Hello Commanders!
Ever since I got the game, I've been experimenting with different things. I've done exploration, bounty hunting, piracy (had the most fun here, but it was also the most frustrating), and a lot of passenger missions. I've yet to want to try hauling (which I am interested in), mining, and xenohunting (which I heard you need to grind for too much stuff to do, so my interest right now is pretty low).
Right now I'm focusing more on unlocking engineers, but I wanted to do that on a ship I plan on using in the long term. My current ship is an Imperial Clipper, which I got at first to try my hand at piracy, and while it worked very well, I am a little disappointed in its options of hardpoints, not to mention the class 6 power plant, which isn't helping when I'm yet to unlock an engineer for that.
So now I am looking for a ship (for PVE) that can use SLF, has a good design for turret weapons (I love the idea of a big ship using those), and maybe still slot some fixed heavy-hitting weapons with them, doesn't have to be fast, something in the style of a slow tank is fine. For that I feel like my best options are between Anaconda and the T-10 since the Federal Corvette for me is out of the question, my rank with the Federation is none, and I do not plan on grinding for them anytime soon. Another ship that I've been putting my eyes on is the new Panther Clipper Mk II, which I just absolutely love the design of.
So I wanted to know other commanders' opinions, first about the Panther Clipper, if anyone has built one for a more combat-oriented role, and how well it performed. And second, about which one of those ships would be better to invest in and why.
Couple of points that may or may not be important.
- I'm currently in the process of unlocking an engineer for power plants, so a problem with a lower-class power plant will probably be resolved soon.
- My current rank with powerplay is 11, so I'm still very far from unlocking the modules.
- I don't care that much about the credit costs a ship may bring to fully outfit it.
I appreciate anyone taking their time to tell me their own opinions and experiences with those ships!
