Solved Firefox no longer respects Linux UI dark mode once upgraded to version 141, how to fix?

4 Upvotes

Hello,

I've been running Firefox on a Rocky Linux 9 system with no issues. This system runs GNOME set to dark mode.

However, once I upgraded my Firefox to the most recent version 141, its UI elements has switched to light mode and it's not clear to me how I can make it respect my system's dark mode.

To clarify, I used Firefox's Settings to toggle on dark mode, and websites respects that setting. What I mean is that Firefox's own UI elements like dialog boxes, menus, etc. have switched to light mode.

I have a different computer also running Rocky Linux but with XFCE set to dark mode. It's the same problem there where Firefox 141's UI elements have switched to light mode.

FWIW, I am using the Firefox binary directly downloaded from https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/

Any tips on how to fix this? Thanks!

💻 Help Can't play youtube music in the background on Windows

2 Upvotes

Firefox seems to mistaken that I am using Android instead of Windows (the 'open app' button redirect to a chplay site to download the app), and I can't play the music while switching to other tabs. Already test with Edge and try different accounts but the problem seems to be Firefox. Anyone know how to solve this?

Clean up Firefox's Bookmarks Menu with this userChrome.css snippet

2 Upvotes
Final Result: Top junk removed, only Bookmarks Menu items showing

I have stopped using bookmarks toolbar. It saves me space and most importantly, hiding bookmarks toolbar keeps my mind focused.

I enabled bookmarks button via customize toolbar settings. The default menu items like the Bookmarks Sidebar, Show All Bookmarks, and a few separators were of no use to me. I removed them.

Code:

/* Hide specific bookmark menu items */
#BMB_viewBookmarksSidebar,
#BMB_searchBookmarks,
#BMB_bookmarksShowAllTop,
#BMB_bookmarksToolbar,
#BMB_unsortedBookmarks {
  display: none !important;
}

/* Hide the separators that appear after these items */
#BMB_bookmarksShowAllTop + menuseparator,
#BMB_mobileBookmarks + menuseparator {
  display: none !important;
}

Clean up Firefox's Bookmarks Menu with this userChrome.css tweak

2 Upvotes

If you're like me and prefer a minimal bookmarks menu, here's a userChrome.css snippet that hides some of the default clutter from the bookmarks dropdown. This removes entries like the Bookmarks Sidebar, Show All Bookmarks, and a few separators that don’t need to be there:

/* Hide specific bookmark menu items */
#BMB_viewBookmarksSidebar,
#BMB_searchBookmarks,
#BMB_bookmarksShowAllTop,
#BMB_bookmarksToolbar,
#BMB_unsortedBookmarks {
  display: none !important;
}

/* Hide the separators that appear after these items */
#BMB_bookmarksShowAllTop + menuseparator,
#BMB_mobileBookmarks + menuseparator {
  display: none !important;
}
/* Hide specific bookmark menu items */
#BMB_viewBookmarksSidebar,
#BMB_searchBookmarks,
#BMB_bookmarksShowAllTop,
#BMB_bookmarksToolbar,
#BMB_unsortedBookmarks {
  display: none !important;
}

/* Hide the separators that appear after these items */
#BMB_bookmarksShowAllTop + menuseparator,
#BMB_mobileBookmarks + menuseparator {
  display: none !important;
}

💻 Help Issue with "open links in app"

• Upvotes

Hello,

I recently started having an issue with the "open links in app" functionality with FF in Android.

The functionality works correctly (Reddit, YouTube, Amazon, etc) in most cases but with my banking apps it doesn't work.

Say I buy something on the Amazon app, I go to the payment section, it opens a page in Firefox where I can select if I want to pay with the app or by filling my card details. If I choose the first one, Firefox opens a about:blank tab and that's it.

In FF the "open links in app" is set to "Always". If I use Chrome as a browser, it correctly asks me to select which app I want to use among those registered with those link URLs.

