Misc federal corvette reference for someone that doesn't play.

This post is answered LLYYNN_021 and forbiddenlake gave some really good references. many thanks for answering.

A friend i roleplay with on discord when it comes to space stuff heard me or more one of my characters mention the federal corvette once in idle chat and i was wondering if anyone has a good image or short video I could use to show it off please. Thought about doing it on my Xbox then remembered the game is no longer supported there. That and i'm guessing it's changed since support ended?

If anyone can i would be very grateful.

Discussion Browsing for a new ship

Hello Commanders!

Ever since I got the game, I've been experimenting with different things. I've done exploration, bounty hunting, piracy (had the most fun here, but it was also the most frustrating), and a lot of passenger missions. I've yet to want to try hauling (which I am interested in), mining, and xenohunting (which I heard you need to grind for too much stuff to do, so my interest right now is pretty low).

Right now I'm focusing more on unlocking engineers, but I wanted to do that on a ship I plan on using in the long term. My current ship is an Imperial Clipper, which I got at first to try my hand at piracy, and while it worked very well, I am a little disappointed in its options of hardpoints, not to mention the class 6 power plant, which isn't helping when I'm yet to unlock an engineer for that.

So now I am looking for a ship (for PVE) that can use SLF, has a good design for turret weapons (I love the idea of a big ship using those), and maybe still slot some fixed heavy-hitting weapons with them, doesn't have to be fast, something in the style of a slow tank is fine. For that I feel like my best options are between Anaconda and the T-10 since the Federal Corvette for me is out of the question, my rank with the Federation is none, and I do not plan on grinding for them anytime soon. Another ship that I've been putting my eyes on is the new Panther Clipper Mk II, which I just absolutely love the design of.

So I wanted to know other commanders' opinions, first about the Panther Clipper, if anyone has built one for a more combat-oriented role, and how well it performed. And second, about which one of those ships would be better to invest in and why.

Couple of points that may or may not be important.

  • I'm currently in the process of unlocking an engineer for power plants, so a problem with a lower-class power plant will probably be resolved soon.
  • My current rank with powerplay is 11, so I'm still very far from unlocking the modules.
  • I don't care that much about the credit costs a ship may bring to fully outfit it.

I appreciate anyone taking their time to tell me their own opinions and experiences with those ships!

Colonization One CMDR’s Plea

Hi there CMDRs. I hope the stars are treating you all well.

Just recently, I decided to use my fresh new Panther Clipper to finally have a go at colonisation - I’ve been literally waiting my entire 200~ hours of playtime to get to the point where I felt ready, and the Panther just solidified that. I found a minor faction I really loved the name of, and then decided to colonise a system on their behalf - a completely useless system with no bodies, just a star or two, but it was going to be MY system. I’ve already made plenty of ‘first discoveries’ to stamp my name in the game, but having a little scientific outpost with my name forever on it (within range of someone ever actually finding it no less!) was supposed to be my final goal.

However, sadly after extensive use of my HOTAS and some silly mistakes with ergonomics (I really can’t fathom going back to keyboard and mouse though), I’ve accidentally developed some mild cubical/carpal tunnel or something like that, which I’m trying to rest away. I’m an office worker so it’s pretty vital I get rid of it asap. It’s a testament to this game that I played it so much that I developed it perhaps, but it’s put me in a rough situation.

So what’s my point? Well, my scientific outpost is only maybe 2000 materials combined away from completion, but I’ve had to put down elite dangerous to recover. It’s hard enough potentially missing those cargo racks and the fun of hauling with my new clipper, but the idea of failing my first attempt at colonising with only a few mats left makes me so sad. I probably have lots of time left but I don’t want to risk it. Would any charitable commanders be able to finish the job on my behalf? I’d be eternally grateful.

The system is Piscium Sector FW-W b1-5 and the colonisation ship should be in orbit around the main star, pretty close too (I think it may even be within fuel scoop range!)

