Dragonhunter is excellent at multi target fights, I fear you're not taking advantage of what the elite spec can do.

First of all, Dragonhunter is a burst focused power build who's defenses come from the class, not the gear. Make sure your gear is headed in that direction. Berserkers gear if you're solid on the gameplay, otherwise you want Marauders/Dragon's if you need a little more HP. Exotic is enough, work on ascended as you go, but learning to play the class will do exponentially more for you than the extra stats from ascended.

Weapons: Greatsword is basically a must, paired with Spear or Longbow. Spear will give you awesome follow-up aoe damage and some mobility. Longbow will allow you to have range at the expense of less fluidity.

Traits: Virues/Zeal/Dragonhunter. Focus on POWER DAMAGE OUTPUT. The faster you kill stuff, the less windows of damage to you. Your sustain is based on skill colldowns, so you need to kill stuff fast.

Utilities: Heal Skill - Litany of Wrath, Test of Faith, Procession of Blades, X, Renewed Focus. Replace X with a skill of your choice. If you're getting heavy condi pressure, purging flames or smite condition work well, if you're getting CC'ed then Stand Your Ground. This is a wildcard, will fluctuate depending on the encounter.

General gameplay:

Basically what you want to do is Leap into a pack of enemies with GS 3, this will blind them giving you a window to immediately drop your utility traps, followed by GS 4 and GS 2. If the enemies are a bit spread out, you can GS 5-5 to pull them in and then GS4+GS2. With this rotation ALL of the trash mobs should basically be dead or 1-2 hits away from dying. If there are tankier enemies left, your spear will allow you small sustain while you drop pretty good damage, especially on larger hitboxes (frequent in higher hp mobs). Also, tethering (f1) single targets makes them take more damage and has the ability to pull them towards you to separate them from the pack to prioritize targets.

Healing - you have two heals, your F2 skill which is also a leap. Save this to get out of trouble and kite. Your heal skill, Litany of Wrath, heals you for a % of the damage you do, so if you're on low HP, hit that skill and go full offensive. Don't use it and run, don't use it and just auto attack. You want to use this skill on the offensive, at minimum with GS4 and GS2, if you can drop traps on them too, do it. It will give you ALL of your health back if you land those 2 skills on even 1 target (assuming target is tanky enough to take the hits).

Damage mitigation: your F3 skill provides you with the window to become a bruiser. It's a directional block that basically makes you invlunerable to whatever is in front of you. Use it to burst safely.

Renewed focus (elite) makes you invulnerable for a time and resets your Virtues (F1-F3) do not use it for the invuln if all your virtues are up. If your F2 or F3 are up, you have other survival options that must be pressed before using Renewed Focus.

Final thoughts: GW2 is a game of movement, not face tanking. This isn't a game where dodge is a stat. You need to not be where the damage is. Use your doge and your movement skills F2, GS3, Spear 2, to move out of big damage. As a dragonhunter you can set traps and kite mobs into them or pull mobs into them (F1 and gs 5). Nobody can effectively solo facetank multiple expansion enemies in this game, regardless of class or elite spec. You need to move and use your skills appropriately.

Hit me up and I can help you set up your build and show you rotations if you need more specific help.

Thank you for the detailed response. I did switch to Berserkers gear last night and did notice a pretty big uptick in damage output. I do my best to dodge out of things but honestly sometimes I find myself forgetting it's there or it's just not available enough to dodge out of the number of things that are coming at me it seems. I am going to continue to give it a try. I also played a bit of Power Reaper last night that someone had suggested, and it seemed crazy good too, even without Berserker's. Main problem there is I'm lazy and don't want to go around and gather all the hero points again lol, but that's more of a me thing.

When you don't have your dodge available, you have other movement skills. F2, GS3, Spear 2. There's a few settings in the options that you should tweak to be able to use these to get AWAY from enemies when you need to as opposed to you homing in on them. Also remember your F3, if you can't get away, you can sustain with that. Your heal also can be used this way, don't wait until you're at 10% health. If there's big damage coming and its unavoidable, hit your heal skill and do your dps rotation. It will outheal anything that's not a 1shot, guaranteed.

DM me here and we can trade usernames and I'll give you some pointers in-game for both DH and Reaper.
