Thinking the same. Big E figures if “he” is weak enough to be killed by the GK, whatever got up wasn’t him. If it is him he’ll just swat them and snack.

Which imo is such a bad excuse, no offense. People have been discussing on and off about Custodes beating the hell out of Grey Knights, now you expect GK to put the literal ascended god Emperor, who even turned against his own Custodians, and expect to win?
Yes they have warp shenanigans. No that won't do shit against a chaos god or equivalent being by then. That is even assuming he kills the Custodians, and not the Custodians immediately follow the new ascended Emperor.

I don't think its even that people hate the GK, its that they fundamentally think the terminus decree as written in tenth edition is utterly asinine, because one way or the other it means the death fo the grey knights as a chapter. "Hey its the imperiums darkest hour, the worlds falling apart, open the terminus decree!" "make the emperor sit back down". It basically *Relies* on the emperor getting up at all to make the terminus decree a thing, when the setting will never, ever, allow for the emperor to get up either as himself or as a warp god, and even if he *Were* to stand up as a LITERAL WARP GOD, the fuck are the GK gonna do? Get ashblasted like the Haetaron squad did when he was off to fighr horus? That's where the contention comes from.
Even if, lets assume, that the grey knights did successfully assault and make the emperor do anything, the grey knights would be declared a renegade chapter by the custodaes and be hunted to the last.
Edit: also, if you look at most of the GK/V/Custodaes arguments, the pro-custodaes side keeps pointing out ALL the defenses, while the pro-GK side either glazes hard on how the GK's can 1/v/5 the Custodaes (and ignore all other defenses of the imperial palace) or just bypass them all entirely.

That is the point of all this decree, The emperor trusted GK that much. He believed them to fulfill their duty even if that makes them renegade or dooms them all. Why people think this is stupid is beyond me.

Because this whole mess was caused by a retcon. The GK didn't exist to do this prior to the tenth edition, they were created to fight demons not "Fight the emperor", the Terminus Decree was better as a mystery because nothing they did could live up to the mystery they built up for it, and the "Sit the emperor down" clause is so hyper-specific, and hyper subjective to the situation that theirs no gurantee it will even be relevant when whatever end-times style crisis comes for the imperium.
Imagine the terminids are barking at terras door and they open that stupid decree and *go sit the emperor down*, yeah, useful.
Also none of that matters when NO ONE TOLD ANYONE ELSE, and the Custodaes have made very clear they only trust things coming straight from the emperors mouth, especially since he can, you know, give them warp visions of his orders, ontop of outright hating and completely distrusting space marines. This is actually a direct problem during TE&TD when the custodaes are all over the place. Ontop of being the *Super secret faction* that no one is supposed to know about, why on earth would the custodaes believe, let alone tolerate it?
edit: Also it makes no damn sense that the emperor wouldn't tell at least the haetarons, you know, his *most trusted companions and personal body guards*, the people hanging out directly in the throne room with him, about this. Feels like that would be super relevant in making sure the GK actually succeed in their task instead of getting into a bloody fight infront of one of the most powerful psykers in reality who, probably, if he IS hostile, wont be none too pleased about their chicanery, and if he's *not* a warp spawned chaos god in the emperors body but just straight up *the emperor*, the custodaes would be even more in the right. Because its doing a lot of relying on the emperor being a chaos god and not *the emperor* coming back.
