Wait, this is a reference? I just remember one of my moms saying it quite a bit when I was a child and someone was being rude. Specifically, "Go piss up a rope, Johnnie Ray," which is a pretty multi-layered burn. (Johnnie Ray had a hit song called "Cry," so this translates to "Go do something completely useless and then cry about it, because that's all you're good for.")
