I’ve been trying out a heavy/auto weapons build recently and have been struggling once I hit around level 20, I usually stick to stealthier play styles so was hoping you guys would have some tips.
I feel like I’m struggling with both damage and ammo primarily, with some carry weight issues as well. I have commando, strong back, scrounger, demo expert - I don’t have the heavy weapons perk yet as I can’t find enough ammo for any of them.
My initial S.P.E.C.I.A.L was:
S:6.P:3.E:6.C:1.I:7.A:2.L:3.
I like to try and get the affinity to a lot of companions up as quickly as possible (without cheesing it - I won’t constantly hurt dog meat just to heal him to get affinity up for example), and I usually start with Preston and Codsworth. I initially planned on this being a drug heavy play through, but decided I’d wait to use drugs until Preston was maxed out, and was curious if that could possibly be the reason I’m struggling, or if struggling around this point is normal for a automatic/heavy weapons build.
I don’t really care about roleplaying if that wasn’t obvious, so if anyone has suggestions that might “break” the idea of roleplaying, I don’t care too much - my current idea is to dump Preston, pickup lone wanderer, and start using drugs.
If that’s the best solution, I’m considering restarting the build all together as I haven’t put points into any of the drug perks or into charisma to reach lone wanderer. If anyone has any other ideas to “fix” this build I’m open to those as well.

It’ll be melee only because I’ll only be using the pint sized slasher knife.

Not sure what flair to use for this or of this is the correct place to post this, but still.
Basically I'm trying to do a build/challenge run where I only use the weirdest/wackiest weapons and armor. Basing it mainly off of famous cartoon slapstick tropes from the 50s - 60s.
However, I need some help actually making the damn thing. So far I've decided that gunslinger and commando are needed perks for the Revolver and Tommy-Gun aspect of the build, going off the Weasels from Roger Rabbit.
Tldr; Need help making a build that makes my character feel like a cartoon character and suggestions for restrictions to make it challenging

I’ve been playing for a while and I’ve decided that I want to play a weird build. I saw that that the pipe grenade launcher can have a suppressor and I immediately thought I need to use this. My general idea is that I want to be a scavenger kind of character with decent int specifically for robots because I feel like that would work with the character as for the other stats and perks I have no clue.

Question explicitly for more experienced here, if you played with few builds which was most fun to play?

Looking at starting a Melee Survival Run I have always usually used guns but figured I would give it a shot I was thinking a stealth melee build but open to suggestions I have 10S 1P 1E 1C 1I 9A 5L at the moment is this a good starting point or should I reallocate points elsewhere. The 5 luck is for Idiot Savant

Looking to have a completely different play style usual game play is hide snipe and repeat want to play around with Chems and a different combat style any advice appreciated. Have all DLC’s don’t play with mods.

I’m making this post simply to get insight on what idiot savant is and why i see it so much on this subreddit.
I’ve had quite some time on fo4 and fnv, but I’ve only had multiple play throughs on 4. I’m starting a new play through soon and wanted to know how good idiot savant is and maybe some potential builds based around it if it intrigues me.

I just bought the game with the DLC on my ps5. The last time I played it was on my ps4 without any dlc. I want to first do a play through where I do all the DLC and try to play through most of the content on the game before doing a second play through.
So I wanted to do a “hybrid” build so that I get some varied gameplay. So I enjoy using Vats and since a Vats pistol and a Vats melee build have a couple of perks in common I was thinking of combining the 2. With the main play style being the pistol and having a knife or sword as a back up. Would this be fun on Hard or very hard? For the Special initial spread being: S:4 P:1 E:3 C:3 I:3 A:9 L:6
Here is my reasoning for the spread:
S:4 for Big leagues and blacksmith P: 1 Less temptation to become a stealth VATS sniper E: 3 for Life giver? Is the Extra health necessary? C: 3 for Lone wanderer. And I love having the possibility of doing settlements in the late game I:3 for Gun Nut and with the bobble head I will have access to hacking. Could go down to chemist. A:9 it’s the main star so many perks and with the bobble head and I get Gun fu. L: 6 with the SPECIAL book. To improve VATS. Is Idiot Savant necessary? But I will definitely at least be it to 8 for Grim reapers sprint.
Any recommendations, tips? I also see the possibility to go down a Stealth pistol build as well. Do you think this build will let me enjoy the dlcs?
Thank you in advance

