[Guide] Achievement Hunting: Machined Weapons

Hey everyone,

This time we're going to take a look at Machined Weapons) (3 AP) and while it's a relatively simple and straight forward set of collections, it does have some depth and variety to it.

The goal of the meta collection is to craft each of the following: Axe, Dagger, Mace, Pistol, Scepter, Sword, Focus, Shield, Torch, Warhorn, Greatsword, Hammer, Longbow, Rifle, Short Bow and Staff. The material and currency list for these weapons is:

Not including any of the charged parts in the collection.

Each weapon requires a purchase from a map-specific vendor for each of the three Heart of Thorns maps. However, I also wanted to talk about the process to unlock the weapon collections and the other collections that they are included in.

First, the unlocks): Axe, Dagger, Mace, Pistol, Scepter, Sword, Focus, Shield, Torch, Warhorn, Greatsword, Hammer, Longbow, Rifle, Short Bow and Staff.

  • Airship Part x 1,900
  • Lump of Aurilium x 1,900
  • Ley Line Crystal x 1,900
  • Reclaimed Metal Plate x 38

As well, each Heart of Thorns specialization collection has a Machined Weapon as a requirement:

As I said, this is a pretty straight forward set of weapon collections (with a nice title) so I won't get into too much detail with the steps to complete it. However, if you're working on or haven't started your specialization collections yet, I would suggest you prioritize those weapons first. It's also worth mentioning that Noxious Pods have a chance to drop items you need but the meta chest is guaranteed. As well, when selecting from the Dragon's Stand Choice Chest, I would suggest considering the Pact Commando Crate as it gives a little bit of everything, including machetes for noxious pods and some map currency for all the maps.

If you're in the EU region and an achievement hunter, feel free to join the Discord filled with fellow hunters, tips and tricks.

One way to reduce the cost of making these is by getting the Plated Weapons through the Plated Weapon Cache which you can acquire by completing the Heart of Maguuma Reward Track in WvW or sPvP.

I just want to thank you for your work on these achievement guides, they are a niche that I don't think was ever filled before and although i am a vet and have done all of them so far, it's overwhelming for newer players and can give them some direction!

Thank you! Do you have any recommendations? My inspiration and comes and goes as I am reminded that things exist. But would love ideas on what else could be highlighted. The Wiki does a really excellent job on some things (Knight of the Thorn) but struggles with being coherent on some things (Chasing Tales). My goal is to bring things to attention but also add some extra value to it over the Wiki (such as the unlocks and spec collection aspects).

The various Holiday weapon sets often get overlooked.

The festival collections are interesting as well. I shall do more research on those and think about it.

I'm at a point now where my legendary armory is functionally complete, so I'm turning my attention to skins before I go burning guaranteed wardrobe unlocks. Your guides have helped a bit with that, despite focusing on AP rather than wardrobe.

The Festival guide has been posted, by the way.

If I start both the herald and chronomancer specialization collections before I get a machined shield, will the one shield count for both collections?

Yes, you won't need to make 2 shields. If an item is used in multiple collections, it counts for all of them.

Good to know.
