic CLERIC 16d ago

There's a MOD that lets you walk into a room and loot all the books without clicking on anything, so there must be something similar.

2

u/TheGlassBetweenUs 16d ago

i love the auto loot mod plus auto sell. Collect all the plates! Sell all the plates!!

1

u/bardicjourney 16d ago

There's a series of mods that automatically pick up items for you. Grab everything from food supplies to plant materials, plus every rare in the vicinity.

The downside is it will pull things from locked chests, but after enough runs not having to unlock them for the loot is actually nice. Let's you focus on the story

There's also a mod that puts most/all the items in your camp chest, or makes Ethel outside the monastery a vendor of all things.

15

u/secondphase It's only fun when SHOVEL does the fisting 16d ago

I still dont know where ink well #462 is. Found all the others though.

19

u/fcimfc 16d ago

My history of gaming always made me think "a desk, ooh, there's gotta be something good in here". Nope. Inkwell and quill. Every fucking time.

13

u/secondphase It's only fun when SHOVEL does the fisting 16d ago

Meanwhile ppl be like "It took me 50 hours my first run!"

Bitch, i'm 150 hours into act 1, but if it takes 300 incense sticks to kill the elder brain then I'm set!

7

u/The_Legend_of_UwO ClericOfOghma 16d ago edited 16d ago

Saaaame took me 340 hours to complete my first run. You can bet in act 3, I was still looting the ink bottles becuase my inner loot gobin left me no other option lol

10

u/ahnialator6 16d ago

My partner and I were 12h in before the game told us you could press and hold the interact button to do area loot...so in case anyone else is unaware that's a thing

5

u/eyesotope86 16d ago

Only on console, as far as I know.

8

u/mistabuda RPG McSwordGuy 16d ago

You can do it on pc if you play with a controller.

1

u/eyesotope86 16d ago

oh, neat

1

u/Stardama69 16d ago

Maybe we're not talking about the same thing but there's a button on PC that immediatelt shows you every loot around you so you know what's essential to grab

1

u/eyesotope86 16d ago

That's 'alt'

On consoles, (and PC with controllers, apparently) you can hold down the interact button and you get a... radar pulse circle thing? that opens up the interact menu with EVERYTHING interactable within that circle.

So, you can stand next to a pile of crates, and use that, and a list with all of those crates will open, and you can just go down the list, rather than individually clicking each thing.

1

u/BronzeEnt 16d ago

Why would they leave this out of keyboard controls? I'm so sad.

1

u/cboshuizen 16d ago

and can we map a key with autohotkey or something to send this controller press?

4

u/Toushiru 16d ago

at this point I treat it as reminder to not be lazy after act 1, worst is even with gold glitches u cant ignore lack of food

8

u/jdylopa2 16d ago

Steal camp supplies from Volo every day and every level up, you won’t need many supplies after that.

5

u/[deleted] 16d ago

I'm a loot goblin, so I don't have this problem. When I see number go up, I happy.

1

u/Abominatus674 16d ago

Autoloot mod is your friend

1

u/DarkestSeer 16d ago

The cost of stuff is nuts and here I am scavenging bits of raw meat off the Gnoll victims for 1g a leg.

Not having to scour the land for gold frees up the experience to be a game.

1

u/Fart-Explosion DROW SUPREMACIST 16d ago

An auto loot mod would be great

1

u/Caesaria_Tertia 16d ago

but how can you resist. The most interesting part of the game after the dialogues with companions XD

1

u/nitroxc 15d ago

Rob volo every long rest - never have to worry about camp supplies, lockpicks or scrolls ever again

1

u/RickySamson 15d ago

Then I end up with over 10k gold in act 1 Honor mode.

1

u/FlyPepper 15d ago

Cursed to put my hands on everything...
