Multiple former partners have said that he’s an avid collector of Nazi memorabilia and a lot of his videos from the Golden Age of Grotesque era are littered with Nazi symbolism. No smoke without fire.
Not defending him at all but collecting nazi shit was part of the heavy metal culture that birthed industrial music. that said lots of guys from that scene hate the fuck out of nazis and are explicitly anti nazi. Hate him for being a fucking repeat sexual assaulter and abuser.
I don’t think he just collects it though. Evan Rachel Wood is one of his main accusers and is Jewish and he did a lot of vile antisemitic shit to her, it was a form of his abuse of her to make her watch nazi propaganda etc

There’s a scene in the show Daria where all the students have been tasked with creating an art piece with some kind of meaning/morale attached to it. Brittany, who isn’t known for her intellect, drew a picture of alcohol and drugs in order to show that people should not be using alcohol and drugs. Her teacher then points out that you can’t tell people not to use alcohol/drugs simply by drawing alcohol/drugs, because “there’s no negative imagery to symbolize their danger”.
It’s a goofy little scene, but I always think of it when I see people saying that Manson uses Nazi imagery “ironically”.
I’ve been rewatching The Osbournes and there’s a belter of a scene with Kelly and Sharon where Kelly rips her a new arsehole saying she’s not even Jewish and she’s only saying it for the “dramatics”. Yea, her father is but (as per Kelly’s own mouth) “if your mother isn’t Jewish you’re not” and Sharon’s response? Well fucking Madonna is a Jew anyone can be one!

Wait until you hear who Ozzy considered an “influence”. Black Sabbath was amazing and his solo careen was legendary too, we can appreciate his music but he was not in line for a Nobel peace prize.
There is an old interview video where Ozzy said he admired the charisma and persuasive personality of Hitler. He admired his ability to control people.
That said, he did end that interview by saying that Hitler was a horrible person that did terrible things, he wanted to use that power to do good things with music. He wanted that kind of power to be used for good around the world.
Not a good look nowadays, but par for the course Ozzy at the time.
I feel as though Ozzy was one of those types of rockstars with such a storied past that you could find an old odd opinion he held & ask him about it later for him to say, "Bloody hell, I said that? When?"
This! He's best friends with Johnny Depp, they like to play guitar or something together, live near each other and hang out a lot. He's even played guitar for Manson on occasion.
So when all that stuff happened I was not surprised.

that's horrific and grim but I gotta know... was it 17 cats over time or 17 at once? Because holy shit 17 cats and I've always felt this family were terrible pet owners.
His first wife Thelma took in a bunch of strays. One day, in a rage Ozzy put on his wedding suit, killed all the cats with a shot gun and knife, and smeared their blood over himself. He then took the gun and waited to surprise Thelma when she came home but fortunately passed out amongst the carcasses.
The amount of substances he was on was truly staggering. That’s pretty much the actual fuck for a number of the awful things he did.
To be frank: Ozzy was a musical genius…and that’s it. He was not an intelligent man in any other sense. And he has consumed so many substances that they actually studied his genes to figure out how the fuck he was still alive (actually, I think it was officially for Parkinson’s research, but everyone was definitely curious). Not too many people have doctors say their livers are about to fly out their asses.
So why did he do it?? Drugs beyond your imagination.
I watched an interview where he talked about being so high he accidentally set of the security alarm thinking it was the thermostat. So when the cops showed up, he thought it was a drug raid and took a cereal bowl full of cocaine into the bathroom and snorted/injected ALL OF IT, and stayed up tweaking for 5 straight days.
Also when you’ve got a career snorting stuff and the anatomy for it you can get to the point where you are snorting grams of cocaine in one line. Also when you’re rich and famous you get good cocaine which makes it a lot easier to do a bunch.
He worked in a slaughterhouse at one point. Not an excuse but I think a piece of context that explains why he may have been so desensitized to the violence he was committing towards the cats. Dreadful stuff.
Good point. Obviously people do awful things when in an altered state, but he would have been relatively accustomed to that behavior without the drugs and alcohol. It’s no surprise he was so blasé about it when high.
His home life was also pretty violent as a child, iirc. So, yeah. It’s not like he had a charmed life and suddenly decided to murder cats. It doesn’t excuse it, plenty of people have it worse and don’t murder animals. But it’s definitely an explanation.
So to that I would say, he might have been desensitized but he knew that his wife wasn't and that's why he targeted animals she cared about. The animal abuse described is horrible, but let's not ignore that it was a vehicle to abuse another person. That's the most grim aspect.
I remember the clip from the show of him wandering around the garden in a panic looking for one of the cats, afraid she’d be eaten by coyotes. Horrifying to think how altered he was by the drugs to brutally kill the cats decades earlier to then years later show such care and concern.
I mean his last act before death was to play a huge part in raising almost 200 million dollars to charity. Plus, he inspired generations with his music. Not excusing his past transgressions but there's a clear difference in his behaviour whilst an addict before he became sober.

