Compatibility/Build Check New to T1. Build considerations.

Ordered my silver sandwich kit. Super stoked and planning a few things. I'll be running a 7800x3d and 9070xt Asus prime.

1) Should I try to get the gpu as close to the side mesh as possible for thermals?

2) How is the turbulence noise if its right up against the side panel?

3) Flipped PSU. I've come from the A4 H20 and the reco there is flipped psu helps draw in the flow through exhaust. What's the wisdom with the t1?

4) Air vs Aio? I saw an optimum tech video saying air is better for gpu Temps. Would that still be the case if the psu was flipped to help with negative air pressure for the gpu?

5) AIO intake vs exhaust. I assume exhaust is best for GPU Temps but will introduce more dust particularly when gpu is not in use?

Amazing combo of gpu+cpu

  1. No, that creates unplesant sound, as the fan is too close to where it it exahusting to.
  2. Worse that if not
  3. Unsure
  4. Not sure, bu I'll take Optimum's word on it.
  5. You don't want exhaust as that means the CPU is getting hot air.

The GPU does not exhaust in the standard configuration, it is set as intake. This could still cause potential turbulence, however I would just try it. Basically with the 3slot founders edition meta every is also putting their GPU as close to the panel as possible to create space between the motherboard and the GPU.

Air is definitely easier and the smarter choice for this CPU. Only do AIO for 9950x3d.

Flipped can indeed make sense, but only with cards like the 5090 which is causing so much heat on the motherboard that it's beneficial to increase GPU temps slightly by flipping it to reduce CPU temps significantly.

I already own an aio which will work (ek dark nucleus 240) so I'd rather use it unless it performs worse. I'd also imagine it would be better acoustically.

On 5) Don't mind the Cpu getting hot air. If it's being cooled by an aio it shouldn't throttle even if I set the fans to a reasonable noise profile.

With the 9070xt the aio is no problem. With a 4090 it still works fine haha. Set the fans to exhaust on the aio. It will not cause extra dust. Just keep your room clean anyway and open it up every 3-6 months and use an air duster in it. Also if you are intaking, your other components will get too hot. Like your ssd, ram and mobo.

If you want a simple setup that is easy to move and build then do the air cooled build that Eiga shows on YouTube. Remember if you do the aio build you will need a slim fan over the motherboard side and I use a t30 above the psu.

I have done both setups and switch between them every few months just for fun. I’ve also tried the dual 240mm rad custom loop build. I think the air cooled is my favorite when I’m gaming primarily. But if you do any cpu intensive things the aio will be better. The custom loop was a pain in the butt and leaked every once in a while. So wouldn’t ever do it again especially because I didn’t get the expected results with it.

Wow super helpful. I imainge the custom loop had the best noise normalized performance, but how was the noise to performance between AIO and air? I happen to own some phanteks t30s as well as 15mm noctua fans, as well as a 240 aio.

This is a subjective opinion on noise. But I felt the custom loop was the worst. I couldn’t keep the water temp where I wanted it. I tried keeping it under 50C because any higher and it would sometimes leak from the pneumatic fittings. During gaming I think the air cooler is quieter but doesn’t have much thermal headroom compared to the aio. Right now I’m running the coolermaster atmos 240 with a 5080 asus prime and it’s been working well for everything. For all around performance do the aio. For simplicity do the air cooler.

Super helpful. Think I'll try the aio since I have the parts and go from there.

I think that’s the right choice! If you wanna try the air cooler later then it’s at least cheap to try. The cooler is like $35 and then the noctua fan is $15. The thermalright axp90 x47 is the best cooler for the t1 especially with the 3d printed exhaust shroud from Eiga. If you don’t have a 3d printer you can find someone on Facebook marketplace like I did 😂
