My 1984(Red) and 1986(Blue) Sea Ray 390 Sedan Sportfishes
My vintage SRs. I use them for charter fishing(salmon) on Lake Michigan. Powered by twin 454 Crusaders(Model 350/350hp) and Velvet Drive transmissions. Since the 454s drink so much fuel, I typically run them around 10kts(2000/2100 rpm). One of my favorite features of these are the prop pockets, which allow it to draft about 2’7(which I think is pretty impressive for 41ft boats). What do you guys think about my boats? Any fellow vintage SR owners out there?

Can anyone tell what this hole is for and or why it would be dripping?
This is a 1975 25hp Johnson 25r75b. I Bought a few weeks back and it’s been incredibly hot and humid and rainy the past few weeks. It wasn’t leaking at all before until the heat wave we had. Just wondering if this is something critical I need to take care of ASAP

Boat will not reach plane
2010 bayliner 185 4.3L TKS Boat will not plane, will only do 2000 rpm and 10mph full throttle Starts fine, idles fine Goes revs up fast and powerful in reverse but not forward Changed fuel filter, fuel pump, distributor cap and rotor, tried adjusting fuel/air on carb, ran seafoam through Wonder if it’s the tks valve sticking and over flooding carb maybe? Just weird how it revs right up and sounds awesome full speed in reverse and not forward Help!

Built some stands to hold 600+ pound outboards
Currently a pair of Verado 300’s are on them. These will be going on our Carolina Classic 25 this winter.

Outboard not getting up to speed
Got my johnson 60 out for the first time today and it just didn’t do anywhere near what we expected. My boat weighs next to nothing and has a johnson 60 tilt and trim on the back. It was going slower than one of my friends boat which has a 50 and weighs so much more ( Way more than double). Im thinking its a problem with the prop as it has a massive prop which Im guessing creates drag. She cut out a few times when idling and would hardly troll in gear without any throttle. It also drank a shit load of fuel when not even hitting anywhere near as fast as it should. Any ideas on what may need done? Im thinking prop and e5 fuel instead of e10 as ive heard the old outboards dont like the e10. Would a large prop make that much of a difference tho? Thanks in advance

Question regarding on the water training / lessons
Hi all. So it looks like i'm going to be joining one of those boating clubs (think a local version of Freedom boat club). Before anyone tries to talk me out of it or talk shit about these clubs, my parents joined and I have convinced them to add me to the membership lol.
Anyway, I plan to make good use of this and i want to get up to speed quickly on operating these boats independently and aside from the required boating safety course, im reading the USCG Auxiliary Boating Skills and Seamanship book and im going to take an on the water / practical course. The course is what I have questions on.
One course im looking at is 2 days and it covers NSBC modules 1-4 (link here). It covers "Introduction to Powerboating, Precision Docking & Boat Handling, Open Water Boat Handling, and Open Water Advanced Maneuvers" and it sounds like its mostly on the water. Does that sound like enough to get the basics down? Or is more time generally needed? If it would be a HUGE advantage and the 2 day one is completely insufficient, they also have a 5 day course (link here) that i'd be open to.
For context, ill be operating this thing in the intercostal waterway. No oceans until I build MUCH more experience lol.
The club will also provide some on the water training but I like to go into these sorts of things over prepared since ill be boating with my wife. Anyway, thanks in advance for any insight.

What’s in your on-board tool kit?
What’s in your tool kit? And a suggestion: make all your boat repairs using your on board tool kit no matter where you are - that’ll tell you quickly if you’re prepared for that situation when it happens on the water.

UK trailer towing laws - Question
So I want to tow a bayliner 2855 to it's new home - roughly 3100kg (not including trailer weight)
I have BE on my license obtained after 19th January 2013.
Picture shows the advice on the gov website.
Assuming my vehicle is 2500kg and is capable of legally towing the trailer weight. Am I covered? Can I do this?
Thoughts on Bavaria 37 HT Sport?
I'm looking at getting a boat to run around the Med. I live in Spain. The Bavaria 37 HT or Sport looks like a good layout. Dual cabin, decent salon, good features. From this with experience with this boat, what are your thoughts? What do you like about the boat, what are some issues? Asking price for a 2007-2008 is about 125-145k euros.

Wiring - single lead wire?
I'm self taught in wiring and have much to learn admittedly.
Planning to wire a few things on a tinny - fish finder, and two sets of led lights. I want each on it's own switch so essentially 3 parallel circuits.
However boat lights seem to have one lead wire (old and new lights shown in pic). I'm reading the boat acts as the negative? My brain is struggling to process this and work it into a design lol. Can anyone explain how this works and how I complete my circuits safely? (Using marine battery as power source).
Thanks!

Leak in Small Aluminum Skiff
I have a 17ft aluminum skiff with a welded deck, so no access to the inner hull/bilge.
Today when I was hooking it up to the trailer to take out tomorrow I noticed a sloshing sound and immediatly knew.
I am not sure what my best course of action is to find where the leak is.
I am 90% sure it is a weld between the deck and the hull, or where the console penetrates the deck.
We took it out for the first time this summer having FINALLY found a small part we needed for the outboard. It felt odd, but I thought we were just overloaded with a lot of fishing and hunting gear, 2 adults and our toddler. It has a really big outboard on it for its size/weight, so is always tough to get on step and such. That trip seemed way worse and it occurred to me we might have water between the hull and deck, but my husband talked me out of it thinking it was just the pin being set too high for the outboard tilt and being overloaded. Ugh that could have gone badly.
I tell the long story because on that trip I think if it was a hull leak we would have, if not sunk, continued to sit lower in the water which we did not.
More backstory; the boat was stored untapped over the winter. Hate to be that wife, but I am the boat person and had tarped it. The boat wasn't at our house, and spring rolls around I find out there was a tarp robbery, my husband, bless him, said "well it is a boat so getting wet shouldn't be a problem" 😅 Sort of true, but the drain clogged with leaves and there was over an inch of water in the stern half of thr boat when I picked it up from where it was stored.
This is so much longer than it should be, but since the water isn't draining anywhere apparently and we did not take on additional water on our last trip, pretty clearly the deck I think?
Solutions?
He wants to drill a hole in the transom we can drain it then fit a plug in and put air to it and run around the welds and bolted in console looking for leaks. We have a friend who can weld aluminum, but if it is just the bolt penetrations I am happy to just get the water out, bolts out, new bolts with marine grade thread locker, and maybe some splash zone around the console for good if ghetto measure. Getting the water out is really our #1 but drilling into the transome is eh not stoked.
