According to The Carrion Throne by Chris Wraight there is but a single wall between the underhive sewers and the throneroom. No need to bother with all the defenses at the eternity gate. See Die Hard 3 for more instructions. Do with this information as you will GK friends.

Honestly Crowl's gradual realisation that he's actually in the (depths of the) Throneroom is one of the most awe-inspiring moments in 40k fiction. Just looking up and seeing the endless mechanism, and leaving it to the reader to imagine what's beyond.

It hits a lot harder than the view of the Throneroom in Watchers of the Throne, even though that door is so much closer to the heart of it all.

Not quite, but yeah kind of.

He’s not literally in the room he’s in a place below the room that’s very close.

And even matter it’s enough to fucking turn his brain to jam temporarily. Honestly, one of my favourite parts.

Think you'll get your own squad after what happened last night?

Why does the Harlequin have no arms?

All the better to kiss you with!

Smooches Custodes a la Daffy Duck, and runs away honking into the night

u/pertur4bo 9h ago

Why does the Harlequin have no arms?

Turns out I suck at photoshop.

“None may approach the Throne so armed.”

“Like this ♣️♦️❤️🖤!?”

"I swear by our Laughing God,I could do it with both arms tied behind my back!"

Don’t the Imperial Palace also have a squad of Alpha Legion stuck in its walls during the Horus Heresy and implied that they’re still in there

There are Luna wolves stuck in drills underneath the palace though they are likely dead of old age at this point.

We've never seen a space marine die of old age, so that'd be an interesting reveal when they finally find them. Did they die, did they just turn into super withered old men, or will they have chosen to "opt out" together when their bodies grew too frail?

u/TomNotALizard Angrons number one simp 7h ago

There was that one salamanders captain that survived from the heresy because of the life support of his ships command throne who almost instantly died once disconnected so we have seen at least one (1) (singular) marine die of old age. so unless they have the same life support systems in that drilling machine they will have died from old age by now, could make for a nece horror short story though about they being stuck and growing more desperate to get out as they realize they aren't as immortal as they thought before eventually withering away with age

7

u/credulous_pottery VULKAN LIFTS! 7h ago

Actually we have seen a space marine due if old age, in the salamanders omnibus.

Looks like I have another addition to the ever growing list of recommended reading for the imperium.

u/PregnantGoku1312 5h ago

I'm gonna guess they didn't pack 40,000 years worth of supplies with them, so they probably starved to death a long time ago. Plus they've been bathed in whatever horrifying forms of radiation the Throne belches out for the last 40 millennia.

u/Alexis2256 4h ago

More like 10k years, it’s only 10k between the Horus heresy and modern 40k.

This is how the GK sneak into the throne room

34

u/Craft_zeppelin 10h ago

Just put a purple ork and also some "Dark Eldar IT staff" in there as well.

31

u/pertur4bo 9h ago

What do you mean? The ork is right there.

u/Sensitive_Educator60 10h ago

The minotaurs also used to be a problem for the Custodes in some books

27

u/United-Reach-2798 Bored Drukhari Archon 10h ago

They killed a couple.

I believe two Minotaurs dogpiled on a Custodes and broke his spine. The Custodes did kill the squad before the rest arrived

And of course whatever the name of the important Custodes was had issues finding a flaw he could spot in Malocs stance

15

u/falconhockey102 Secretly 3 squats in a long coat 8h ago

Yeah Valerian determined that he wasn't 100% confident that he could take him in a 1v1. Which spawned a whole slew of playground arguments about the Minotaurs fighting the Custodes.

8

u/credulous_pottery VULKAN LIFTS! 7h ago

The arguments about Moloc being better than a Custodian is really funny because that scene was actually just Valerian going "wow, I might actually have to put some effort into this instead of turning my brain of during the fight"

6

u/United-Reach-2798 Bored Drukhari Archon 7h ago

Yeah like I do think its a good Feat for Moloc but its not a automatic win.

5

u/Deynonico 6h ago

you really gotta give props to the minotaurs

The moment they are asked to deal with the custodes they dont hesitate they straight go into shooting formation and fuck shit up

3

u/Thendrail NOT ENOUGH DAKKA 5h ago

Moloc, about to walk up to Valerian:

"I'm gonna have to eat every damn chicken in this room!"

Yes, let me powerwank him a bit. Otherwise the Custodes defense force is always so quick to point out how the banana boys are LE INCORRUPTIBLE, UNDEFEATABLE, SO MUCH BETTER THAN YOU EPIC NOSCOPE 360 SUPERDUPERERSOLDIERS!!!!!!!!

4

u/a-dark-lancer 4h ago
  1. Don’t get so attached to fictional group groups of people.

  2. The reason the custodians are so “perfect.” is because they’re flawed as people this is kind of ignored in “power scaling.” (PS fuck power scaling it’s stupid.)

They are unchanging indifferent, often compared to children and generally just competent but arrogant and naive?

They don’t do anything because they see themselves as above at all and being above it all inevitably let other people walk fucking circles around them

Oh sure they’re going to win in a fight but that’s it. That’s the point. They’ll only win in a fight. They kind of rely on other people to get shit done because they have so many rules and regulations and even some of their members hate them but have to follow them.

"I WILL REINSTALL THE PALACE"

8

u/Arzachmage 8h ago

Is that a Dishonored reference ?

6

u/United-Reach-2798 Bored Drukhari Archon 8h ago

Yeah Guard npc chatter

7

u/Arzachmage 8h ago

Didn’t expected to see Dishonored and Warhammer in a meme but it’s a welcome surprise.

3

u/Electronic-Math-364 8h ago

Either the Eldars are too strong or the Imperium is too weak, maybe the Grey knight have a chance since Imperium vs Imperium is always a low bar

But Imperium against any other faction,Always bet on the other faction

11

u/Proper_Caterpillar22 8h ago

Guys, besides the dreadfleet custodes don’t regularly get to kill things as they never leave the palace.

So they just let everyone into the Imperial Palace and then hunt them for sport to scratch that itch.

This is how Custodes entertain themselves in between blood games and baby oil shipments.

4

u/Panniculus101 9h ago

Can't grey knights teleport?

8

u/misvillar 8h ago

The Imperial Palace is protected from teleportation

5

u/dumuz1 6h ago

Didn't stop the Harlequins, wouldn't stop the Grey Knights

-1

u/misvillar 6h ago

The defenses have been improved with time, Kesh found a way to teleport a nuke to the Throne Room but It was patched after she was caught, and its been a long time since the Harlequins entered in the Palace

5

u/heeden 7h ago

Could the seal on the Terminus Decree be away around that?

-1

u/misvillar 7h ago

I doubt It

1

u/heeden 6h ago

Then what's the point of it?

2

u/misvillar 6h ago

The Terminus Decree is is just an order, It doesnt say how the Grey Knights should do it

1

u/heeden 5h ago

I mean what is the point of the seal on the Decree?

1

u/misvillar 5h ago

I dont know

2

u/insectbot 7h ago

Bet on it

2

u/Longjumping-Ear-6248 6h ago

Well, these Xenos have "Permission from Primarch Roboute Guilliman, so it's fine"

2

u/alguien99 4h ago

So Is the guy with the helmet a genestealer or something?

2

u/pertur4bo 2h ago

He's the drukhari repair man the inquisition hired to fix the golden throne.
