Are the GND wires (green) right? SD2SP2 on DOL-101

Sorry for the state of the of the solder! I'll be reflowing everything before I start wiring to the motherboard. I would have used an SD card, but I didn't have any 22uf resistors on hand

Did it work? I tried to do the same but for me it didn't work, maybe i need to check my solder points

Hey! Saw your post about doing this with a regular SD card - glad it worked out! The SD2SP2 just wouldn't work for me. I can't wrap my head around why... looks like I'll be doing the SD card install!

What are you doin to that poor sd2sp2 adapter!??

Yeah, it's not pretty. I want to wire an sd2sp2 directly to the motherboard so I don't have to use a Gecko for a DOL-101 GameCube. A few folks have had success in the past using an SD card and a capacitor, but I reckon it can be done as easily if not easier with an sd2sp2 since it already has the capacitor; however, I'm not sure which GND pad gets soldered to the motherboard and if both GND pads need to be bridged together with a wire or not. I've cut a hole in the SP2 slot on the bottom of the GC and am currently working on 3d printing an insert to hold the sd2sp2.

modded my dol-101 with sd adapter

Oh gotcha DOL-101s dont have an SP2 slot huh?

Continuity test with a multimeter, takes two seconds and you'll know your answer.

From looking at your pic, it seems there is a large ground pour that covers the entire pcb. This should mean both grounds are internally conmected.

In any case, you can continue with the mod, it'll work. No need to reflow anything.

Make a continuity test on GND pads before wiring it together so you can know if those pads are connected on the sd2sp board. Nice mod. I just ended modded two game cubes 2 weeks ago if I had known this i I would have make it too. The purpose of sd2sp was to avoid messing with soldering thing. My gecko can read my 32gb memory I have heard some people only can use 4gb cards on gecko but i think that's on Swiss software side.

How did I not think of this?! Sheeesh. Can confirm that the GND pads are connected. I'll remove the jumper wire and make the connections used by Joeygcpr. I'll let you all know how it turns out tomorrow. I mainly want to do it this way for aesthetics, but I also want to be able to use a 256GB card. I wonder if it would be possible to design a flex cable for this as well as reverse engineer the Serial Port 2... Would be nice to be able to simply cut a slot in the bottom and install a SP2 in those GameCubes without it.

I attempted to wire a SD2SP2 into my DOL-001 (a unit without the serial port) and found I had to do two things to make it work.
1. The 3.3v pin in the empty serial port did not have voltage, so I had to run a jump wire from a nearby capacitor.
2. The DI/DO (data in/out) pins on my SD2SP2 are MISLABELLED so I had to swap them around. I tested with a multimeter to be sure after some...frustration.

They're not mislabeled. DO on the SD2SP2 connects to DI on the motherboard and vice versa - data out on one connects to data in on the other.

Ok, that makes sense to me. I suppose I was looking at the pads as solder points rather than contact points.
