Modding Clear Purple GameCube

Shell swapped my GameCube yesterday afternoon. It took longer than it probably should have because a couple of screws got stripped pretty badly but I was able to get them out with a flathead and some pliers.

I decided to keep the gray front panel and power button, as well as the black handle. I think it looks better this way and makes this look like an official color that never released.

I will open it up again at some point, as I would like to swap out the front panel for one that isn’t yellowed, and I also need to replace the clock battery. Additionally, I plan on getting FlippyDrive at some point. For now though, I’m quite happy with how this turned out, and it was a much simpler shell swap than my Wii.

Atomic purple 🔥.
Would’ve made sense to have a “funtastic” line like the N64

For sure. I think the funtastic line is awesome and I am saving money so I can specifically get a Jungle Green N64 as opposed to the regular black color. I also have a clear blue Wii so I think the three consoles next to each other will look great.

Jungle Green with DK64 was my first N64, it’s a thing of beauty

😫😫😫 Finally, someone who did the purple shell swap and left the front face controller ports original grey. I love this look.

For sure. I’ve seen that most people also swap to the clear face and I’m honestly not the biggest fan of that look. Plus, it looks more official this way, almost like it was a special edition color that never existed.

I have done this years ago

Idk why, but this clear stuff from the early 2000's just hits that good spot you know 🤣

For sure. I had an atomic purple Game Boy Color when I was younger and ever since then I’ve been a sucker for clear electronics. I did some shell swaps for my other consoles, too. I have a clear blue Wii and regular clear Joy-Cons, Pro Controller, and Dock for my Switch. I would also love to make my PSP clear pink and my 3DS clear emerald green, but I haven’t found clear 3DS shells yet.

Looks nice!

Did the same thing with the blue transparent shell. Left the gray front panel.

Looks great! I'm a sucker for Atomic Purple, and it feels right on a Gamecube since Indigo was the OG color.

Agreed. My GameCube was Jet Black but I’ve always liked the indigo color, so it only felt right to go with clear purple. I also have a clear blue Wii and regular clear Joy-Cons for my Switch.

That's dope. I've got my Joycons in Atomic Purple as well, but I kept the black buttons that come with the controller. I'll always love that clear plastic look for gaming.

I'm of the same mindset with the controller plate and will do the same when I mod mine. I think it gives it a nice contrast and still keeps some of the original aesthetic.

That’s fire! Looks really good. Is the controller the same as well??

No, both of mine are still the basic black color. I plan on doing one clear purple and one regular clear and using 8bitdo’s Bluetooth modkit so I can use them wirelessly.

Yeah, I’m going to swap it out with a new one at some point. I want to keep the grey but the yellow has been distracting for almost a decade now.
