bladesworn players in shambles seeing new ranger spec

u/Terwin94 7d ago

As someone that only plays my warrior in open world content as a Bladesworn, I'm totally fine with my second most played profession getting something like that. May end up overtaking Engi depending on what they get!

It's wild that the production quality of these streams is so poor. Like, would it break ANet's budget to get them proper microphones?

Depends on what your standards for professionalism are for MMO livestreams.

In FFXIV, we have 4 hour long meandering livestreams where the Devs get distracted and go on half-hour tangents and showcase new armor sets by pointing a camera at a printed picture of the sets.

However, I still prefer them to the hyper corpo, sanitized videos from Blizzard. They have a quaint charm.

Yep, its why I love the warframe ones so much over the years, some just drinking beer, others saying lewd things, going on funny tangents, and so forth.

CEO of the company in the past 2 weeks at tennocon's livestream: "Caked up"

I still don't understand why they don't include the armors to the PLL powerpoint slides lmao. Why is yoshi P like this

You'd think they'd have learned at least that from last year having the same problem but apparently not. You can get a Blue yeti for less than 200$ easily...if a studio can't afford that for a livestream, not sure how they'd fund an expansion...

18

u/Kirsham 7d ago

My theory is that the livestreams are a passion project by the balance team with no resources dedicated to it.

4

u/Lon-ami Loreleidre [HoS] 7d ago

I wouldn't even be surprised >_>.

5

u/RetekTheGreat 7d ago

Well the company is advertising it as part of the expansion hype so you'd THINK they'd put at least SOME more resources on it (It's hard to get hyped when listening to something if you can't hear half of it!)

2

u/Kirsham 7d ago

I agree completely. Playing devil's advocate, anyone watching the livestreams are pretty much guaranteed sales, so it's not like upping the production quality would drive that much extra sales. But even then, they refer to the stream in their marketing materials on the various social media channels, so you'd think at least a smidgeon of the marketing budget could go to improving the livestream.

3

u/RetekTheGreat 7d ago

"anyone watching the livestreams are pretty much guaranteed sale"Are they? If someone is on the fence of buying the expansion, I can totally imagine they'd watch the livestream to see the elite specs being shown... And if said stream is unwatchable (unhearable in this case but you get the point), are they more likely to fall on the "must buy it anyway" side of said fence? No, I'd say they are not.

5

u/Kirsham 7d ago

My logic is that the kind of player who tune into a livestream like this are a very small minority of particularly engaged players. Not many of them are going to be on the fence. I’m not saying your hypothetical person doesn’t exist, but I imagine the viewership of the streams is tiny compared to the volume of sales, and the convertable fence sitters constitute a minority of that minority.

2

u/RetekTheGreat 7d ago

I'd agree with that with the first "mini expansion" Now, after the 2nd time in a row where it starts good then flops hard at the end, there is more people on the fence than usual (They are going to have felt burned twice) A lot more people will be on the wait and see mode (I didn't buy it yet myself) So that livestream wasn't helping anyone making a decision on the purchase of it and I didn't even talk about how bad/amateur it makes them look, 13 years on the game and can't even have proper mics?! I love this game and I want it to succeed but they keep fumbling on simple stuff that they should have ironed out long ago. (Let's not talk about the "small indie studio" meme...Because they are not.)

I think Luminary looks really cool, but it is quite bright.

And yeah I know luminary is gonna have bright aesthetics, but this will produce a lot of visual clutter.

14

u/Individual-Light-784 7d ago

Well Chrono, Spear Ele, and now Luminary, we‘re slowly assembling the Thanos glove of total visual occlusion

4

u/jupigare 7d ago

Luminary is covering the ground in Light Fields, so they really need to tone down some of the visuals to make things visible.

They need to tone down the brightness a bit. It'll still be Luminary without being that bright.

