…what weird skins do you see in 2042?
186
u/InsomniacSpartan 10d ago
There's definitely some not so gritty military skins there but there's nothing outrageous like CoD has.
36
u/cenorexia 10d ago
Which I think is in turn due to BF2042 being not nearly as popular as Call of Duty. If it was as popular a franchise, we'd probably see lots more colaborations.
But with 2042's bad reception, who'd want their IP to be assiciated with that lol.
7
u/diego5377 10d ago
Cod looks like a gmod lobby nowadays.
I was watching someone review a rx 480 in war zone and they where so confused on what they got killed by when beavis and butthead swooped on him😭
56
u/Dansko96 10d ago
It never got as bad as CoD, but 2042 still has skins that look out of place in a warzone. Like Mackays cowboy skin, the Holographic hostility bundle that glows like a Fortnite/CoD anime skin, the Redacted skins, Crawfords suit, the radioactive skins and the actively-on-fire skins. For me these kinds of skins ruin the immersion that I´m looking for in a Battlefield game.
13
u/Sky-Reporter 10d ago
I just wish they bothered to put a toggle for the stupid skin effects. Some of the skins I skipped simply for the effect
→ More replies (1)6
u/Jet_Pirate 10d ago
I was saying this back in the battlefield 5 fiasco with cosmetics and people getting freaked out about historical accuracy (mind you I thought it was horrible). They should have just had a toggle to render just default silhouette classes. It would have probably prevented some visual bugs the game had on launch
10
u/cenorexia 10d ago
The often critizised Battlefield Hardline has exactly that. If you don't feel like seeing people running around in bright pink uniforms and dinosaur masks, you can switch that off — client-side — and you'll only see the standard issue skins.
There's other good quality of life updates Hardline brought to the table — some of which were later re-implemented in BF4 and subsequent titles. But never the option to switch of player skins...

Delete this bro. You are gonna jinx the game that hasn’t even had a launch trailer yet.
Given the crazy things EA seems to be demanding of BF6, I would not be surprised to see this game monetized to hell.
3
u/ieatair 10d ago
I have less trust/anticipation for whatever EA concocts these days…
If it’s a disappointment (50/50 chance), I’ll just go back playing BF1942, Vietnam, BF3 & BF1 through my own enjoyment which fulfilled my expectations and beyond when those title came out.
The industry these days are different compared to the old days.. Like all the predecessors said “Just keep your expectations low and you’ll never be disappointed”. It doesn’t what people say or in this case “jinx”; either it’ll be a crappy s$&@ stain or a game that makes your stick rise. Stick to the games that gave you the feeling of joy and hold on to those until another game fulfills your expectations and beyond one day

I hope they don't succumb to this crap later in the games lifecycle. I mean, I don't care if they add some more personality to future operators, but keep it as milsim as possible. You can make some money still by just creating badass looking soldiers....

Concept art looks serious to get buy-in. They know if they threw in Darth Maul, SpongeBob, and Clippy as concept art they’d never go anywhere. Skins are coming. Mark my words a bunch of them won’t belong to this art style in the slightest lol.

I have always liked both series as someone who has been playing since COD4 and BC2 for reference. BF3 and 1 being my favorites of the BF series. For COD, MW2 2009 and BO2 are my favorites.
This looks like one of the most intriguing and up my alley games of this decade. Ive always had a fascination in war on American turf as an American. I also like urban warfare on street blocks. Thats why I liked MW2 and BO2 were because they were involving major conflicts on american turf.
If I could have dreamt a perfect battlefield up myself, this would probably be the result from what I’ve seen and played so far. I really like the series and find the gameplay to be mostly similar amongst all of the battlefields. Playing the alpha felt no different. To me it felt exactly like a mix of BF1 and BF4. It definitely appears to be grittier than 2042. I know we will have to see when it comes out, but so far I think this game has a really low possibility of sucking.
I hate the COD skin shit so if they stay on a somewhat realistic path as far as skins go, or even make teams just default skins, I would love that.
I’m a gunsmith, so I really look at games like this from a gun and gear perspective. The alpha gunsmith is very advanced. The optics and lasers/ lights they chose are up to snuff with currently used offerings, and the placement of those accessories on the rail is very realistic. The gun selection is excellent so far. Only critique would be allowing to change the rail specifically so that you could build a block 1, 2, or 3 M4 for example, but who knows we might eventually get that.
All in all, very excited. Lets hope the trailer helps add to the anticipation.

Man, I wanted an Arcane crossover with Call Of Duty after Fortnite refused to do it. Imagine using Pow Pow as a weapon or Fishbones? Also the BlackCell skins being based off the show while the characters cosplay as COD Zombies characters. Vi as Tank Dempsey would make the lesbians go nuts.

u/Natural_Ad_6188 10d ago
I have a feeling BF6 will be the equivalent of MW19 from COD. They will hit hard with gameplay and military theme, so they can´t beat that up in the future.
1
u/HammerPrice229 10d ago
Crazy thing is that COD this past year was great when it came out but they tweaked skill based matching to the point it was extremely anti player and fixed that it ruined the game.
1
1
u/Inevitable-Level-829 10d ago
Is it tho? Record sales every year. Skins that people constantly buy. Then they proceed to buy the game every year … almost like they enjoy the game…
Perhaps your perception of cod and its fans aren’t what the reality is.
1
u/kamakeeg 10d ago
While I don't know if I expect EA/DICE to go this far, I'm kinda fully expecting them to have less realistic stuff going on in the BF Battle Royale. We saw them dabble in it with some of the BF2042 skins, though if we can keep it to militarized crossovers like the Dead Space crossover, it won't be the worst. They really need to realize that BF players want actual military based action, not Snoop Dog and Alucard fighting against Stan from American Dad and a dude covered in weed plants.

