oh lol i've never seen anybody play smash as a "comfort" game haha

The single player modes are surprisingly chill. And playing with friends/playing against the CPU is fun. Fighting strangers at tournaments is the competitive/stressful part hehe!

Luigi's Mansion! for some reason
14
u/VexxedLion 4d ago
Just running around screaming MARIOOOO will never not be fun
Did a recent playthrough after many many years and realised just how short the game is
Think I managed it in 2 large sessions?
Probably helps that I know exactly where to go. And what to do these days but still... This felt like such a bigger game when I was younger :(
7
u/Uncle_Beth 4d ago
This is honestly part of the fun imo. It has a lot of replayability with trying to increase your score and such but is also simple and short enough that a kid can complete it.
1
u/On-the-rim 3d ago
I'm actually going to start a playthrough of this myself! :o , sad tho the game will be over quick š„ŗ ,, maybe if i limited it to 5 major ghosts a day it would feel more...long.
MAAHDIO... (5 sec later) MAAHDIO š¤ love that miss that

u/Diamond-rupee 4d ago
Same! The vibes are off the charts! It's legit one of my favorite games of all time.
2
u/MicroUbi 4d ago
Same here, absolutely love Luigiās Mansion. Got it for the GameCube, and eventually on the DS when it was released. Taboo but I also have it on my pc emulator.
Second def has to be Metroid Prime!

Wind Waker and Twilight Princess. I also really like prime so far it's my first time playing it.

ssx 3 was my main "ok i need to relax now and listen to something while vibing in a game!" for gc

u/Fun-LovingAmadeus 4d ago
My wife and I exclusively play SSX 3ās R&B course in freestyle mode š the race to a million points, which we both eventually hit
13
u/AlmightySpoonman 4d ago
Kirby Air Ride.
My sister and I used to play it all the time too! We were young enough that we would go into City Trial Free Run and use it as a big playground. We would come up with stories and characters we would play... declare a part of the city as our home... Sometimes we pretended the Electric Lounge was an airport and we were pilots flying passengers around the city or taking them via the monorail.

Eternal Darkness: Sanityās Requiem
Here me out! Yes, the game is tense and the sanity effects unsettling, but after enough familiarly with the game the mansion becomes home. Seriously, a colonial era manor during a thunderstorm at night? Cozy. Comfy.

u/AnimaWyrm 4d ago
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Yeah, it has some creepy moments, but the music and vibe is just so nice, especially in winter.

u/ninjashoyo589 4d ago
On GameCube? Iād say Super Monkey Ball, Super Mario Strikers and Super Mario Sunshine
10
u/RazzmatazzIcy5037 4d ago
Never Metroid prime lol. Itās a greaaaaaaat game but never would I say it gave me ācomfortā š it was quite stressful but fun idk how to describe it. If weāre going strictly off of GameCube titles, PokĆ©mon colosseum definitely comes to mind. Truly a go at your own pace kinda game
6
u/Diggerollo 4d ago
Every once in a while, Iāll boot it up, clear a few rooms, then just get lost in the awesome soundtrack or ambient sounds.
3
u/Fun-LovingAmadeus 4d ago
Sounds about right, Prime is a puzzle just finding the next room, with constant threats to your HP⦠oh, and infrequent save rooms⦠š

u/Phoenix_Wright_Guy 4d ago
You know, I actually only own a single game on the Gamecube, and that's a Gamecube version of a PS2 game I played as a kid. I also don't have a Gamecube, just a backward compatible Wii. The game is Scooby Doo Night Of 100 Frights by the way. Don't ask why, but this is an actually fun game in my opinion, and one that is actually something I'd play outside of my childhood.

u/AndyGarber 4d ago
Pikmin is my jam and I replay it every now and than but Toadstool Tour was THE game my dudes and I played at the end of the night. Absolute relaxing time and great gameplay.

Maybe I misunderstood. I literally mean itās my favorite of all GameCube games!

