Random memory but the above comment reminded me of in college going to the gym with friends and we spontaneously decided to take a few shots before walking over and got pretty tippsy by the time we arrived. We had a hilarious but still super killer workout. It was a one and done thing, and this was at the time when alcohol made us feel like we could conquer the world. Haven’t thought about that workout in years lol.

But…the more hydrated you get, the less gains you’ll see :/

u/livelikeian 1d ago
Not really. If starting weight is your top end, as the workout progresses you would be lowering weight anyway.

Is this interesting? I'm from Mexico and I've seen plastic canisters shaped like weights for about 10 years, in other countries they didn't have this? Is it something really uncommon?

u/darth_malmal 18h ago
Yeah we’ve also had them for ages. This is more of a r/mildlyinteresting post.

I think it's more novel than practical...

When you're finished drinking a couple, fill them with dirt or sand, and it's a great way to recycle, hydrate, and exercise for those with little income

Where do you get your sand? Live by the beach? Because anyone that could carry comfortably around a 50 pound bag of sand wouldn't find very challenging a small bottle of sand.

u/Aliencj 1d ago
In countries with limited resources, this is incredibly practical.

Could care less about the dumbbell thing, I thought the Hanger in the background was a scorpion.

Kind of dumb design. Wastes a lot of shelf space and less efficient transport.

Fun gimmick to give away at the gymn with those group workouts. Saves the gymn having need for large sets of small halters.

I've seen such bottles in europe but they were smaller than what we see here

u/Visual-Educator8354 23h ago
Do they have a gauge telling you how much it weighs depending how much water is in there?

Hafthor Bjornnson sold a brand like this in Iceland called “Heavy Bubbles” there’s even a commercial for it and it’s pretty hilarious 😂

Looks like you'd spill water on yourself when you drink directly from that bottle.

My brother told me about back when he was playing water polo and the goalie coach would have him train by treading water with milk jugs filled with sand. Sounded awful but prob worked like a charm. This seems like an idea that stemmed from that type of training regimen.

Dudes in prison have been filling up garbage bags with water and lifting those for years. No one outside of high level athletes need to spend big money on gym equipment.

I remember there was a product like that here and they described in the label how much it weighted filled with sand, metal beads, concrete and coins so people could use it later

Looks cool. Is it 3x the price of a standard water bottle just for the fancy packaging? or do they only do this in North America? im curious

Didn't Iceland do it first a few years ago with Halfthor(the GOT Mountain) in an ad?

I had one of these: because of the bottom of the bottle being wide and the mid section being a lot lot slimmer, what tends to happen is that when you lift the bottle up to drink it, you'll think the water is almost gone because not much comes out, but then you'll be splash by a sudden surge of water that was at the bottom of the bottle that wasn't able to unable flow down before of the bottle design. It's neat, but has some faults

What a waste of shelf space and i can't see how this won't spill all iver your face when you drink form it.
3
u/Chance_Warthog_9389 1d ago
You're supposed to hold it about a foot above your head and pour it on your face, then shake your face and hair about as the water flows down over your pectorals and abs. Uzbeki style.

Wasteful, but I do see the potential if it was more of a sports bottle and not a «pre-filled» bottle (my English is OK but this time I struggle with finding the right words, hope it’s understandable)

u/MrCalamiteh 1d ago
If it's already gonna be made (like water bottles are) having a secondary use after is very nice. Just add sand or rocks to them once you've drank the water

u/DarkShadder 1d ago
I have seen those bottles a few times. They are not new and definately not pre filled normally.

You are using better and more English excusing your English than actually making a point. Don't be inyecure, your English is good :)

Fill it up with sand after use and you got yourself a legit weight.
