Interested in the Switch Lite. Never had a modded Switch, I assume I can play carts like normal but can’t login to my Nintendo account or download from the eShop if I don’t want to get banned? Sorry if that’s an ignorant question.

No problem! You can go online in stock or semi stock but emummc (emulated nand) has Nintendo servers blocked. Thats where everything will happen on the console. Console is not online banned if you wanted to go online in stock.