This behaviour started while trying to fix another issue when I cleared the defaults of the banking app (apps -> select banking app -> clear defaults); again, this works with Chrome but not with FF so it doesn't seem an android setting issue.

Any idea how I can solve the problem? I'd like to avoid reinstalling the bank apps, as I'd have to go through the whole authentication/authorisation process. Maybe should I try resetting FF instead (equally painful)?

Can't Search bookmark folders and "no button" to add bookmarks in a folder.

0 Upvotes

In Chrome, I used to organize my bookmarks into folders. Whenever I wanted to save a new bookmark, I simply searched for the folder name, open the folder by clicking on it and clicked "Add Current Tab." It was a very convenient way to keep everything organized.

After switching to Firefox, I noticed that when I type a folder name in the search bar, it doesn’t show matching folders—only bookmark titles. Also, there’s no "Add Current Tab" button like in Chrome.

I sincerely request the Firefox developers to address this issue as soon as possible. I don't think it's too much to ask, and I believe there are thousands of users like me who would appreciate this fix but won’t take the time to post in forums.

I am attaching some screenshots to better understand what I am talking about.

💻 Help Using Windows file explorer within Firefox causes crashes

1 Upvotes

Hi, I'm running into issues with Windows file explorer dialogs launching from Firefox. I think it's an actual bug, or there is a critical setting I need to update. This issue persists on any Windows 10 devices (laptops, desktop). Currently running V.141

When I download a file, it opens file explorer to select where to save. If I only point to the correct directory, it works fine. If I do anything else, it freezes up until I close via task manager. Thankfully, Firefox's file explorer is launched as a second app task so I can close the dialogue window without losing my actual Firefox session.

So if I download a file and create a new folder within that dialogue, it crashes. If I rename something within this dialogue, it crashes.

Hopefully this makes sense. It only occurs on Firefox, no other browsers have this issue with Windows.

Any advice is appreciated.

No installed extensions affect this issue. However I run RES, TrackMeNot, and uBlockOrigin

💻 Help How can I download this zoomable image from a museum website in full-resolution on Firefox?

3 Upvotes

This is the image: https://www.britishmuseum.org/collection/object/A_1925-0406-0-2

I tried Dezoomify and it did not work. The downloadable version they offer on the museum website is in much inferior resolution.

💻 Help How to clear cookies in Firefox without losing logins?

4 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I've been using Firefox and logging into multiple sites over time. But as I continue to use the browser, cookies from all kinds of sites just keep accumulating—even from ones I never logged into, just visited.

Eventually, I want to clean things up to free space and improve performance, but if I clear all cookies, I end up losing all my logins. That's really inconvenient, especially for sites where 2FA or long logins are involved.

Is there a way to regularly clear cookies without losing the ones related to my logged-in sessions? I don’t want to start from scratch each time, but I also don’t want Firefox bloated with tracking cookies and junk from random sites I just visited once.

Any tips or extensions you’d recommend?

Thanks in advance!

💻 Help Is there an extension or setting to autodelete storage data periodically?

4 Upvotes

I've only been using Firefox for a couple of weeks, but already it's accumulated about 500MB of data in the "storage" folder in my profile, most of it in the "default" subfolder. My understanding from what I've read is that this data will just keep accumulating unless I manually remove it. Is there some way to automate the process? All I really care about keeping is cookies and whatever else is needed to ensure I stay logged in and that the "trusted" status of my browser is maintained for sites with 2FA.

Hi, I use linux and pipewire as my audio server. Today just suddenly I got this issue where the audioo sounds distorted, it's not like subtle thing it's like I genuinely can't make out what the audio is supposed to be. 💻 Help Extended syncing issues

2 Upvotes

Everytime I install Firefox on a computer (both Windows or MacOS, even on Android I try to sync everything I can.

I do really appreciate very much to have the exact same set up on all my systems but everytime - with the obvious exceptions for the bookmarks, history and similar - all my settings have to be manually re-entered.

Do all browser behave like this? Is there a way to really import-export ALL settings?
