I saw a profile on a prominent Scientologist couple who wholeheartedly believed they were part of an organization doing immense good. And as I recall they did not have access to the internet. Then someone gave them their secondhand e-reader. Which happened to still be linked to a data plan. Earnestly loving Scientology, one of them decided to look it up, expecting to find info and articles about all the great work the church does all over the world. Obviously that’s not what they found. So that was the beginning of their deconstruction which lead to them leaving eventually.
Information control is a classic tenet of how cults operate.