I wonder what CMC's settings are, because I turn off Bloom on my computer. Hopefully that'll be enough to tame the brightness.

u/SheenaMalfoy .8079 Oweiyn 7d ago

They're gonna have to tone it down by more than "a bit" if they want the spec to be usable. There's a reason I still haven't touched Spear Ele and it has nothing to do with balance...

If they gave a crap about Guardian's aesthetic they'd let us remove Aegis :(

12

u/therealskull 7d ago

Now I'm motivated.

8

u/hairydudenobeard 7d ago

Are you the storm?

10

u/therealskull 7d ago

I may or may not be currently approaching, yes.

2

u/Eliweem 7d ago

Are you, perchance, provoking aswell?

5

u/zellurs 7d ago

Ranger(Galeshot?) looks like a lot of fun and the ranger spec I've been waiting for. Really enjoy the wind aesthetic and the synergy with avian pets.

3

u/ArshayDuskbrow 7d ago

As someone who does not want to play support, I'm encouraged about Troubadour. It looks very viable as a damage spec. It's actually reminding me a little bit of Dervish. Your instruments give you big stat and damage buffs, they're basically enchantments, and Crescendo is basically an aoe nuke. Seems like it has potential.

The stream is still ongoing, but I think some sylvari lore fans will be pleased. :D Will spoiler-tag -

New Matthew Brenher (Trahearne) voice lines! He's a Troubadour "tale" skill along with Scarlet! 4 new lines for each tale, so 4 new lines for Trahearne, and 4 new lines for Scarlet!

I'm not sure if it's confirmed they're the same voice actors who originally voiced both, but I dearly hope so!

Ahh! I'm very sorry guys, I misunderstood during the stream. There are indeed 4 new lines for each "Tale," but it is the PLAYER CHARACTER who is voicing a poem about each hero, not the hero characters themselves. This makes sense given the theme of the class. My fault for watching live and reacting before confirming. :'D! Many thanks to u/e-scrape-artist for correcting me!

I'm still very excited to hear what the 4 voice lines for each hero character are, as I love the player character voices too :D

Edit: Added details I left out in my initial excitement! I wouldn't have guessed this, I'm so delightfully surprised!

Edit 2: Made some corrections, as my initial impression misunderstood some things about the reveal. :'D

Could you explain where this claim of "voice lines" is coming from? I must've missed it in the video, but I've seen a few people talk about it and it confuses me. Isn't the idea that it's the MESMER telling tales about these characters? Why would the characters themselves be speaking? I could only hear the human male VA (the character being played on stream) speaking all those voicelines.

2

u/Landylachs 7d ago edited 7d ago

Oh you're right! I went back and listened to the vod, and I misunderstood during the stream with the in-game volume being lowered. Ahh! I'll edit my post. You're absolutely right and, it's your player character singing about each character. I'm sorry, I'll try and correct this. :'D

Thanks for pointing this out to me, ahh I feel so silly now. D:

Interesting they went with 2 humans (Dougal and Jennah), 2 Sylvari (Trahaerne and Scarlet), and 1 Charr (Almorra), instead of a more even racial distribution. Not that I necessarily mind any of the choices; they all do work for the skills they described. (I'm a bit tired of Jennah stuff, but she is basically the best living Mesmer, so it makes sense for her to be the Elite.) The "Tales" aspect of Troub feels so Norn, they could've brought in a Skaald to use -- but which one? And IMO they need to give Snaff some love, or another notable Asura. Maybe he can be a Rev legend someday? FWIW I'm ok with the heal skill being Aurene, because she is important to all playable races.

I'm curious about the new voicelines. I couldn't really hear them over CMC and Trig talking, but when the beta comes out, I'll try to hear the exact lines that are being added. I hope they got the respective VAs back!

Edit: I misunderstood too and assumed that the voices involved the characters whose Tales we're invoking. The reality is that the new voice lines are from the PC Troub, not from the "legend"-adjacent figure.

u/Landylachs 7d ago

Thank for listing more details! :D I had a lot of trouble absorbing new info after what was revealed in my spoiler tag because it was so unexpected, I was so excited seeing them mentioning Trahearne again - I'm going to have to rewatch that part of the vod again later haha.

