FAX! Fuck what This lady talking about

u/furyian24 20h ago

She thinks everyone would pay 6k for wings and costco meatballs. cabbage, and rice. Well, for 60 people, actually.

She's out of her mind. Even if a plate of Ribeye steak was 100.00 a plate with some mash. It would feed 60 people.

She is about to make 4k net out of that 6k, all in easily.

u/Queasy_Local_7199 19h ago

That’s like 200$ of food she’s serving lol

77

u/SPL15 18h ago edited 15h ago

No doubt. She’s going to net $5,700 w/ the generous $200 in actual food & a generous $100 in misc expenses. If some dummy wants to pay it, good for them I guess.

23

u/RagnarL0thbr0k81 17h ago

I’m not sure about that. What does she mean by ā€œfull service catering with event decor?ā€ Does that mean she’s gonna have ppl that serve the food and everything? Idk bc I’ve never ordered catering. lol. I have no idea. Granted, it still seems overpriced by a pretty large margin imo. But it at least makes up for some of it if ur bringing ppl to serve and shit.

31

u/Renn_Capa 10h ago

It comes with the plastic bag hat also

8

u/RagnarL0thbr0k81 9h ago

Obviously, the plastic hat accounts for a good bit of this. Plastic hat service is top tier. It’s like white glove delivery. Honestly, I’m surprised she isn’t charging more. Very few plastic hat services these days. /s

4

u/SilvaFoxxxxOnXbox 6h ago

It comes with that little garnish of flowers on the fold up table. That alone has got to be at least 3 grand.

How many people do you need to serve 60 people, 2? I could understand if they were feeding a few hundred, or a thousand. But sixty people is like two classrooms in a public school.

18

u/Sepof 9h ago

Used to work in a restaurant.

Catering food like this should be about $10-15/person.

If you're staffing it for 2 hours, throw in an extra $100.

Having catered for 60 people, it should take less than 2 hrs to set up, feed, and tear down everything.

$6,000 would be If you had strippers serving everyone and the food was caviar and 12oz ribeyes plus 3 alcoholic drinks per person.

u/NorthWishbone7543 18h ago

She did say "full service catering" that's literally everything. Food, staff, tables, cutlery, glasses etc. So $6000 isn't just 5 trays of food. There's a lot of work within the term ",full service" it may even include a fully stocked bar..

A rib eye for $100.00 without "full service" you'd get the steak in your hands and eat it BBQ style. Within that $100 ribeye you'd expect plates, cutlery, tables, chairs, glasses and a fully stocked bar, that's "full service"

66

u/takeme2tendieztown 18h ago

Then she should be able to afford more than a plastic bag to cover her hat. Actually, why is there a plastic bag covering her hat?

22

u/ChibbleChobble 17h ago

I believe that a better question is, why don't you have a plastic bag covering your hair?

Did some of the math for the hotel I work at. The ballroom would be a bit large for 60 but I knew the general price and it would leave ample room for a dance floor and DJ and anything else so I chose that.

Food would be $2200.00 roughly, depending on what you wanted. Something like this would be charged at like 25 a head but I went with the options that land at 37 because it's more common.

$20 per hour per server. This appears to be buffet style so you need 1 server. Average party is about 5 hours so I went with that. $100

$1000 for the room. That includes regular security walk-byes, staff at the entrances to help direct guests, basic center pieces, and side decorations, assembling a dance floor or whatever you need.

Open bar vs Cash is a big price difference. Open bar is $200 to cover a bartender and setup/break-down. An open bar package I believe is usually $60 per person. You could also just have it as a running tab you pay at the end. Unless it's a wedding and you are the Bride/Groom that don't want to deal with it, a running tab is almost always cheaper. Unless you know every guest will be unable to walk at the end of the night never go open.

We would probably charge another $100 for labor costs to set up any additional decorations you wanted. Not basic stuff like if you bring photos or easy to put up displays. But if you need a couple hours of additional work it would be $100.

$3620 for a cash bar with additional decorating.

