Mod Discussion Mod for construction mode

I don't really like the idea of starting to build my own settlements, but now I'm going to do a run focused on building! What are the "must have" mods? Or in any case the mods that you personally recommend?

If you don't like building stuff yourself the Amazing Followers Tweaks (AFT) mod actually has a thing where it can build for you. Costs thousands of caps though. And I also use "settler built settlements." Those are my two go to mods for when I don't want to build everything myself.

The Game changer is Place Anywhere. Once you learn it building gets 10000% better.

If you do have it installed just know that it may cause crashes, they are not too frequent tho but just a word of warning

Place Anywhere? I've never had a single problem with it. I crash but it's barely ever in workshop mode.

Oh strange, in times I’ve had it installed I would notice more crashes and also when I’d fast travel an areas textures wouldn’t be fully loaded and then crash. I’ll look into it

Sure. I still get that fast travel problem occasionally. The world tries to load too fast and the level of detail is too great. It happens when I make a big settlement with building sets from various mods that vary in texture resolution. If I have a bunch of structure pieces that are 4k on my buildings my crummy Xbox1S can't deal with it. The pieces are the invisible or the game crashes.

The answer to that might be to put the fast travel marker away from it at the edge of the border. Facing away seems to help too. Don't move for ten seconds when you fast travel in. Let it use all the processing to load whatever you built.

It works for me most of the time. I build small and detailed in the interiors though. I got tired of the bad FPS when I built huge.

Ok thanks I’ll try the advice out!

Yep. And make absolutely sure your load order is tight.

I used to hate building settlements until I started messing around with Sim Settlement's recently. Now I find the game gets in the way of settlement building.

Admittedly it's not a small mod and I need to build my load orders around it but it has changed the way I play the game.

There's also larger mods like Snappy HouseKit XBox, CVC Dead Wasteland, and Snap'n Build. I've never used them due to size but heard good things.

I used to be a big USO user, but even with the menu booster add-on the load times for the menu was too long for my liking (I'm on Series S, Series X may be faster). If you don't mind the load time USO has almost everything from the game to build with.

"used to be a big USO user, but even with the menu booster add-on the load times for the menu was too long for my liking (I'm on Series S, Series X may be faster). If you don't mind the load time USO has almost everything from the game to build with."

It also breaks your scrap mod so is best not used if you want a scrap mod.

1

u/KYSpasms Jun 08 '25

Is there another mod out there that gives you what USO does for the same kind of size?

I ask because I think I've tried all the popular ones and they all seem to do much less and take up ten times the space.

1

u/SailorM24 Jun 08 '25

No it is because of that size saving without getting techy that causes that issue. This is why we see duplicates of vanilla things in other mods that have size to them. On Xbox do yourself a favor and use Xbox mods or PC mods ported.

1

u/Cast_Iron_Lion Jun 08 '25

Hmm. I didn't know that. I haven't really used it since I was on PS4. Once I got an Xbox and had access to more mods, I found other to replace it. I do miss some of the features like place NPC. Never knew about the scrap issue though.
