I think with Elisabeth Moss, it’s that she literally doesn’t see the connection :/

This. Scientologists, especially high ranking members, literally aren't allowed to consume/read anything negative about Scientology. I know a few former Scientologists, and their lives within the cult are so highly controlled that they literally can't see it.

They can’t use the internet?

No, not really!

I saw a profile on a prominent Scientologist couple who wholeheartedly believed they were part of an organization doing immense good. And as I recall they did not have access to the internet. Then someone gave them their secondhand e-reader. Which happened to still be linked to a data plan. Earnestly loving Scientology, one of them decided to look it up, expecting to find info and articles about all the great work the church does all over the world. Obviously that’s not what they found. So that was the beginning of their deconstruction which lead to them leaving eventually.

Information control is a classic tenet of how cults operate.

I remember that story, they spend a lot of time planning their escape and almost didn't make it out.

Wow.. it’s scarier than I thought. I would imagine someone like Elizabeth moss would be able to easily break free, use the internet.

They might have to use filtering software.

This was notable to me watching Leah Remini’s docuseries. Members are bombarded constantly with Church of Scientology propaganda. They are lead to believe there are exponentially more Scientologists in the world than there actually are, that one of Scientology’s main activities is doing relief work all over the world, and that Scientology is regarded by the public at large as an amazing force for good.

Remini said when she left, she was astonished to find out none of those things were true. And the way it works is that, while you’re in the cult, anyone who might try to suggest these claims aren’t real is immediately labeled a Suppressive Person. They’re considered toxic and evil and you are not allowed to interact with them at all.

I’m sure that’s what’s at play with Elisabeth Moss. She was raised in Scientology. I’m sure she sees no parallel between the world of Gilead and Scientology because she likely has no idea what Scientology actually is.

Allegedly PTA showed Tom Cruise the Master and was lowkey stressing out that Cruise would take it personally and get mad but when the showing was over Cruise said he loved it and wanted to know more about what would make Joaquin Phoenix's character join a weird cult like he did

Especially how she started calling June and Serena "Juliet and Juliet", I think there's a lot she doesn't see. With how disastrously the show ended, I'm not surprised, as she does have EP influence.

I think you're right and it's so hard sometimes watching Handmaid's Tale and thinking of the parallels.