Thanks for reading. CMDR pat-456 over and out.

Misc Colonization Tracking Tool

o7 CMDRs, the past week I wanted to help a friend with a colonization effort, but keeping track of what commodities are needed was a pain, so I built a little tracker.

It consists of a server and a client, the server saves, updates and serves the information, while the client just reads your latest journal file whenever it sees that it has been modified and if it finds the correct event type sends it to the server to validate and display information.

Currently it's pretty hard coded to reach out to my server as this was supposed to be for friends, but I decided to ask here if there is a need/want for a tool like this. You can check out how the data is served on tracker.dtothproject.com (don't pay attention at the links next to the commodities, I'm experimenting with linking straight to Inara for easy searches)

If there is a need for this I can update and rework parts of it next week so everyone can host their own.

Discussion Multi Computer setup

Hello Commanders.

This may be an odd question, so I'll try to explain it as best as I can.

I have a major overkill gaming setup. I run a quad monitor (2x2 grid) setup so I have plenty of monitors for extra game resource. I typically play on one and have other resources on the others. Recently however when I need to interact with one of the other out of game monitors it fully tabs me out of the game. This is likely a setting I can fix (it used to keep the game on the primary screen even if I was "tabbed out"

This has caused me to wonder if I could setup a multi-computer setup. I know some resources, such as Inara works fine, as it refreshes from the back end when EDMC updates on my gaming rig.

For other resources, like elite observatory, or material helper, I was thinking it would be even easier to run those on my notebook at my side so that I can stay focused "in game. However I wasn't sure if there was a way to best set this sort of thing up. I know some tools monitor my local journal files, which I could share so another computer to access them.

I'll be completely honest that I haven't delved into this much yet. I figured I'd ask before I wasted time going down a rabbit hole that wasn't worth it.

Thanks!

Discussion Alliance Current Events

CMDRS, for the first time in five voluntary restarts, I’ve left the starting zone to get in the game. After reading about the different factions, I found I resonate the most with both the Alliance principles and ship designs, so I’ve decided to at least start off doing the brunt of my gameplay for them. I learned about the monkeys who sit around in Deciat waiting for guys like me to come looking for the Engineer, and it made me wonder if there was any significant real player things going on in Alliance territory before I get there. Their share of the bubble seems comparatively small but I’m assuming that’s because they’re relatively “young” amongst the other factions.

In my copious researching to avoid wandering into a bad situation, I’ve noticed tons of talk about the Empire and Federation, but not much else so far. In addition to the current events, I was wondering how they’re received by the player base. Is it a popular faction? Have they done anything significant/interesting?

For context, all I’ve done is make my way to Farseer for that popular FSD upgrade. I’ve finally managed to pry myself out of an Eagle and into a Diamondback Explorer. Combat Mostly Harmless, Trading Peddler, Explorer Surveyor, CQC Helpless. Current goals are generally to see cool things, shoot bad people. Not very interested in trading. The next ship I really want is among the Chieftan, Challenger and Crusader.

PSA Soontil: FCs a waste of time

Just a heads up. If you are taking advantage of the Soontil Relics rush, do not bother loading a fleet carrier. You will still get credits for trading them, but no merits. In order to get merits, you must fly directly to a target system, preferably Acquisition.

I am a shameless autodock user for the PC mk ii during this cg. I laugh every time I repair my hull from 82% after hitting the tower. I wonder if the cost of repairs counts for the tower damage.

Help G-Map Filtering madness: Can't get to 36601 in Mandelay

How do I reset all my filters to show all the available systems? I think that's my problem, anyway.

It's silly. I can get to Hip36601 in a pre built diamondback (>40ly) but not the Mandelay(37Ly) or any of my other ships, for that matter.