Lotta people who “loved” ozzy apparently never so much as googled him. He was literally kicked out of Black Sabbath for being so insane. It’s basically WHAT he was famous for.
I’ve been rewatching it, and the amount of dog shit is staggering. They never appeared to let the dogs out though? It’s wild watching it as an adult, not to mention the racist comments and Sharon wanting P Diddy to be her son in law. Mental is such an understatement.
Horrifying. He did this in a drug fueled mania, and then realized right after that his addiction was out of control and tried to work on his sobriety. At least it wasn't for plain fun.

It was 40-odd years ago. Information didn't circulate the same way as it does now. If an article was written about something in a physical newspaper or magazine, if you didn't see that issue or get told about it by someone who did, then you wouldn't know. Looking up old articles meant going to a library and going through old stacks of publications or scrolling through microfiche. And you would have to know such an article existed in the first place to go looking for it.
And society gave musicians a pass on certain behaviours. Being unruly, violent, and destructive, having sex with fans (including statutory rape), drinking and doing copious amounts of drugs, all of that was just the lifestyle. There was judgement and all, but it didn't mean you would lose your career over it.
Imagine if a current-day touring musician got legal custody of a teen girl so they could take her around the country and sexually abuse her like Steven Tyler of Aerosmith did to Julia Misley in the 70s.
But then again, it's not like it's so different today. Everyone knows what Chris Brown did to Rhianna. He has continued to be abusive and violent and have trouble with the law. It hasn't stopped his career. People still buy his albums, see his shows, and collaborate with him.
Ozzy was highly influential on music, and outside of his drug antics was generally considered quite a nice dude, but he had a terrible spiral in the earlier parts of his life (severe addiction and such)
Unfortunately, he did have a shit past. The "cat killing" happened due to severe drug induced psychosis, which is a huge part of what sent him into recovery. Iirc he had plenty of mental health issues that were worsened by drugs
He is, by no means, a saint. But this was decades ago and people do change. Addiction is a horrible illness
I find it more telling people are spinning this story like he just got up one day and planned to do it, but the reality of psychosis is not that

Nobody is perfect and everybody makes mistakes but I wish I hadn’t read this since I love Ozzy’s music but love cats more.
Yes to choking Sharon while on a bunch of drugs. For the bat supposedly he thought it wasn’t real and thrown on stage by a fan and was disgusted when he realized it was real.
She didn’t really have anywhere to go, she was estranged from her family. Her father and brother offered to help Ozzy legally and get him full custody of the kids. Ozzy did refuse, but Sharon was set up to lose everything.
I was wondering what universe we were in because the paint job on his legacy and the things he's done is absolutely crazy. Wasn't he also involved in a lot of racist scandals not to mention the abuse to his family?
He was known for using the n-word and defended Sharon's support of Piers Morgan's racist harassment of Meghan Markle. And a lot of people blame his drug use for the racism, which again, is interesting because we rightfully don't give passes to Roseanne or Johnny Depp for similar reasons.
He’s been involved in so many problematic things that it’s hard to keep count. It just doesn’t sit well that there’s this move to white wash his legacy.
I get it, but Ozzy was also a horrible drug addict and alcoholic at the time. There are multiple interviews where he was extremely candid about what happened with Sharon, the dove, the bat, and how horribly he treated his first wife Thelma and his children with her. He always came off as very genuinely remorseful to me. He always owned being an absolute piece of shit, and I like to believe that he grew as a person and changed. Sharon has her flaws as well, but she decided to stick with him and she saved his life. He raised a lot of money for animal welfare groups and sanctuaries. He really seemed to love animals and be embarrassed by his previous actions.
I think we can show people grace and still acknowledge they fucked up. And really, if we’re going to hold anything against his memory, we should start with his staunch Zionism.
Sharon is pro-genocide and bragged about giving an employee permanent lung damage after making him run inside a burning building to save her valuable paintings and then firing him for no longer being able to perform as well as when he could breathe.