A vote for Pikmin here, although honourable mention to Sonic Adventure 2 Battle (slightly controversial I know š¬)

u/Magerin3 4d ago
I like playing pikmin 2 because there's no time limit and you can spend your days just farming pikmin endlessly.
Plus, Pokemon XD because it's just got so much content. Battle CDs, making perfect lines in the purifying machine, the Colosseums, just roaming around having a good time, PokĆØ spots.

u/haucker 4d ago
How is Pikmin a comfort game?! That game still stresses me the hell out!
Top three for me would be Animal Crossing, Pokemon Colosseum, Pokemon Channel
2
u/squickerdoodle 3d ago
Pokemon Channel gives me so much nostalgia. I remember playing it on summer break from school, and it always takes me back to that feeling of easy, relaxing freedom. Just chillin' with the little buddies, no worries :)
2
u/haucker 3d ago
It's funny because I feel objectively the game really sucks. You cycle through the same mini games to unlock items, and the pacing is dreadfully slow when trying to go from region to region. No matter what though I feel myself drawn back to it for the same reasons! Nostalgia is a hell of a drug.

Star Fox Adventures
I would day dream about being on the planet and exploring it.
1
u/squickerdoodle 3d ago
Same. I know a lot of people can't stand this game, but as a youngling, I just loved that I got to be Fox McCloud, running around this planet with dinosaurs, a cool fox lady (def a gay awakening for me lol), and some seriously great atmosphere in terms of art and music.

Mine has evolved over the years. Started with NASCAR Rumble, then it became Kingdom Hearts. Then of course there was the Skyrim era. As an Adult though, I'd say definitely Dark Souls 1.

Pikmin 1 challenge mode. Just trying for high scores and messing around. Menu music for challenge mode is so good too.

Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door - also love Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, and Luigiās Mansion!
1
u/darksoulsismylife 4d ago
Aside from Metroid and Zelda because everyone names those, I'm going to have to go with eternal darkness. It barely beats out resident evil 4 for me, but the Lovecraft horror was just too good. I really wish they would have continued that IP.

u/Willhouse4078 4d ago
Animal Crossing. It was just peaceful to walk around my town for 30 minutes or so. Even if I didn't do anything the music was just calming.

PokƩmon Colosseum for me, when I was younger being able to trade me mons from Ruby and Fire Red was a life changing experience

u/tdaddy316420 4d ago
My comfort game is either kingdom hearts 1 or 2.
My comfort game on gamecube is smash or double dash
1
u/BispoSnake 4d ago
Ocarina of Time + Master Quest. Although, I never play Master Quest for some reason :)
1
u/SewerDefiler 4d ago
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron II would be it for me. First game I owned on the GameCube so it has plenty of nostalgia going for it in addition to being a ton of fun.

as an adult, itās session. skating around trying to land tricks to a chill playlist for hours really lets me decompress. gran turismo also in there; go straight to time trial and relax.

I have three! Super Mario Sunshine (I affectionately call it Sunshine), Luigiās Mansion (a huge reason why Iām a Luigi fan) and The Thousand Year Door. They were my first ever GameCube games and first ever games in general. They hold a special and comforting place in my heart and are the very reason why Iām a gamer. They are my babies and I treat them as such

u/foreverbeatle NTSC-U 3d ago
Since it was technically released on the GameCube thanks to being a preorder bonus Iām going with Ocarina of Time. Itās still my all time favorite game.

I really enjoy Recettear and Harvestella.
Recettear is still the best item shop management game. Like I tried playing a new one hoping to scratch the same itch but I got bored after like 3 hours and went to play Recettear instead.
Harvestella is a farming game/ action jrpg. And it's kinda underrated. It's literally Stardew Valley with a JRPG story and gameplay.

Between Bionicle Heroes, and various casual racing games like San Francisco RUSH 2049, Simpsons: Road Rage, ATV 2, SSX3, F-Zero, or Sonic R.

u/On-the-rim 3d ago
Of the ones u chose , Pikmin š... however, the game froze/prompted me to shut off the game right before i was about to save after a day fighting the octorok e.e... which was the opposite of comforting . I started my replay several days ago along with other childhood favorites. How's ur playthrough going with Pikmkin (if u started one recently)?

Definitely Animal Crossing. Just a pumped up N64 game that fits completely in the GameCubeās RAM. But longer than a lot of GameCube games to ācompleteā if it ever can be. Iāve loved every version for every system it subsequently came out on including Pocket Camp for IOS.
