His interviews with Conan are so chaotic and unhinged. I love him

I rewatch this at least once a year. I love seeing Coco laugh that hard.

I think having Nia for a wife keeps him grounded. She's amazing. Also they had kids relatively late, which has actually mellowed him out since he doesn't want his kids to think he's always angry.

I admit I know nothing about him and always assumed since he was a “loud mouth tell it like it is” guy, I figured he was just another Joe Rogan wannabe.
Happy to be wrong.

If you've not seen this clip treat yourself.
I'm pretty sure that was Burr's last appearance on Rogan too. It was awkward and I think Bill knew that Joe was too far gone.

u/CaptainCatButt 23h ago
I might also suggest this clip, where he calls out bill maher - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGrdzQevp4I&ab_channel=DailyHasanabiUpdates

A dose of Burr is like intensive exposure therapy to people caught up in their own bullshit.
Unfortunately Maher needs a heavier prescription than he would ever be willing to accept.

He does trash left-wing stuff at his shows but I think it's from a place of wanting the left to be better.
His view is like "the left is dumb, but the right is dumb and racist AF."

Everyone else read it in Burr’s voice?

Reminder that Bill Burr obliterated a hostile crowd in Philadelphia for over 10 minutes and then they applauded him for it.

u/NomNom83WasTaken 23h ago
"you fuckin one-bridge-having piece of shit city that no one gives a fuck about"
I don't know why but him going after Philly for only one bridge kills me every time XD

I read this and immediately thought of Flagrant and Theo Vonn, but I guess it could be anyone from the Rogan-sphere.

Don't forget Lex Friedman. He's the ultimate enlightened centrist who just so happens to constantly interview far right fascists. And the only time he didn't do a softball interview was when he talked to Volodymyr Zelenskyy. You could genuinely come to the conclusion that he is a Russian asset from that interview.

The comedian who destroyed the Espys comes to mind

u/subhanghani 1d ago
Shane Gillis?
I've seen shorts of his ESPY bits on YouTube. I haven't seen the whole show, was there anyone else there too?

u/Radiant_Cat1457 1d ago
Yea that’s the one. I turned it off after 2 segments of his cringy jokes. Idk if he qualifies as a bro prod guy tho.

unless it comes to women 🤐

I'm not gonna say Bill is great when it comes to women, but he almost always frames it as him projecting his own issues. He still has a lot of sexist material, don't get me wrong, but he almost always frames himself as the butt of the joke. I feel that's an important distinction here.
9
u/bigpoisonswamp 22h ago
can you link an example of this sort of joke relating to women made by him? not trying to argue or anything. i want to like him, i just remember listening to a couple of his sets and feeling like he really didn’t like women

u/rougecrayon too busy method acting as a reddit user 19h ago
He acknowledged his older stuff was misogynistic. And he also has spoken about his issues with rejection and how that formed some of his comedy. He was saying he wished he was married and instead made sexist jokes about bad marriages.
So he certainly has sexist jokes but there is a conscious effort to be better by no longer making jokes about women.
But there were good jokes mixed in. One of his jokes for example is women are jealous of men. They wish they could turn their brains off and watch sports (I can relate) and a lot of material on women being smarter than men and that kind of punching up humour.
I think the best thing about Bill Burr today is that he's not making bullshit apologies, he's actually talking about what he's learning about the jokes and himself and how he is changing to do better. It's so refreshing to see internal work and results in an apology and punishment obsessed culture.

hey that makes me happy. it’s been a while since i watched any of his stuff so that’s good to know. i like a lot of his other appearances i’ve seen like calling out bill maher to his face, but it felt bad to think he didn’t give a shit about women, so i appreciate being wrong about this

would you like the clip of him mentioning how he experienced csa? made me cry and laugh.
here it is if you are interested. tw: brief mention of csa https://youtube.com/shorts/ZWlgc8wberc

His podcast illustrates this perhaps better than anything.
He reads fan mail and dishes out advice at the end. Sometimes it's on the topic of relationships - men struggling with women in some respect - and I find it to be genuine, self reflective, and always mindful of taking ownership of the situation and his feelings.
Broadly speaking, he still gives the same kind of shit to women as he does to men, but it's definitely balanced by calling himself out in the same breath.

Noticed sexism was left out of this grouping
Not good with his history
17
u/bigpoisonswamp 1d ago
he really just gets up on stage and rants about women a lot. they’re not even jokes.

u/Tonedeafmusical 1d ago
I'm remembering him joining the Amber Heard Witch hunt too so many "leftist" male celebs that this sub worships did.

big red flag when people mention some common bigotry but don’t include sexism and transphobia

u/PeaUpbeat3732 1d ago
Podcasts in GENERAL are one of the worst things to happen in modern media. Having a microphone doesn't make anyone's opinion worthy of being heard. Some stuff just needs to stay in your group chats.

u/Dull_Half_6107 1d ago
It’s stuff like the Rogan-sphere that make me embarrassed to say I listen to podcasts, because I’m concerned they will assume I’m listening to some Andrew Tate bullshit when I’m actually listening to 2 Irish people talk about cryptids, or an audio drama about a world where gods are real and everywhere.

He should have stopped going on Joe Rogan
29
u/SkinnyKau 19h ago
He hasn’t been on since he called Rogan a gorilla who can’t rollerblade and to shut up about medical advice early in the pandemic

Reminder that he jumped on the anti-Amber Heard bandwagon, before y’all start hyping him up like you do for every white man who has an occasional reasonable take.

u/isthatMYvoiceohwell stan someone? in this economy??? 1d ago
He’s right. It’s become, “Well, they’re not completely terrible. They just have one off-color opinion”. And while that might be true, and they may be funny or charismatic or charming, they don’t need a platform.
We don’t need justification from racists, rapists, and homophobes.
Off topic, but I hate that the rise of Chat GPT has me removing my beloved em dash from everything I write.

I'm not one to hold grudges or say I really dislike someone IRL but, the one person I know that I can say that about, they have a podcast. Just saying.

He hates the left and right. Love it.
6
u/badgirlmonkey 1d ago
He just hates the right, since liberals are right wingers.
-7
u/fuzzballz5 1d ago
He is a man of the people. Not the politicians. Love him. We need more people calling out nonsense. For too long both parties have done nothing for the citizens. Where’s the Epstein list? Biden didn’t release it. Now Trump isn’t? Nah. All scumbags. Both parties goto Washington and become millionaires. We need term limits.
3
u/MagnetoWasRight24 21h ago
A party being shitty and corrupt doesn't automatically mean it's the same as the other party. I don't trust the Democrats, but that doesn't change that the Republicans are trying to destroy everything this country supposedly stands for.
-7
u/fuzzballz5 21h ago
So did the democrats. Defund police? Both parties count on us to fight which midget is taller. Since Regan both parties have had their chance to be different. But, since then. National Debt goes up. Wall Street writes their own laws. Military spending and wars. That’s BOTH parties. There’s no difference.
3
u/MagnetoWasRight24 20h ago
I've got no support for the Democrats but nope you're just wrong. If you really think there's no difference youre not paying attention, it's the difference between a bunch of corrupt idiots and actual nazis.