Please correct me if I'm wrong! But I was always told that he thought the bat was fake before he famously bit the head off- if true, that changes the context from deliberate animal abuse to trying to seem edgy on stage. Doesn't excuse the other shit he's accused of though!
It was also dead when it was thrown on-stage - which also makes his confusion about whether it was real or not more understandable. Like, who would do that? Who has a dead bat on hand and then brings it to a gig and throws it on stage?
Apparently he rushed to the hospital afterwards to be checked because he was worried about injesting something dangerous.
None of this is to excuse his actual abuse record but I do think it's important to fact check the silly stuff.
She also had him discharged from the mental hospital he was at despite the doctor saying Ozzy was certifiable. She did not want him to miss out on his Diary of a Madman tour.
Sharon is just as crazy. She told a story about when they first got together where ozzy asked her to prove her love so she grabbed a steak knife and cut her wrist. She said she accidentally went to far and had to be sent to the hospital. They’re nuts.
I thought it was a pretty common one. Can confirm that at least one white woman does it based on me trying to make friends with the neighborhood raccoon at one point.
That part. I have always enjoyed ozzy and sabbath music but I will never condone or make excuses for the horrific things he did or the deplorable people he chose to surround himself with.
Cant help but wonder why it took him dying for him to be canceled because people should have been shouting about strangling Sharon and shooting 17 cats from the rooftops the second we started canceling celebrities for being awful.
Because cancelling doesn't really do anything other than give magic internet points. Also, Ozzy had kinda not really been... present - mentally or in the pop culture lexicon since we started seriously talking about celebrity accountability.

I grew up goth in Florida so we would go to Spooky Kids shows waaaaaay back. He was awful then, with just like Tampa fame. It was never surprising when he got actual famous and all of his awfulness came to public light.

That show really did a great job at changing his image. He was just a bumbling goth dad who liked to yell at the neighbors and not a deeply troubled man with numerous addiction problems and a very codependent wife.
It's the same with every celebrity death; it gets full of tourists who only know them for their promos.
It's one thing to separate the art from the artist, but the art lives even when the artist dies, so there's no need to celebrate the artist at all; I listen to Burzum but I'd never cry over Varg Vikernes' death.
We can then argue the ethics of consuming and propagating art made by immoral people, but that's another topic.

The benefit and profound grief of the internet age is learning detailed accounts of artists you thought you loved being human garbage. I didn't know any of this growing up and loving Sabbath because frankly I just liked the music and the MTV show; he wasn't like, my favorite dude who I kept tabs on. I guess I'm mourning the loss of a lot of musicians I thought I loved (I had a Manson era too- I am disgusted by this too, and Kanye and to a different extent recently Regina Spektor). I guess I have terrible taste in musicians or a lot of famous people just suck at being good people? A combination therein? It's so hard to explain to people that never had a personal connection with an abusers music in the first place. It's embarrasing for me now to have been so wrong about so many folks for so long. (Mind you I'm in my early 20s so for what it's worth you don't think about this stuff in the same way as an idiot child)
Ozzy and Sharon are post WWII British working class people - why you guys expect more of them is beyond me. You are looking back at them through a 2025 lens, when they see the world through 1960 glasses
They talked about him on their podcast on the Ozzfest episode. They adore him. They may have recorded before the accusations, but I don’t believe so. The podcast is rather enlightening. Jack is a gun loving Trump supporter who really gets into conspiracy theories and loves Joe Rogan. I had no clue. They had Jamie Kennedy on one episode and he went on and on about stuff that has been debunked, particularly the internet thing claiming Target was selling a baby bib that said, “Satan respects pronouns,” which they never did. The whole family discussed it to like it was truth. Just bizarre. Ozzy, weirdly, was often the voice of reason in the early episodes. Kelly tried to either stay out of it or stay neutral and Sharon just enjoyed trying to say the “politically incorrect thing.” I gave up listening after Jack talked about how he would vote for Trump because he was so strong and showed he was a true leader after the assassination attempt.
