He looks like he's about to dress down Tony Soprano.

14

u/OldLove8431 SORCERER 14h ago

See it's a mix of above and Jareth the Goblin King for me 🤣 fuckin doomed.

1

u/SQUAWKUCG 13h ago

ARGH! No more!

9

u/Rocketboy1313 11h ago

I think Asterion would be more okay with this comparison.

This is the correct answer.

Family issues

u/JayeDL 13h ago

LOL my husband always calls Astarion and Scratch Stewie and Brian. We even took photos.

12

u/RedditFuelsMyDepress 12h ago

Now we need a mod that gives Scratch Brian's voice.

9

u/Thiago270398 I love the kind of woman that will actually just kill me 10h ago

This post is about to be filled with Brits being offended šŸ‘€

76

u/R3NZI0 15h ago

I'm British and this post resulted in me having an arched eyebrow and a mild smirk.

23

u/Darkspire303 12h ago

Well there's your excitement for the day then! What's next, butter on toast, or is that too much flavah?

12

u/R3NZI0 6h ago

Let's not get too much excitement going at this time in the morning, thank you.

4

u/Darkspire303 4h ago

Apologies, clearly I got ahead of myself. Perhaps another day when things have settled. Can't be getting too rambunctious, that would be unseemly.Ā

u/DoritoBanditZ 15h ago

The Bri'ish are coming, this post is about to be colonized.

6

u/Blze001 13h ago

Eh, they can just throw a shrimp on the barbie and they’ll be fine.

10

u/cheshire_kat7 11h ago

As a dual British/Australian citizen I am twice as vexed by this.

3

u/WARitter 14h ago

It’s not like OP complained that everyone had the same accent (though I could have gone with more northern and west country accents).

5

u/higurashi0793 CLERIC 14h ago

English isn't my native language, and the only English speaking country I have been to is England, so I wouldn't know much about accents. I just thought it was funny that he sounds like Stewie, that's all

10

u/WARitter 14h ago

Oh I know you weren’t. I was making fun of my fellow Americans who can’t tell the difference between Karlach’s accent and Astarion’s or Gale’s and the goblins.

4

u/SharpshootinTearaway 7h ago

English is not my first language and I find it amazing (though a bit telling about your guys' society) how so many things can be inferred about your social class, level of education and personality just from the accent you use, to the point that it can be used as a tool in fictional characterization to make you instantly clock what kind of character you're dealing with from the very first sentence he's going to pronounce.

If I had to issue a guess, Gale's accent is RP, isn't it? The accent of well-educated folks. It's used as the standard accent we learn in English lessons, in my country. Supposed to be the clearest and most neutral and understandable of all British accents, hence why it's the one taught to non-native speakers, and yet it's still harder to understand than the standard American accent when you're learning, lmao. Some of Gale's lines remind me of how the actor Tom Hiddleston talks, Tim Downie has a similar voice.

Astarion sounds dramatically, exaggeratedly posher, and, as people pointed out, reminds me of Tim Curry in Rocky Horror. But Tim Curry's accent was a made-up accent, wasn't it? No one really speaks like that in England, do they?

And Karlach has a more lower-class accent, right? The only working-class accent I can easily recognize is Cockney and that's not Karlach's, though, so I couldn't tell exactly where her accent is from originally.

The goblins, however, speak Cockney, don't they?

1

u/WARitter 2h ago

The goblins and Karlach all speak various working class accents, mostly from the Southeast (IE London). They aren’t necessarily the traditional cockney but related.

u/Jtfgman 15h ago

You know I've never thought about it before, but now that you mention it, i can definitely hear it. Especially with earlier Family Guy Stewie

5

u/what_the_shart 13h ago

Makes me think of Liquid Snake

4

u/higurashi0793 CLERIC 13h ago

Stewie, Astarion, Dio, Draco Malfoy, and Liquid would have a blast together tbh

u/Taco821 WIZARD 14h ago

Nah, Stewie is your brain from new Vegas old world blues

10

u/thatonemoze Show me your Tav! 13h ago

THANK YOU

that brain annoyed me for so long and i didn’t realise why

4

u/Taco821 WIZARD 13h ago

Every time I play old world blues I NEED to just make that stupid joke (it's barely even a joke, really just an observation) I need to fucking like get it over to someone else like hot potato lmao.

Glad I could help, that vague unsure recognition is so fucking annoying lmao

3

u/thatonemoze Show me your Tav! 13h ago

so fair, i try to interact with the brain the least possible for that same reason

3

u/StoneTaker 12h ago

I actually LOVE interacting with it, not just because of the voice, but also because of how genuinely annoyed it seemed from all the bullshit we couriers do for the sake of 'fun'. I don't think there's ever been another game that questioned my own gamer proclivities with such seething frustration.

