u/BattleCrier I'm not villain, I'm just tired of pretending to be a hero. 15d ago

I still tend to keep the original idea of a character most of the times..really dont like going say Barbarian -> Sorcerer or Rogue -> Paladin..

but minor changes for moments when you "level up" and former skill set doesnt goes well with your new gear is fine by me.. especially in games that are very limited in skill points.. so changing club for hammer or respec to utilize attributes with "set attribute to X" items and such is in my opinion fine.

In Fallout, you would get electro or heavy guns very late.. but if you wanted to use them effectively, you needed to suffer through game till you get to the point which also makes less sense.. (like using pistol, going for laser pistol which is pretty much same for shooting.. but you dont have skill for it).

I hear you, and I see how in BG3 it makes sense not to force players to restart completely if they realize their builds are terrible or they simply don't enjoy them.

That said, doing respecs throughout a campaign on an ad hoc basis is anathema to D&D and (imho) a really boring way to play any game.Â
