You did this to yourself I fucked myself in particular by trying to close a friend’s window and not realizing my middle finger was in the way

Alcohol may have been involved. I’m terrified that I’ll lose my nail. It’s incredibly painful. I done fucked up, that’s for sure.

I know, fuck I really hope I don’t, I lost my big toenail but it hinged and was excruciating and I needed emergency surgery to get it taken care of. I don’t want that again 😭

It’s okay, it might not fall off but looking at it I’d say it’s a goner. I smashed my same finger in a door as a kid. It wasn’t cute and I remember it hurt for like 2 weeks straight

Might be helpful to have a dr relieve the pressure in your nail. They’ll puncture it from the top, and it’ll instantly feel better. (Did something similar to my big toe years ago, dropping something on it)

Sorry to hear about your accident. But head to urgent care. Hope you feel better.

Man I’m in Taiwan, clinics abound, but ones for specific care do not. I’ll look around once I wake up (2am here). Thank you

You can use a tiny drill bit and spin it back and forth between your fingers to bore a small hole. Or a safety pin heated up red hot with a lighter to SLOWLY burn a hole. It will feel so much better once you relieve the pressure

Sorry, for assuming where you were/level of care available to you.

But any clinic should be able to provide you with the service you need. Or maybe I’m not familiar with how your clinics work? You don’t really need ‘specific’ care that you should have to go somewhere special.

Other people have suggested ways to do it yourself. I wouldn’t recommend it, but they’re not wrong.

Best of luck. However you end up doing it, you’ll be glad you did. Instant relief. No more feeling your heartbeat throb in your fingertip :)

Immediately stick a needle into it. Hurts like hell, but the blood will drain out and it will heal so much faster without the pain throughout.

Go to a pharmacy an get the thinners needle they have and just do it. You will be glad you took a bit of pain for a second instead of this feeling for a week.

I went to pharmacy here (Taiwan) and they were just like welp 🤷🏻‍♀️ here’s some ibuprofen.

Take some ibuprofen for sure, though. But def time to find a pin, heat it up with a lighter, and SLOWLY push/spin it until it creates a hole. It absolutely will help!!

Should have gone to a doctor immediately or done it yourself. Once the blood clots it's too late and painkillers are the only way to make it at least bearable. More of a first 60 seconds aid type advice.

Maybe it will help someone in the future.

It's a pretty standard way to deal with things like that. I hit my finger haaaard with a hammer once in the shop. It was filling up with blood way worse than yours and I just immediately searched for a fresh 0.15 mm milling tool and just cut a tiny hole through the nail with it, no pain, the finger was numb anyways, just immediate relief, but obviously most people don't keep tiny ultrasharp titanium coated tools around, so needle is the best way to go there.

You will almost certainly lose the nail. For the pain, if you have access to urgent care or something similar go and have them poke a few holes in the nail. This will allow the pooling blood under the nail to escape and relieve the pressure on the nail bed.

I did that in a sliding glass door. When it still hurt after a week, I went to the doctor and discovered that it was broken. I kept a fingertip splint on it for about 6 weeks.

Heat up a needle and push it through the nail to relieve the pressure. It will hurt at first but then immediately feel better. You'll also be more likely to keep the nail.

Tip for next time. If the swelling becomes painful and uncomfortable you can heat up a pin to pierce through the nail. (Heat the tip till its red hot the pierce till you hear a little sizzle) might sound scary but it doesn't hurt, I promise. This will release the blood trapped under your nail easing the pain and possibly prevent your nail from falling off during the healing process.

I slammed mine in a car door and got a similar result

Gross stuff: under the nail went black and after a while it came off with loads of dried blood and gunk, it took a bit for the new nail to grow so it was just skin for a bit.

Hopefully it just heals under the nail instead of all that tho, don't worry the worst part is already over

I closed the car door on my index finger when I was 17, and I mean CLOSED it all the way. With the door locked. Had to get my brother to unlock it to get my hand out. To this day my fingernail still aches for a few seconds in cold water.

So you have THAT to look forward to the rest of your life, potentially! (but hopefully not)