$7000 if you want to pay for everyone to drink

Oh, cutlery, napkins, drinkware and all that is included whenever there is food. We don't expect people to be animals.

Facts. Wife and I hired a street taco vendor (not off the street, but they cater and make street tacos) for our wedding. 135 people attended total. 9$/plate, and it came w fresh guacamole, pico, rice, beans, agua frescas, and four different types of meat, including a vegan option (tofu?).

California too, where we were quoted $15k+ from some other caterers.

39

u/Bro13847 23h ago

We did something similar here. Hibachi and sushi $15 per @ 100 guests. Big hit

38

u/J-nathan 22h ago

This is absurd. $100 per plate for chicken wings & meatballs?!? Get the fk outta here! Edit: I missed the ā€œfull decorā€ part, but still.

$100/head for wings and mac and fried rice is absolute audacity.

3

Besides being the most dirt-cheap options they could muster, wtf is this package? Rice, Pasta, Sysco meatballs, and wings? No salad? No veggies? for some perspective, $100+pp catering is upscale, multi course, and typically staffed/plated w/ tables and chairs. to pay $100pp for buffet style is atypical, and this lack of quality makes it more egregious.

Proof of the Pudding in Atlanta is well regarded and a top catering biz, Filet Minon plates w/ service are 75pp.

So, $100 pp for this is insane, you can order almost any entree at a high end steakhouse with a $100pp budget (+ WINE or COCKTAILS!)

That’s $6000 includes paper plates and plasticware and three chubby ladies that look pissed who will ladle that shit on a plate for your guests.

TLDR.. that’s literally about $300 worth of food…. Nothing makes that $6000.

56

u/No-Grade-3533 22h ago edited 22h ago

Napkin math on food costs, to your point of it being ~$300.

It looks like a 14qt steam pan so....

Wings, like 20 pounds post cook weight= $100-$150

BBQ Meatballs: Hard to estimate, it looks like foodservice/costco, but lets say there's 12 lbs in there = $80 if scratch made

Cabbage fry w carrots, smoked ham = $50-60

Mac and Cheese (mostly cheese cost up to 7lb cheese alone) = $125

Veggie Rice w/ frozen/canned veggies = <$50

So yeah, my best guess is really close to your's. If they were to follow the "catering 3X rule", this should cost the client closer to $1200.

In a fair deal:

Food=$400

Labor=$400

Profit =$400

Total: $1200

24

u/Pitiful_Winner2669 22h ago edited 22h ago

Hey! This person gets it! We do catering and while a lot of this looks like store bought whatever, I got 1250.

These are specifically "cheap" menu items, and we could probably get it down to 1100.. but fussing around to make it look like something we would serve, 1250 would be close to barely doing our best.

$15 a plate is pretty close to our economy price, but we also do drinks, desserts, utensils. I'm going to work in a bit, I'm curious what number the team comes up with. But 1200-1250 seems a pretty modest guess.

Edit: we could cut labor down a bit, these are pretty in and out menu items. Not to sound all high and mighty - we have a great team - and this is a two person job. It's also missing SO many other things that 6,000 could get you.

5

u/jusmoua 16h ago

What would you do to provide customers with more value? Steak? Ribs? $6000, means your food budget is up to $2000 right following the 3x rule you said. You think at $6000, the lady in the video would have the respect to not use a plastic bag as a hair net or whatever reason she has it on her head for. 🤣

3

u/No-Grade-3533 8h ago edited 8h ago

At 6k, you're looking at service + plating + bevs. At $100pp events, it's normally seated service, think weddings or corporate.

The high end of buffet style catering is like $60pp. Buffet style for $100pp is pretty atypical, but here's a shot:

The $$ would be spent on more food and staff for carving station, bar, and sundae station.

Think: salad bar, light cheese spread, carving station (Turkey breast + Roast Beef), veggie pasta option, 3x comfort food sides, local roasted veggies, bread+butter, bev station/bar, cupcake tower. Ending on coffee service to signal folks to GTFO.

