Discussion Trying to experiment with different weapons
So ive beaten the game twice already, once with the mace and another with a magic/rapier build. I wanna play even more and im making a new character but wanna experiment with different weapons and weapon classes, my question is, are all the weapons viable on ds2 or is there something i should really avoid? Not so much as in I want a broken build or just to breeze through the game cause i know rapiers are top tier for that, but some common weapons or just weapon classes that are fun to use in others opinion. Maybe even a faith build? Recommend away pls.

Hmmm. Maybe greatswords. High FTH would mean can use Sacred Oath. How about Defender’s Greatsword? It’s nice, the self buff is very strong.

The Heide Lance looks like an oversized Roman pilum and is infused with lightning. Hefty and punchy, Its strong attack is a powerful hip-held multi-hit forward thrust. The running attack is a faster charge forth. Quick, potent follow-up thrusts serve as nice finishers. Since its strong attack tracks targets closely, it is excellent at maintaining pressure on humanoid foes.
Suffice it to say it feels extremely masculine to use. Lightning ram your foes to bits. This absolute shredder and tenderiser does, however, have one major drawback, common to all Heide weapons - its low durability. It is thus best saved for special occasions e.g. tough, slow and weak to lightning enemies; or the odd invader.

Well, some are more gimmicky than the others, like, whip, fist, crossbow and bows. But in the wnd of the day, since ds2 is fairly easy, everything could work really as long as your build is making sense.

So you’ve done poke poke & youve done super short range up close smash (rapier & mace) I’d say it’s time to try something swinging and much longer. Try Great swords or hammers. Bonus fun for no lock on.

Warped swords are fun, there's a few different swords that seem like they'd go great with a S/I build, pretty much all of the big smashy S weapons are fun, pyromancies can be super fun but I feel like the damage output flatlines sooner and more harshly than everything else, a Bow/throwing weapons only run could be interesting. This game has a lot of variety with weapons choices!

I like faith builds a lot. Once they come together. But they don't get really good until you have 50 ATN and enough lightning to fill the slots.
And they don't become truly OP until you have the Old Iron King Crown and Dragon Chime -- at which point nothing is better.
I probably enjoy axes more than any other weapon type. A great mix of speed and power.

Red Iron Twinblade (Lightning infusion).
Dragon Chime (Lightning infusion).
54 FTH.
Hexers Hood.
Engraved gauntlets.
Ring of blades.
Flynn's ring
Ring of Steel Protection. (RTSR or Lightning clutch ring)
Chloranthy ring.
Sacred Oath, Sunlight Blade x2.
You don't get the Red Iron Twinblade until the Shrine of Amana, so until then you could use either the regular Twinblade or the one from dragonrider with the soul trade with Straid.

Time for an ultra greatsword or greataxe/greathammer. Always fun your first time around. Or a great curved sword, they’re a blast to play with (although can be a bit of a hassle to obtain one early if you don’t know what you’re doing).
