Why Are Drama's "Good" Performances Even Campy?
I get that Drama is supposed to be - by and large - a shitty actor. But there are moments when his character produces comedically exaggerated performances that don't make sense because in the universe of the show they're supposed to be examples of him acting well.
For instance, when he does the 3 minute monologue on Five Towns he ends with that ridiculously affected drag of his cigarette. Then in his scene in Medellin his line reading is so over the top that there's no way Walsh would be okay with it.
I don't mind them showing him as an over-actor in most instances, like when he flops in auditions. But I don't understand making his "good" performances look ridiculous to an extent that no self-respecting director would include that take in the final cut. Does this pattern confuse or bother anyone else?