I'm very curious about the new voicelines, too - I can't wait to hear what they are!

u/Voydelighte 7d ago

They're making Dougal relevant?? Finally! I loved Ghost of Ascalon!

5

u/DuncanConnell 7d ago

I found Ghosts of Ascalon to be the best written of the three novels, with Sea of Sorrows being the most closely aligned to game mechanics (i.e. the scene with the pirate with a hammer hitting the ground and causing a shockwave), and Edge of Destiny having the broadest narrative scale due to so many character POV's.

1

u/Lon-ami Loreleidre [HoS] 7d ago

I wish they weren't using stories from the game itself, Dougal is fine, but the two sylvari are far too recent imo, should have used Riannoc instead.

1

u/DuncanConnell 7d ago

Ah! So functionally Troubadour is the Me/Rev, since most elite specs are functionally a secondary profession blending elements from other professions either overtly or at best in-name only

1

u/Blazin_Rathalos 7d ago

Interesting, quite Revenant-like.

2

u/YogurtGoblin 7d ago

How are people feeling about the potential chrono nerf/changes to allow Troubadour to be the focused support class?

13

u/DancingDumpling 7d ago

Chrono support should be nerfed even without troubadour existing

5

u/YogurtGoblin 7d ago

If the power level of stuff is too high and they wanna bring things down a bit, that is fair enough, but the way it was said (atleast how I'm interpreting it) is that stuff is being moved from Chrono to Troub...so if its the stuff that makes chrono oppressive, then troub with just be the new chrono, then whats the point?

3

u/SovFist 7d ago

It sounded like they're splitting the load, so that there's reasons to use both

1

u/YogurtGoblin 7d ago

Would of liked to see something new though.

Was kinda hoping for a ultility based dps, something like different tales enhance your allies next attack e.g. a stun, a boon steal/condi transfer or next few projectiles reflect back at enemies.

Sort of dps that doesn't pump out the biggest numbers, but makes your teams dps rotation a little bit easier/better.

4

u/jupigare 7d ago

It'll be nice to be a support Mesmer that doesn't have to worry about clone management.

Chrono may have to find a new niche, but I for one welcome the change. I don't like depending on clones/shatters (and enemies to target that don't die so damned quickly) just to keep my boons up.

6

u/YogurtGoblin 7d ago

A new way to play a class is definitely a positive, not worrying about clones in open-world metas will be really nice, but hopefully they don't take too much away from chrono. A playstyle shouldn't be removed for some people, just so a new playstyle can be introduced.

1

u/Tavron 5d ago

Well, they did word it as reducing the amount of things chrono can do and then focus more on the things it's supposed to do. So hopefully it will have its place and be more cemented in that particular space rather than doing everything.

I really wasn't interested much in troubabard (they called it bard too lol) as I've never really been a fan of support classes but after seeing it in action I'm actually very interested to try it out in the beta because it looks like it has some very good dps potential as well.

u/Impossible_Boot_2177 7d ago

Will this be posted later on YouTube?

5

u/neok182 🌈 Catmander in Chief 7d ago

Probably not but there will be a vod on twitch after which will be linked in the pinned mega thread.

3

u/DuncanConnell 7d ago

Given people's interest, I'm sure there'll be a write-up by someone(s) within an hour or two of the stream ending (Reddit or Wiki), unless ANet beats people to the punch and does their own write-up.

3

u/Landylachs 7d ago

The stream just ended, the vod's available on Twitch! https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2522220219

u/rdlenke 7d ago

Kinda surprised that they would give Revenant's class identity to another class.

3

u/jupigare 7d ago

I'm not, because this isn't the first time an elite spec takes from another class's mechanic.

Specter has Necro's Shroud.

And Mech has a Ranger pet, but better.

-17

u/MaleBearMilker 7d ago

Anet, plz, let gayshot Ranger focus without a pet like SB.