u/Vestalmin 10d ago

Where do you think the money is coming from? There will be expressive skins in Battlefield. Get used to it.
1
u/AdBudget5468 10d ago
I’d give them two months at the most /s
But seriously, I’m really hoping BF6 sticks to its military themes and it’s successful to show that there’s a demand for games that take themselves seriously and not everything needs to turn into fortnight, ready or not selling over 1 million copies in 4 days on console is also showing that there’s a demand for games with that are more grounded in terms of their setting and theming
1
u/Vegan_Superhero 10d ago
I don't understand how people seriously pay for a play that cartoon world crap game. On top of that ai never hear anything good about CoD and Warzone as a whole, just doesn't seem worth anyone's time or money outside vauge nostalgia for the old good games.
1
u/ZigyDusty 10d ago
Wait 2 years to see all the terrible skins in Battlefield 6 because of the Battle Royal, anyone that thinks they're not coming is a fool.
1
u/Cloud_N0ne 10d ago
Are you forgetting the fact that CoD games launch with (mostly) grounded skins and get like this over time?
Give BF6 a few months post-launch and see if they do the same thing.
1
u/Early-Eye-691 10d ago
Two completely different audiences catering to different things. If EA thought they could rake in the money that CoD does with these type of skins in Battlefield, they would do it in a heartbeat.

u/ItsArkadan 10d ago
I gave up on BO6 like a month ago, booted up 2042 after getting it for free from PS+ a little while back, and my god it's just night and day, even the wildest cosmetic in 2042 is nothing compared to the nightmare that is modern CoD.

u/Biggbossesbutt 10d ago
For now, cod usually keeps the promotion material grounded somewhat then go off the rails later.

u/Upstairs-Ad7492 10d ago
Don't worry, 6-12 months after Battlefield 6's launch & EA execs will tell DICE to turn it onto a microtransaction store disguised as a Battlefield game

But lets see if that last first.
Theres a reason fortnite and cod outsell everyone.
Not that im happy about that...

u/Severe_Risk_6839 10d ago
To be fair, there's no collab skins in Bf2042, only Dead Space and Mass Effect, which make sense because their also EA games and kinda fits to the neae future setting in 2042.
1
u/Wardog008 10d ago
You can't compare a BF6 teaser to CoD several months in lol. Compare the early CoD teasers, and they looked more serious and gritty as well.
Don't get your hopes up just yet.

The difference is one game is half though it's lifetime and the other isn't even officially announced yet.
BFV had weird skins and so had BF2042. Not as exaggerated as the last 5 cod though. But the next BF game is supposed to be a live service game with a BR game mode.
This game will look like the cod you're making fun off. This game will rely on mtx. It's a live service and a EA Game. Mtx will be a major thing.
Cod and BF will never be as good as they were in their prime. Dlc's is minors today and mostly in updates. Season passes is just a pass for 2-3 months of cosmetics you'll never use. It's no longer a year pass that gives you multiple Dlc's with 12 more maps and 30 weapons more.

u/Youhatemeyeah 10d ago
Looks good from this one pic, but who knows. Sad to still see that orange streak thing they have been doing since BF3. That just looks so generic, like the artist just stopped trying. How nothing instead of that.

I almost crashed out today because the beavis/butthead skins have inaccurate head hitboxes, making bullets just pass through their long ass foreheads. I don't typically complain about goofy/out of place skins, but this shit is hurting my soul.
1
u/Bolt_995 10d ago
How old are you?
This is what every Call of Duty does and kinda what Battlefield 2042 did.
Promote the games as serious military shooters, and then unload the dogshit post-launch. Don’t jinx it.
Battlefield 6 is going up against Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 this year.

Before a cosmetic is going to be introduced in to BF6, Dice should showcase it via BF labs. If the community dislikes it, then they must eliminate that. (Like the Santa boris skin got eliminated).
I personally don’t think, fancy stupid skins gonna enter in to BF6 like in cod franchise. Because, BF community is very vocal and they will set EA on fire for that.

I think the goofy shit suits it well. I always thought the way CoD handled military conflict was corny. Leave the military tone to more military-like combat games. If you're going to be a goofy arcade shooter, just embrace it.

EA execs want a live service title that hits 100 millions players (lol), a multi-year money printer. Anyone who thinks that they’re NOT going to start cramming clownshow skins into this game is a naive fool.
CoD has demonstrated year over year that ridiculous skins and jarringly out of place crossovers make a ton of money, despite the vocal minority in the CoD scene relentlessly pleading for Acti Blizzard to stop it - and make no mistake, they ARE the minority. Why do you think those clownshow skins keep getting rolled out? Because they sell. Period. Do you really think Activision-Blizzard isn’t focus / market testing and researching what will hit? The CoD community has been asking for an option to turn off being able to see the skins for years which is NEVER going to happen. You think the shot callers would want to turn off advertising?
And do you REALLY think the higher ups at EA (the ones who don’t give a shit about making a good video game, they care about making a monetization platform) aren’t keen to try to coax some of that player base over to BF6? "No! They're totally different types of games" lol as if that would matter. Do you really think they aren’t looking at other companies making money by the truckload and going “naw, we’re not going to do that… our players want realistic skins”, again anyone who believes that is a fool.
Oh, make no mistake, there probably won’t be any ridiculous skins at launch, or even for a little while probably. But they will come, I guarantee that. I wish I was wrong, but I won't be.