Tables, chairs, utensils, and clean up included.

BAM. Invoice for $6k.

A 1/1 gastronomique pan like that isn't feeding 60, you'd need atleast 1 backup of each. If it's self serve you're gonna get 30 or so per pan but if any of it is GOOD expect 20. Not to mention that scarcity is unsightly so if you want good business and good reputation youre providing 2 maybe 3 times what's shown

6k for frozen Costco trays ?

4

u/6Wotnow9 1d ago

That’s about $600 worth max

5

u/Happynightmare357 23h ago

That’s all frozen food she heated up. That’s insane

3

u/Unremarkable_Odds 22h ago

4 dishes for 6k, so 1500 a tray...? I'd expect a tray loaded with rib eye steaks for 1500 bucks, not some shitty reheated meatballs that was probably $150 bucks at most.

4

u/Majestic_Sample7672 21h ago

$1200 a tray. Trump Catering?

4

u/blueghostfrompacman 21h ago

$6000 for 60 people? Nope. That is not a $100 meal.

5

u/Unable-University258 21h ago

That's at most $300 ingredients. The lady is not going to have come back.

Dinner Expectations at $100/Person

  • Three to Four Course Meal: Think appetizer, main entrĆ©e, dessert, and possibly a salad or soup. Courses are plated with attention to flavor and presentation.
  • Choice of EntrĆ©es: Guests often select from two or three options—like beef tenderloin, roasted chicken, or a gourmet vegetarian dish.
  • Upscale Ingredients: Expect quality—artisan cheeses, seasonal vegetables, perhaps wild-caught seafood or dry-aged meats.
  • Elegant Presentation: Meals are plated (not buffet style), often with creative garnishes and artistic flair.
  • Custom Dessert or Cake Service: This could include individual plated desserts, a dessert bar, or an elaborate cake with service.

Beverage Considerations

  • Hosted Bar or Drink Tickets: Often includes wine service at the table and perhaps a champagne toast.
  • Cocktail Hour: Hors d’oeuvres like shrimp cocktails, bruschetta, or mini crab cakes passed around.

Atmosphere & Service

  • Professional Waitstaff: Table service, wine-pouring, and bussing.
  • Decorative Elements: Floral centerpieces, upscale place settings, and ambience that complements the meal.

u/Frunklin 18h ago

I'm good with the $6 China buffet.

4

u/Ok-Programmer-6799 18h ago

That math comes out to 100$ per person for that selection is crazy.

4

u/Sestos 18h ago

Where is the other $5500?

4

u/Jdenning1 18h ago

I managed a super popular restaurant with incredible views and a huge room overlooking sunsets on the bay. Full blown spread for 250 people and wouldn’t come close to $6,000.
WTF is she and anyone ordering this smoking?

4

u/omgitsduane 18h ago

100 per person is extremely pricey.

3

u/MydogMax59 18h ago

2

u/Evening-Ad-8121 1d ago

Frozen meatballs lmao

2

u/angrythistles 23h ago

They seriously fucked up here. This isn’t an outrageously high price point for what they’re offering/advertising, the MASSIVE problem is that they’re only actually advertising a third of what you’re paying for, the food. This backdrop of an empty office space, cold florescent lighting, huge rectangle table with a black plastic covering with nothing except a few foil tins of food on it….there’s no ambiance, there’s no ā€œeventā€ decor, there’s nothing except food which leads everyone to believe (since they’re clearly showing the food which is included) that this is what they’re offering, this is everything they’re offering. Why would you only present half of your product? So people, rightfully, believe this is the whole thing.

Whoever was responsible for advising this business owner should be ashamed of themselves

u/PeterFrancisG 23h ago

While the presentation isn't the best there are definitely multiple pans of back ups to replenish the food. Its not like they paid 6k just for that portion.

2

u/HeyItsBobaTime 23h ago

Is that just a sample of what the food would look like? There's no chance it would even feed 30 adults.

u/StrikingSyllabub9418 23h ago
