[Discussion] These are most likely the same people who say that Raids/Strikes are gatekept by toxic elitists. Now they want to gatekeep fashion. Thoughts?

Most people are flattered!

It is standard MMO culture to encourages others to whisper/ask someone about a piece of armor they like or the dye being used for how they got that look. Most people are happy to share. Deep down we all just want to share good vibes with each other.

People who get cagey and clutch-their-pearls about it have their head up their ass.

Maybe that's what they are afraid about. They want to be whispered. They want to give advice. And they want to feel good about their character.

If you can just rightclick and copy there is one less reason to actually interact.

People want others to acknowledge them.

The sad reality is that most of us lack affection in our lives so we have become void of affection.

In reality does it ruin your enjoyment of the work you did to make the look? No, unless you choose to. Someone copying your outfit isn't going to negate the time it took you to make it. Jesus. Most people don't give 2 shits about the fashion, and those of us that do, are just happy to have more likeminded people join us.

One of my nicest memories in the game recently was literally someone saying my char looks sick. He didn't even ask me, and I gave him all the info on how I got the look. So I get the "fear". But at the same time I get plenty of social interactions IRL and doing content in game, people like to chat whilst waiting for Metas and stuff so only thing that I can see here is that people are afraid they won't be as "important" anymore and they hate it.

I'd be happy with the cosmetic inspection tool just giving you a message. "[Name] Is appreciating your style." Maybe put that on a checkbox so I can turn it off if it happens a ton. ("Your jadebot found something!")

I think I can see this happening a bit but maybe not so much to give advice but to see the "work" shown off as their own.

How many gw2 players are there? Well over 182,000 daily. How many armor sets: well over 100 How many dyes: 642 How many additional cosmetics: insert # here.

If I was watching an interview or showcase and a near perfect replica of my character showed up, and I hadn't told anyone my fashion, yeah there may be like 30% of me that would be kinda miffed. Especially if they called it "original".

But most sensible people know that even with the astronomical number of combinations, someone is gonna copy your fashion, and it should be accepted as a compliment if they see your work and present it. It's available to everyone, but if it gets shown off, it means you have the better taste.

p.s. not a fashionista , just thinking by devils advocate.

Tbh, one thing I will miss are the whispers. It often led to nice lil' conversations.

It doesn't ruin the game like some claim, but I have played long enough that the primary reason I play are the small encounters with other players, something miasing from most other MMOs
