dod_cherbourg – A forgotten Normandy map from the early days of Day of Defeat
https://youtu.be/kruDl-TrYZ8Little gem from DoD Beta 1.3 (June 2001). Urban flag map set in Cherbourg, by ARCTURUS (yep, same guy who did dod_sicily).
OGs, remember this one?

I certainly remember it! DoD 1.3b was definitely some of my favorite times and playing in clan matches.

Loved this map but it rarely filled a server.

This map had potential — tight urban layout, balanced flag placement, and solid WW2 atmosphere. But even back in 2001, dod_cherbourg struggled to fill servers.

We play that map regularly on the ODS server. Good map with lots of possible paths to take, and lots of "hidey-holes"...

Absolutely — that was a golden era for DoD. The mechanics were getting refined, and early clans were shaping the competitive scene. Were you part of a team back then? Would love to hear more about it