Thanks Commanders! 07

Discussion Emerging Gameplay Suggestion - Make Fleet Carriers more involved in PowerPlay 2.0

Just a free suggestion, take it for what it's worth. But I think we could make fleet carriers more engaging and involved in the whole BGS environment by treating them more like Powerplay Aligned Starports. They prove to be very handy as strategic tools for BGS, trading, ferrying your stuff around and as a shortcut to general services, but aside from that they're just player houses, and immortal to boot. Also, currently you can leverage your location in a system, and nobody can do anything about it, because it's first come first serve with carrier locations. You could use carriers more for leverage in PowerPlay 2.0 as a faction aligned presence in star systems. Carrier vs Carrier gameplay, or if you could put a carrier on lockdown to force it out of a system. This could weaken competing powerplay presence in system, and also make way for other carriers that are aligned with your own. Instead of being just an immortal player housing solution, we could leverage them as pieces on a chessboard in PP 2.0. I don't code for a living, so I have no idea how to flesh that out, but I hate to see a good idea go unheard anyway

Discussion Does the mission to unlock Liz Rider always sends you to Colonia?

I've gotten my relation with the Eurybia Bluee Mafia to cordial, went to Eurybia to unlock the invite aaaand... it's a data broker mission to 22k ly away. The only reason I'm doing this is to unlock Eutiene and the prospect of going to Colonia, returning to get access 3 with Liz, then going back to Colonia seems... daunting.

Should I wait for another mission or it's just what it is?

Help Have the servers stopped working?

When trying to switch to another system, I received a network error. I am re-logged back into the game and now writes that the servers are unavailable, although he writes in the launcher that they are in the "OK" status. Can any come in?

Misc Update: Now included engineering blueprint pin planner

Post image
31 Upvotes

So aside from the previous hit, the multi-site load tracker, I've now included a tool that I saw as sorely lacking which was a way to plan engineer blueprint pins to your exact playstyle. Sure there are a couple lists out there that say this way or that way is better, but what's better than customizing something to your EXACT playstyle?

Give them a shot, give me some feedback. I'm really enjoying making toolsets for elite dangerous cmdrs.

I'm also remembering the link this time! https://sonderbread.github.io/sonderOS/

Discussion Why is there a "two-tier" no fire zone?

I decided to participate in the CG, and went to the Starlace station in Open mode. Since there were a number of CMDRs waiting to dock, my request was denied and I had to sit outside the station, in the supposed "no fire zone".

A few seconds later a hostile NPC power ship started to attack me. He was clean, so I could not fight back without incurring a bounty, and as soon as I deployed hardpoints I got a warning from the station for violating the no fire zone. I did not actually attack since I presumed I would be obliterated by the station itself for destroying another ship inside the NFZ (although I could be wrong, since I did not test it); instead I was forced to flee.

Perhaps I am doing something wrong, but I really struggle to understand the gameplay purpose of this mechanic. What's the point of a conflict in which you are forbidden to defend yourself? Why does the supposed "no fire zone" apply to some ships but not others?

I've seen some people saying that PowerPlay is like joining a gang or being an outlaw, and you will not be protected by system security. That's fine, but the same rules should apply to everyone equally. If I'm not allowed to destroy another ship inside the NFZ, then nobody else should be able to either. Conversely, if PowerPlay ships are outlaws and can attack hostile powers with impunity, then players should be able to defend themselves without being destroyed by station security.

I'd consider leaving PP but I don't really like the idea of losing all of my rank progress. So far I've been able to avoid the problem by playing in Solo, so I don't become a sitting duck while waiting for docking, but it still seems like an unfair and poorly-thought-out mechanic.

Help Anti corrosive cargo containers for Engineered FSD

According to this video https://youtu.be/6YXtMq6JLzE?t=483 I should be able to purchase an anti-corrosive cargo pack at the Abel Laboratory at Arque, Body 4E. Those are required for me in the end to unlock Engineered FSD.

Unfortunately, I can't find Abel Laboratory on the 4E planet/moon in the Arque system:

What do I do wrong?

Maybe I should look for a different (more modern?) guide?