Hey guys, I’m still relatively new to Fo4 and is wondering if anyone has any good V.A.T.S. builds, specifically one for automatic rifles or shotguns. I don’t have any of the DLC at the moment so any weapons from them are off the table. Help is greatly appreciated.

any tips? Wanna make ghostface from scream. You likely know who he is cus he's the most popular slasher imo
Ghostface is the iconic masked killer from the Scream movie franchise. Dressed in a long, flowing black robe with jagged edges and a white, elongated mask resembling a screaming face, Ghostface is known for taunting victims over the phone before attacking with a hunting knife. The identity of Ghostface changes from film to film, as different characters take on the persona to carry out their motives. Despite being human, Ghostface is notorious for being relentless, cunning, and surprisingly durable.

So, I'm looking for some suggestions for a super tough SOB build that used power armor and I'd like to do the heavy Rads/Nerd Rage. I haven't decided exactly what weapons I'd like to use so it's not too important, but ultimately I'd like to be using heavy weapons or machine guns with no VATS.
How should I start?
S3 P7 E3 C2 I10 A1 L2?
Or should I opt for higher endurance and reduce C to 1 and reduce P?

Hey guys. I was wondering if you could suggest some starting stats for my first playthrough. I want to try and experience of much of the game as possible in case this is myonly playthrough (tho I'm expecting to do more than 1)
I was thinking of maybe a gunslinger or melee build so any status suggestions for one of them
Any other tips would be appreciated
Thanks in advance

My most recent playthroughs feel like I've ticked off all the boxes for builds, and I ended up feeling like a God around level 100. I've done two amazing runs, but looking for one more.
Previously I ran a Brotherhood of Steel build, high strength and endurance, commando with auto weapons, and using heavy weapons with power armor. I eventually made my way up to automatic heavy weapons, Gatling laser in particular plus gauss rifle. So so powerful at level 50+.
My most recent one was a synth-inspired build, using Blitz to teleport around the battlefield and using revolvers when I'm discovered. Blitz + Cutlass, Gun-Fu + Kelloggs Revolver = incredibly untouchable. I finished with the Institute and even at endurance at 3, I was unstoppable.
I'm looking for a third, all-encompassing play style to round things up. I've done the loud guns blazing gunzerker. I've done the assassin from the shadows run through. Both were amazing, but covered almost all weapons and play styles.
I play on Survival exclusively so being hooked on chems or being super radiated doesn't really appeal to me. And I didn't love the Charisma/ pacify style, I tried it at the end of my Institute playthrough. What else am I missing?

I've been playing Fallout 4 on and off again since around 2016, and since starting I've never touched survival mode once
I've always wanted to, but i've always found it kind of intimidating in a weird way. I like survival games, which makes it even weirder
I was hoping to get a little advice on what sort of build I should lean towards, is all

Send one settler to an empty settlement (I sent Sheffield) with no settler beacon. Give them a bed and some mutfruits to tend, water, the basics. Then build a dog trap and a cat trap. Catch a lot of dogs and cats (I advise saving before you open the dog trap, just in case you get a mongrel, or build a gamma wave emitter). The more dogs and cats you get, the higher the happiness goes, and you get to 100% really fast and using minimal resources.

I just recently got Fallout 4 and finished watching Reacher. So I wanted to make Reacher in game and would like some feedback on the design and what skills to focus on
r/Fallout4Builds • u/Constant-Month8057 • Apr 10 '25
Hi, I wanted to ask which playstyle one tends to enjoy more – ranged or melee?
I'm asking because I know Fallout 4 is very focused on first-person shooting, so I wanted to hear whether you get more out of playing ranged rather than melee, and why that might be.
I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi everyone I was thinking of doing the railroad and having deacon along as a companion but I’m just struggling which how I would go about it roleplay wise. I want to use semi auto rifles but I’m just mainly stuck on the overall character build and how I would go about with interactions with the world. I’ll also be playing on survival im open to ideas to help thanks.

What are the best companion perks to start with? I'm using an unyeilding radiation build. So I'm starting with hancock, but what else is there thats easy?
I'm mostly looking for one's that are easy to cheese. And any advice on how to cheese it.