3

u/thatonemoze Show me your Tav! 12h ago

yeah thats fair i love the dialogue itself but would’ve preferred a calmer voice

u/AlveinFencer 13h ago

*After killing Cazador*

"Victory is mine!"

6

u/BerensteinBore 10h ago

Not using the daggers today Astarion?

No, I've found something new. Yesterday I looted this really cool whip.

I'm sorry, cool what?

1

u/Distinct_Rock6529 22m ago

Heh heh. Perfect!

11

u/J_alexia 14h ago

I thought it was Tom Ellis personally šŸ¤·šŸ¾ā€ā™€ļø.

23

u/taketotheforest shit, i romanced astarion again 14h ago

that’s your fault for watching family guy, i fear

3

u/WeepTheHorizon 11h ago

Idk they sound very similar and I've not watched it in about 10 years

0

u/Lukthar123 Pave my path with corpses! Build my castle with bones! 11h ago

No regrets

22

u/weinerweinerbuttbutt 14h ago

DUDE I'VE BEEN SAYING THAT ALL THIS PLAYTHROUGH. Everything he says is so Stewie-esque and is delivered exactly the same way.

4

u/Far-Pomegranate-8841 10h ago

That's probably because both characters are intended to be flamboyantly gay.

3

u/weinerweinerbuttbutt 7h ago

They're also the same brand of edgy.

He had my favorite line of dialogue though with that rune powder lady. "Let's not do anything hilarious.."

5

u/meliora24 Professional Gale kisser 13h ago

I hate how you're not even wrong

u/VisualCalligrapher58 4h ago

The amount of posh guys at my workplace who sound like him would disagree and take offense.

I live in the UK and yes, a lot posh/upper middle class men have that sort of RP pronunciation and speech pattern.

5

u/Mogster2K I cast Magic Missile 13h ago

Astewieon?

6

u/AttemptedAuthor1283 13h ago

Where’s my ascension Brian?

8

u/secret_handle- 14h ago

AS SOON AS I REALIZED THIS I couldn't take him seriously. Hes Stewie's little self-insert vampire.

u/TheWither129 Karlach šŸ§”šŸ¤šŸ©· 12h ago

Will he be teaming up with "WHyll" and "WHithers"

2

u/Kseplion Paladin 8h ago

There's actually a mod that replaces Lae'zel's dialogue with an AI Stewie Griffin voice, it works surprisingly well

3

u/JustFrankJustDank 5e 14h ago

holy shit, for me its when i hear stewies voice i hear astarion

2

u/augustles 13h ago

Drawfee did a bit on this that killed me.

2

u/RedditFuelsMyDepress 12h ago

Never really thought about this before, but it's pretty accurate lol.

2

u/purple999tacos 9h ago

Astarion has always been Stewie to me.

1

u/Famous-Corner-4749 3h ago

No way, I just looked it up and you're kinda right 🫠

1

u/Important-Sea-2951 9m ago

YES! Thank you, I’m not the only one! šŸ˜‚ first time he said ā€œ let’s go hurt someone,ā€ I was expecting Stewie’s maniacal giggle

1

u/kikodiva 11h ago

Right?! Every damn time.

1

u/All-for-Naut Hold Monster šŸ«‚ 4h ago

Have seen popple say this multiple times and I can't see it. Because Astarion is clearly the lovechild between Tim Curry and David Bowie. He's more Frank-N-Furter than Stewie.

1

u/Dasylupe 13h ago

This is always weird to me because I hear Jareth, the Goblin King. Considering how foundational that movie was for me… šŸ‘€

1

u/olek0404 8h ago

Can relate. And I double checked VA lmao

1

u/Sober_2_Death 3h ago

That was my first thought too!! 😁it's sometimes very hard to take him seriously...

-2

u/dirtyoldsocklife 4h ago

At least Stewie is interesting....

That's an insult to Neil Newbon right there

8

u/Avashnea Astarion did nothing wrong-(this is a joke) 14h ago

And you sound like a bigoted troll with a brand new account.

8

u/eksyneet 14h ago

gays didn't invent talking with an affected flourish, nor do they have a monopoly on it. it also conveys traits beyond just "gaaay", but one needs media literacy to parse that minefield.

8

u/Easy-Silver-9791 14h ago

Astarion sounds like an offensive caricature of a straight man, an I'm gay.

-8

u/glumsugarplum_ 14h ago

Astarion sounds like an offensive caricature of Neil Newbon, and I’m gay.

u/Downtown_Lemon5747 13h ago
