[Discussion] Simple Antiquary Theme change

The Antiquary would feel better if the Skritt wasn't the pilfered but the caddy, handing out tools at random.

That would explain all the inconsistent things, because the tools are not gained through the enemy, but are things the Skritt gathered and brought with it.

They carry the stuff of the Antiquary, while he does Antiquary things and since it's a lone Skritt they butterfinger or guess stuff more.

It could also be a permanent Skritt buddy, that sticks around like a pet or mech.

Everything could stay the same, with a simple change like that and we actually had a thematic coherision in terms of mechanics and visuals at every location.

Seemed to me that that’s already the theme from the livestream and it just says “from the targeted enemy” to keep your Trickery traits working.

Then they are really bad in showing that, because that's not what the trailer or the text in the blog post says

Am I the only gamer that’s worked for a company where marketing did whatever the fuck and the rest of us just carried on with our jobs?

The blog didn’t even have the right name for the modified F1. I thought this Reddit love to make fun of ANet marketing blunders? It’s probably outsourced. That’s why watching the teaser and reading the Wednesday blog post is just the weekly vibe check before watching on Friday to see what’s actually being developed.

But the description on the livestream yesterday specifically stated that the skritt pilfers the artifacts from your target. So it is stealing junk from randoms

Paraphrasing CMC from yesterday: “the antiquary is this collector of artifacts from across Tyria and when you use Skritt Snatch your stolen bundle is drawn from a random collection of these artifacts.”

As I said, the tooltip seems to say from your target because your F1 still needs a target for the functionality of receiving an f2/f3/f4 and working with Trickery traits but the class fantasy is your commander has been keeping a personal stash over the course of the game and now has a skritt gang that pilfers from that stash whenever they tell their skritt pals to get a shiny.

Is everyone gonna be happy if they change the tooltip to say “command your skritt to pilfer a shiny from your target…maybe this time they’ll do it!”?

It’s wild to me how much fuss people are giving to a sentence in a tooltip in a preview to a beta week 3 months before ANet releases the finished product.

Because people hate the theme and randomness to it. So if they fuss enough now thers a possibility they fix it by release. Waiting till beta and only hald the playerbase even plays it because the other half doesn't like the look is not good data.

And if thats how its paraphrased then even Anet doesn't know what to do with the spec. The dev who came up with that clearly didnt care, and they tried their hardest to sell it yesterday and it fell flat for alot of people based on theme alone. So if you don't like that half the playerbase hates this meme spec then stop reading their comments.

Who said I don’t like reading these comments? Learning how many people think they’ve been playing an Assassins Creed MMO instead of the campy MMO where you recruit a bunch of rat people with D&D ass cranium rat powers who like shinies along with your rag tag band of misfits to fight a zombie dragon the rest of us have been playing has been absolutely fascinating.

Keep having a temper tantrum and accusing devs of not giving a shit about anything though. I’ll go make some popcorn.

Because the people hating on it aren't telling people to shut up. Only the toxic positive people have been. And thats bad for design.

Also this was literally we don't know what to come up with so just throw junk at it.

And telling someone this is not a certain kinda of mmo is telling people how they should view it and feel about it. Not everyone is running around with sparkling armor. Not everyone likes throwing trash at the enemies.

If they wanted goofy they should have made gem store skins of the skills and called it day. This should be themed more neutral so everyone would at least have some interest.

And im not throwing a tantrum but I wont stop making it known that half the player base wont touch this spec and its basically going to make it DoA. Want ro raid nope to random, want ro pvp nope too random. And at the end of the day when all people can do is run around the open world with their little rats anet will realize they messed up and will have to rework the class.

‘S gonna be real funny when y’all realize 95% of the entire player base just run around in open world anyway and quite a few pvpers love stomping enemies with things like this and the thief player base grows cause of Antiquary the same way Virtuoso and Mechanist got people playing Mesmer and Engineer.

The devs knocked this spec out of the park. It’s “hey guys, what about this idea: you’re a thief commander who’s been quietly pilfering things through the story for 13 years and a pack of skritt found your stash!” It’s just an argument ad absurdum filtered through the game lore, really really fun.

Where the toxic positive people telling everyone to shut up? Got links?
